Ookay, onto the second arc, featuring 'Brave Men's Road'.

Super duper awesome episode(excuse the outdated terms), the harmony of the music and the visuals,and the overall execution were beyond my expectation. Especially loved how they expressed the part where the rich bastards were screaming to push each other. ..se! ..se! OSE!! ..and Kaiji's eyes filling up with manly tears ;_;

As shown, this part of the arc is more focused on human psychology/Fukumoto philosophy than gambling strategies. For me I love and appreciate both views(the drama and the strategy); any other thoughts?

Extremely intense. This series hasn't cooled down even right from the get-go, true excellence.

Pure awesomeness. Love how they portray the dark side of human nature. And the bg music is great. Amplifies the situations much.

But only 13 eps? Noooo I need moar Kaiji. T_T

Yeah, great episodes, but where's the 13 coming from?

That only gives us two to go...

And they all should've taken off their shoes.

Exactly, WTF??!
Awesome episode. And what a cliffhanger...as in Akagi at its BEST.

ANN says there's 13 episode,so someone probably got it from there, however ANN isn't always right, for exemple it says there's 13 episodes of shugo chara but many people are sure there's at least 26 episodes, maybe even 52.
i was told for shugo chara:"ANN says 13 because their database seems to require a number of episodes. Once episode 14 airs, it'll probably switch to 26."

Maybe it's the samewith kaiji

On the Madhouse website, Kaiji is supposed to be 26 episodes. I reject ANN's reality, and subsitute it with my own Madhouse's.

Anyway, this episode was unbelieveable. The intensity, visuals and style of the game was just pure win. Next episode preview looks very exciting too. Is Sahara going to win?!

That was really intense to watch, such a cruel inhuman game. I love the look into the dark sides of human psyche. I loved that in Akagi as well. Ahh, and I feel sorry for our Kaiji. ;_;

I think the next episode preview might have given away too much (did Sahara win?), but we'll see.

According to the official anime website, the soundtrack will be released January 23. I will definitely get this one. Hopefully this will include full versions of the opening and ending songs.

I agree with everybody who is talking about the amazing use of the BGM in this show. Not only is the music fantastic and moody, but they always seem to use it in exact the right moments.

Anyway, this episode was intense and while this newest gamble obviously doesn't have the strategy of restricted rock, paper, and scissors; it is just as intense for obvious reasons.

Also, if you go to animesuki.com the show is listed as being 26 episodes. I certainly hope that is the case as 13 just isn't enough Kaiji!!!!! lol

Kaiji is growing more psychological that i would ever imagine. Its freaking great! Yes i can risk to admit we have a spiritual sequel to Akagi. Simply rocks and cliffhangers are heart breaking.

Triad is On fire!

Now onto the episode. The BGM the flow of the game, the way they are transported to the game, they way it starts and sorts its simply perfect! I was :O when they said what the game was. At first when they were in the coffins i thought it would be something like The Cube (check imdb if you dont know what am i talking about). The game is simply cold-hearted...

Freaking awesome episode! I love the music in this series!
And Triad MORE then made up for their slowness of episode 9 ^^

This really showed what a bunch of corrupt beings humans can be. Using people as pieces in a game. I'm really curious about the masterminds behind all this.

I too hope that Kaiji is longer than 13 episodes.

I am liking this series more and more. Go Kaiji!

BTW when they are opening the container, I thought it is going to be 80 floor or higher on the building. If that's the case, I might really shout WTF out loud. But I guess 8/10 meters are more than enough to them. Not dead but cripple , damn the mastermind.

I love the different dynamics that this show presents to you. In the first arc it pit Kaiji against all the other debtors, so we grew to hate guys like Funai. However this arc makes me realize that all of these guys, yes even Funai, are just like Kaiji and are just trying to get themselves out of the dumps. You realize that somebody like Funai isn't such a jerk and was just doing what he had to do to get out of this hell..............I still hate Andou though!!!!

This show really delves deep into the darkness of the human personality due to the characters being put into situations where they are basically forced to bring out the worst in themselves.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and I have to point out the scene where Kaiji was being transported to the game in the coffin. This was one of the most tense scenes I have experienced in some time as I could feel the pure fear that Kaiji felt just pouring through the computer monitor that I was watching it on. The fact that they only showed inside the coffin and nothing outside of it made the scene just as tense for the viewer as it was for Kaiji. We had no idea where they were taking him. It was such a well done scene.

Personally, I liked the way that the beams narrowed as it got farther along. Seemed metaphorical for the pressure of the Espoir-group gambles as a whole; it seems easy until you start playing, and then the traps come along. The danger here is definately more grisly than the other room, though.

I would've taken off my shoes and thrown it 1. at the guy in front of me or 2. those a**holes at the bottom laughing when someone falls. Great start to a new arc. Agree with Kaiji, don't even bother saying sorry if you're just gonna push them anyway.

Wouldn't Kaiji also be considered a repeater now though since he is doing another gambling game? I'm pretty sure Funai isn't much better off than Kaiji if he was on the boat to begin with.

I gotta say, this is the episode that made me think that Kaiji could potentially be a better anime series than Akagi. I mean, Akagi was awesome, but no episode of Akagi made me sit on the edge of my seat as much as this episode of Kaiji did. You can actually sympathize with Kaiji's dilemma, whereas Akagi was in a league of his own and you could never see yourself in his shoes. I can't wait to watch the next episode to see if Kaiji decides to push his opponents or if he finds another way to survive.

Funai was a repeater on the boat because he had done the restricted rock, paper scissors game before, i.e he knew what game they would be playing before he got on (whereas the others, like kaiji weren't told what gamble it was, placing them at a disadvantage).

Kaiji is gambling again, but he isn't a repeater because he didn't know what type of gamble they would be doing (i.e even though he went on the boat he has no great advantage over the others)

If you think that's bad, you haven't seen Akagi, another series by the same author. That one has a pretty twisted game at the end of the series, too.
