This is actually very bad for fansubs too, for so long fansubs have been skirting being legal or not, now someone has jumped in and actually stole unreleased materials, and Toei is pissed. Toei is going to start going after these people now, I think fansubs might come to an end because of this, or at least some will end up in prison. And we still won't get legal streams, it is very wrong that one person might have begun the end of anime. My anime list My claimed anime My claimed character |

Sure Toei may go after some people, but it won't dent the fansub community in the slightest. |

This is the straw that broke the camels back, once they go after one they will go after all, there will be a huge test case and if it goes the way of the companies expect the fansubbers to back off, because they don't really care about the fans, otherwise there wouldn't be multiple groups doing one show, there wouldn't be fansub groups that just steal the Crunchyroll subs and bloom them, for the fans died when dattebayo got popular. I'll believe it when it happens. RIAA and MPAA etc haven't made a dent in piracy and digital sharing in the US or anywhere else, why do you think fansubs will suddenly die because of one leaked episode which is actually entirely Funimation's fault for breaching their security contract? |

If you're expecting me to argue that it's not Funimation's fault for not taking better secure measures then I'm really sorry to disappoint you. Fact still is that someone still bothered to leak it and now the simulcast for One Piece is over. As far as I know, from more recent news, they seem to be taking measures to hopefully secure their videos more. Toei probably isn't going to start going out and attacking fansubbers and if they do it will probably have little effect on them as a whole. Honestly, I think the only thing Toei is doing at the moment is reconsidering simulcasting or perhaps a better way of doing it. Modified by Capellabun, 05-31-09, 10:01 AM |

Stimulcasts are getting popular and since it was happening to One Piece I was happy for it thinking this'll make Funimation dub the rest of the show (even though I don't watch it). There'll always be fansubs at least. We all know if a fansub goes down there will always be another one. |

This is friggin hillarious. According to some sources on the web, so-called security of the videos on the Funimation website was non-existant for the long time. Instead of taking the blame and firing the admin responsible they take it out on 'omg we're hax000red 11one!!elefven'. It clearly shows how the media people in the U.S. react. When some time ago quite a few minutes of unaired Code Geass R2 episode was leaked they quickly deleted the vid from YT and apologized to the community. And of course staff responsible for the screwup was somehow affected. The crime here is to distribute the unaired episode and not downloading an unsecured file. Admin must be someone's grandparent with knowledge of Solitaire if (s)he can't even set appropriate CHMOD to protect file from accessing by unauthorized people. It upsets me a lot TV is removing what little anime it already showed in favour of streaming. Streaming is not a real solution. >.< And I'm giving the industry less of my money than I used to due to their recent retardation and the treatment of real fans in areas such as this. You know what the sad thing about morons like you is, companies bend over backwards for you and no matter what you will always tell them to "piss off." Well you wanna starve all the people on your favs list be my guest, just don't go crying if the industry collapses. Yeah probably won't happen, but if it does, you have no one to blame but your cheap old self. Oh but that's right, you won't blame your self you'll keep blaming the industry. Makes me wonder why you people call your selves fans. --------------------------------- Meeting someone is God's doing, but parting is what humans do themselves. |

Makes me wonder why you people call your selves fans. I rarely say this, but... LOL. I've spent a great deal of money on anime. Probably more than anybody else on this site given I only spend on anime, not manga, figures, posters and other collectables (in which case some others may have spent more). And I've spent over $20,000. I own the majority of my list and will buy all of my 8+ series as they become available. By my spending less, I simply mean that I don't buy lesser series anymore. I used to buy anything I'd rate five or higher. And I own most of my non-H <5s, too, for that matter (Girls Bravo, HackSign, Gasaraki, Spriggain, Eva, Macross II, SOEX) as most were gifts, though I bought Eva for collection's sake despite the fact I personally dislike it, it's good to lend to others as a staple must-see. Also I own Lain, the only thing on my dropped list, as I bought the box set on recommendation but just couldn't finish it as it was too shithouse. So yeah, lol@u. |

I said this in FUNimation's blog and I'll say it here and I'll have nothing more to do with this thread afterward. Just because there was a hole present in FUNimation's security does not justify the fact that it was abused. Presence does not justify abuse, plain and simple. Just as much blame lies with the assfuck that leaked it as with FUNimation's security, if not more. Now I bid thee good day, you filthy morons. |

The person was an idiot for doing that anyway. The fansubs were still going to be made regardless if they hadn't taken it and uploaded it. Why is Funimation the only one bitching? Crunchyroll has already had their shit taken and uploaded before too. |

I think because this is a bit more severe, I don't believe Crunchyroll has had the issue with their anime being taken and put online before being aired in Japan. Funimation is probably upset (though they are partly to blame for the lack of security) because it's ended a possibly great deal for them with Toei. Toei probably isn't any better since they canceled it (not Funimation). |

The multicast was available only to US and Canada people, but the leaked episode was available to everyone, so I'm thankful to whoever leaked the episode. |

lostcause said: Funimation just posted this on US One Piece website: As anime fans know, FUNimation Entertainment and Toei Animation had planned for the first ever online simulcast of the series ‘One Piece’ tonight at 9:00 pm CDT., just one hour after its premiere on Japan’s Fuji Television. Unfortunately, in the last 24 hours we have determined that the FUNimation servers were compromised, even though we employ strict security standards. An unknown individual accessed and posted episode 403 online and as a direct result of this illegal act, all U.S. and Canadian fans will be deprived of access to this great anime series for the immediate future. We will make every effort to locate and prosecute the perpetrator(s)to the fullest extent of the law and will provide updates regarding this most serious matter I had to laugh. Seriously. 耳を塞いでも両手をすり抜ける真実に惑うよ。 |
