State_Of_Despair said: It doesn't matter. Every mangaka has their own unique way of drawing. I like the artwork of Mushi-Shi, and One Piece the most. Yeah it really doesn't. It's really whatever floats your boat ya know. I don't think the artworks in manga I like are the most well-drawn, but I definitely believe that they are the most creative and interesting. I like Ken Akamatsu's art, Masashi and Seishi Kishimoto's art. I like the vast chararcter designs in Bleach, I like the art of Psyren and in Rurouni Kenshin. |

What I believe are the most well-drawn mangas in term of detail are....... well either between Rosario+Vampire (especially by season 2) and Air Gear, even though I hardly ever read that manga. I like how those 2 artists maintain a sense of realistic expression but can still at times sustain certain facial expression that you would only see in manga. |

Most well drawn manga is a completely subjective topic. But in amounts of sheer detail, I would say Gon is my choice. It is not my favourite style though. |

As I read more La Nouvelle manga (for those that don't know, it is an underground manga movement that rejects much of the mainstream stuff and seeks influences from outside of the Japan, most notably France), I start to realize that well drawn doesn't really matter so much as the mood that the art conveys. The best example would be Blue by Kiriko Nananan. Simply by looking at the art, it would be one of the worst pieces of manga printed. But with combination with the story, it becomes one of the most emotionally tangled piece that Japan has exported to date. The French comic master Moebius (huge influence on the underground scene) once wrote that there are "Two types of comic art: quantity and quality. Quantity is the amount of detail that is in a panel while quality is something different" (the rest of the quote escape my mind, but he wrote that in Epic Comic's edition of The Long Tomorrow). Using examples to describe the types, Akira and Gon is quantity while the works of Taiyo Matsumoto (No. 5, Tekkon Kinkreet) are quality (as is most underground manga). I find almost all mainstream mangas in terms of their art to be unoriginal and copied, inferior in quallity and quantity. For me, many of the characters look the same and since that art style is prevalent, even a monkey can draw manga (read the series, it is a hilarious parody of the entire industry and still true). But back to the topic. My list consists of this: Akira, later Osamu Tezuka, Blue, Tekkon Kinreet, Lone Wolf and Cub, the works of Yoshihiro Tatsumi, BLAME!, The Summit of the Gods, Solanin, Uzumaki, Ultra-Gash Inferno, Yokohama Kaidashi Kikorou, and Pure Trance (in addition the the many Western artists). I have not read Ultra-gash Inferno but have seen some of the art and was blown away. It is so richly detailed and grotesque that I was immediately disturbed to an extreme and is definitely not for the faint of heart (even even slightly). "In the Beginning, the creative energy radiates from within." - No, no. That's Lame. Sounds like something out of a Jodorowsky comic. The Tokusyu Manga Club - Features alternative comics/avant-garde comics/outsider comics/psychdelic comics/surrealistic comics/underground comics + La Nouvelle Manga (part of Alternative). If I'm here, its because I have nothing better to do. |

I think Naruto is especially since it's out like once every week and it looks amazingly drawn for that little time it's given. If that makes sense. Favorite anime quote ever:"It's over 9,000!" - Vegeta,Dragon Ball Z |

Vagabond. Putting aside its realistic art style, the art is still at a high quality even after 270 chapters and it's easy to distinguish between characters, places and items. There are no repeated scenes and cheap computerized shots, textures and landscapes. I agree with Baman regarding Kaoru Mori's works. The woman draws details on items for textures when other mangakas use programs. |

Vagabond is released every week (goes on hiatus sometimes, though) too. And its art is a lot better than Naruto. But of course, it's subjective. |
