This certainly was an unexpected turn of events. I knew things were too good for Honda and his son to be truth, but still, I never thought something like this would happen. Poor Goro, losing his parents when he's still a child.

I wonder what Gibson will do from now on, I'm looking forward for his character development.

I just fucking cried.

Wow.

When I saw the episode was titled "Farewell", I kinda expected this. But it was still a shock.

I hope Gibson is gonna be revolutionizing baseball in JP, and coach Goro.

Kaaaaah, I just knew he would get hit and something bad would happen from the opening but this was just soooooo sad.... Ugh, saddest thing I've seen in quite awhile... Poor Goro, first losing his mother at the age of 4 and now his father at the age of 6...

holy fuck I probably tear up once in about 100 anime I see and not until towards the end of the series, but this anime.....

What doesn't make sense is that this anime is so damn predictable that there should be little to no psychological effect on me. Looks like I'm in for a long haul... how many season does this anime has? 9 now?

It's good to be alive.. (no disrespect to Honda-san) RIP

Not only did he die, but Goro was up for a few hours thinking he was asleep. Way too cruel for everyone.

What the hell how unrealistic can you get?! Helmets don't crack like that even if they do get hit! And even if they do crack they protect the head enough to not let THAT happen. That ticks me off a bit.

What a great start to an anime. The pacing wasn't perfect, but the story is still well told. For some reasons, it looks lke its gonna turn into a generic sport anime and never top this episode.I hope to be proved wrong.

Humm, that is tough to say. Nothing can top losing BOTH parents, but this is the best damn baseball animation of all time, so I think I can say that if you appreciate Goto as a character you will not be disappointed.

Been a while since an anime has made me teary eyed. Shigeharu was a great character too. I wish they had at least 1 episode of Shigeharu and Momoko happy together. This series definitely has me more hooked than it already did.

They should have brought him immediately to the hospital after the game for check up or have him stop playing during the game. I thought that is the standard procedure if there is an accident that affected the head especially if he went unconscious (like in basketball). I was surprised that he was still able to play in the previous episode despite that. **Sigh**, its sad. Somehow, the Ocean's management is partly to be blamed for not forcing him do to check up immediately! Grr.. i'm kinda sad and pissed off now..

This was really ****ing depressing. Someone please tell me that depressing episodes like this aren't the norm in this anime, I don't think I can handle it. Or more like I don't want to handle it. I just wanted a fun baseball anime

Nah, in terms of "holy shit" level sadness (character death etc), the worse you'll see later is athletes injuries and some losing games here and there. But, it might be painful. But, it will be fun.

If I was on Goro's shoes, I don't think there's no reason for me to live anymore. I'll go with my parents too.

This was the feels train episode of the century right here. Right up there with Cross Game's first episode and the last episode of Touch's first season. Why are baseball anime so f'n amazing?

Okay one thing to comment on before I start blubbering . . . Why did he not get checked up before going to sleep? I mean he could have had a concussion, and then gone to sleep and slipped into a coma.

Now then . . . WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. Seriously though, it has been awhile since a series made me cry and god darnit this one hit home. Though I am also really happy that Momoko stepped in like that, although that in itself was tragic too, they had just started their relationship and he passes away just like that.

Fuck, man, I cried like a little bitch. Goddamnit, dude, that poor kid. He lost his mom. And now he lost his dad and life model, just when he had reached its peak. It's like putting happiness to the maximum, only to suddenly crush it... Being Goro is suffering. He's now an orphan of his biological parents, at only 6 years old. The worse I think is that he had the time to know them and love them.

Gibson will be haunted by that for the rest of his life. People may have short memory, but the feeling of guilt, sometime, you can never get over it.

Reminds me of what happened to Phil Hughes.

Concussions are serious fucking business people. The medical staff on that baseball team are fucking useless. He should have been taken to the hospital immediately. Letting him play the the rest of the game was absolutely, completely retarded.

That was one of the saddest episode i've ever experienced. And still a disconcerting sense of peace remains.
Honda had the worst karma ever, he just wasn't meant to be happy. Let us hope his son will have a better future...

Of course Gibson had to speak during one of the most tragic scenes. I couldn't help but laugh at his "Sorry boy" and his shitty accent...

holy cow i cried so hard after watching this episode, not to mention i am watching it while eating my dinner.. this is the first time ever an anime made me cry more than 5 minutes, i actually cried for like 15 minutes because of how sad this episode is.

i just keep shouting "don't die, don't die" for the rest of the episode after he collapsed that morning, and when gibson's manager answering that phone and said that honda passed away, i just burst out crying. T__T Hoshino even know honda's death through TV news, i couldn't imagine the feeling.

life is so unfair for honda-san, how could this happened to him..

That was probably one of the most depressing things I've ever watch. I can't even imagine how hard this must be for Goro to have now lost both his parents at the age of 6, especially when Honda and Hoshino were planning on getting married. Why the fuck is it that awesome characters like Honda always get killed off early in the most depressing ways? ;_;

Was not expecting that, at all. This is so heartbreaking, everything was going so well, and then this, it's really messed up. Poor Goro. Shigeharu didn't deserve that, I wished he could have lived and seen his son grow up and reach his dreams.
