So, I've been getting into making music lately (Have to kill time with something), and I've been having a lot of fun with it. As such, I thought we could have a thread for people to post their music and/or critique/give suggestions on how to improve. I'll start it off with the latest song I made: Looking forward to hearing more music made by other MAL users~ |

Neverender said: well, there's this topic too, but w/e works Oh, I forgot to search around. Kind of an annoying rule, since it's hard to continue a 6 month old discussion, but if a mod wants to lock it then oh well. Also, Lithia, really nice piano playing. I got started playing a while ago but I haven't been motivated to do it lately. I didn't even get to a very good level (Just was learning Bach's first invention) but I only played for about a month :/. |

Did you just practice on your own, or do you study music? The way you composed the piece reminds me a lot of The Art of Noise, a group from the 80's that did a lot of synthesizer and computer editted "instrumentals". If you haven't heard of them, their work may interest you. I don't have any original music, but my nephew's got a little home studio. Maybe I'll grab my guitar and mess around a bit and post the results. |

I don't have much practice, aside from a month of learning a couple songs on piano and otherwise just always having some random made-up song running through my head. I've just been learning the software I've been using (FL studio) so it's getting easier to take something from my head and make it a song, although I still can't totally do it and it ends up kind of changing in the process. I haven't heard of them, but sounds interesting. I'll check them out. |

I don't have any oriiginal music (I don't have the capability to do so) but I have some cover song with an electric guitar. I'm still learning with the guitar so please be easy on me. I think that counts, right? Don't Say "Lazy" God Knows... Also, I have some songs that I have yet to perfect: http://etherune.files.deltaanime.net/guitarcover/ Should I post it here or in the other thread? @Lith Nice Tori no Uta ^^ |

P.S. do you have a nicovideo-account? (if yes, there's a guy who also did a recording of God knows a friend of mine[/]b who also covered god knows showed it to me) that version is absolutely amazing (god knows shige ver are, I believe, the magic words google wants to hear) |

Thanks. It was hell before I was able to produce a sound like that. Yeah, since I care much about all the tracks I'm hearing. Playing only one part will weaken the other guitars. I have a nicovideo account. I'll search with those tags. |

I tried using a cheap mic before and ended up failing...a serious one. My guitar is directly connected to sound card. I hope it won't be that dangerous but all of my work as of now used that setup. Anyway here's another cover. It's not an anime song. It's pinoy alternative rock (from Philippines) and yes it's in our language. http://ryantoddrogers.com/Sylpheed/guitarcover/Sylpheed%20-%20Martyr%20Nyebera.mp3 |

SmileWithMe said: lol damn. My piano is a regular upright so no recording for me? You can record anything that makes a sound. Quite literally. I would love to post some music but I have just lost everything I made. Hm, it wasn't great anyway. I am getting more progressive these days especially understanding modality a lot more. Rather than being chromatic or greyscale like (boring) classical stuff. I love the Zanarkand theme, it is very emotive. Infact I love the pentatonic scale and heptatonic scales and their augmentations, I made a pretty vague music thread I hope to see you in there and we can talk *stern scowl* |

It's the quality of the sound that I want going through. I can record it with my cell phone but it would come out screechy and unpleasant on the ears. Don't mean to sound like I'm boasting but a friend of mine recorded my piano variation of an originally vocalised song with his cell phone, and I have to say it was pretty crappy quality. Seems like all cell phones are like that. Still I'm flattered that he wanted to keep it despite the quality. ^_^' |

If not then audio won't be as big a problem as MIDI because of the level of approximation and the formula and such... You can get a decent computer for very cheap from a wholesaler like MicroDirect... It's the quality of the sound that I want going through. A phone is terribly lossy invest in a microphone when you get the money. Condenser is probably better. though for piano you generally use a combination of mics for ambience and thickness. There is huge speculation upon the sort of best mics to use. A mic/DAT recorder could also help...you knowm a directional mic. |

If not then audio won't be as big a problem as MIDI because of the level of approximation and the formula and such... You can get a decent computer for very cheap from a wholesaler like MicroDirect... I mean a digital piano (I'm using that and I believe I mentioned on the prev. page) True buy a cheap comp and record, it's what a lot of people do. But if I can use my current, then I see no need to buy a new one :] (on a sidenote, I've never heard of MicroDirect) Indeed cellphones record shit quality (pardon my french). The recording bitrate is low, they are commonly not high-tone-proof (if a tone is high the sounds sounds tatic/crackles) and overall the output quality is...abysmal if you ask me. A microphone would be the better solution (if you've got an acoustic piano) problem will then be: background noice. That's the blessing with line-in recording, no BG noice and perfect quality (figuratively speaking). - Lith. |
