This series is just brilliant, i have loved every moment of it so far. This episode was slower but it introduced us to some of the new chosen ones and obviously now the guy who likes saki is going to have some bigger involvement. I guess i don't have too much to say about this episode, just can't wait to see more!

also i gotta give credit to the attention in detail in this series. Everything in the environments and such is so detailed and it looks great. The animation is amazing and some of the small things they do is impressive.

She always looks cute, no matter what she wears.

Even though I love the Akira + Saki pairing, the kiss was sort of disappointing. First half of the episode was boring, second half was better.

Yeah, but that's exactly what I didn't feel. It was as if Akira kissed her just to make her feel better.

Here's to hoping for another kiss.

Ohsugi is dead. But it won't be quick or painless.

Slow paced episode but it gave a nice foundation for things to come as well as some additional info about other Selecaos and the missile attacks. I wonder who will they wrap up things.

Ehh, this was just an ok episode. We saw a new Selecao and got info on what happened to the NEETs, but really, nothing terribly interesting. Saki's interview was way too stretched out. Unless something was really poignant that I missed, it could have been done in half the time with the same effect.

Marvelous episode. The kiss on the boardwalk was a welcome surprise. I feel sorry for Ohsugi, but I could tell from episode 2 he wasn't the one Saki had any feelings for. Hopefully Psycho-betch wont kill him.

two more of the numbers revealed: one seems to work at a military base, and the other a woman who looses control of herself and kills people (apparently).
any else think the guy with the meetbuns might have been one of those neets?
the "make the prime minister say uncle" was pretty funny being taken literal, and some how the guys approval rating went up 10%, now if life was that easy...

Saki said she "loved Ryouski so much" - who is that again? He's not on the character list and I can't remember.

Good episode I guess, but the kiss could have been better. I wish it hadn't happened at all if it was going to be that anticlimactic.

Isn't Ryosuke the guy at the bakery, her sister's husband? That's who I always thought it was but I didn't care much, because Saki x Akira = ftw.

I loved their kiss, even though it wasn't in stereotypical shoujo form.

Ryosuke is her brother-in-law.

I guess Saki's sister didn't hear or take it to heart when said, "You'd say it now, but that kindness really hurts." I'm glad this episode answered a few questions, but I guess I'd like to see a bit more of who's in Saki's social circle, even if they don't contribute to the flow of the story. But just to get a better understanding of who's who.

Seems like Akira refers to Johnny often though.

This episode was kinda slow, and nothing really happened. But we got some character development for Saki (cute in that suit btw) and some hints on what Akira is planning, so it was still interesting. Saki crying was pretty touching too.

If Ohsugi dies I don't think many will care about it. His character hasn't been developed enough for his death to matter.

Suprisingly, I really liked this episode. I love seeing how Saki and Akira's relationship changes and grows. And I am deeply curious about why he sent the NEETs to Dubai.

The kiss! It was awesome! I don't care if he did it just to make her feel better, it was still wicked!

This series is by far one of the better ones out right now. Maybe the best, for me.

Great episode, as seems usual for this series. There wasn't quite as much info this time, but we got some character development for Saki, as well as new Selecao (and confirmation that Akira didn't kill the NEETs). I also really loved the boardwalk scene, though not so much for the kiss (which felt like cold comfort to me -- though that too is appropriate) as for Akira's expressions -- sort of dispassionate, detached from what Saki was saying. There have been few times in anime where, just watching a character's face, I wanted so much to know what was going on inside his head. He obviously has formulated a plan, but what? This is probably the first series I've watched that immediately makes me want to go back through the episode once I'm done to study scenes in further detail.

Also interesting to me that the name "Selecao" is out among the government, as evidenced by the TV clip Akira watched. I wonder if the place the Selecao with the ring was at was the same base where the missiles came from ...

there's only 11 episodes, its totally possible that he's a dead man.

I do wonder why the Supporter hasn't killed the serial killer/black widow chick. pretty sure her behavior is a fairly clear violation of the rules.

also, been figuring Saki had a crush on the brother-in-law since last episode when they showed that movie poster in the front hall way. tho i do wonder how she managed to forget the name of the movie is she sees it everyday.

anyone else think it was funny that the Prime Minister's approval ratings skyrocketed after he said Uncle?

yeah
that boardwalk scene was pretty interesting, she was opening up to him, possibly in hopes of some sort of compassion but he seemed to be in his own world. I feel like it told us a lot about each of the characters. You describe the kiss as cold, to me that was fitting for his character.

All in all a great episode once again
usually I would be at odds with a short series slowly spewing information to us
but for this series it makes it more attractive

Im starting to think that the all "If you give the best use for your 10 Billion you will be saved" its a lie. I think there will be no saving, but with that faint light that you can get out of the game alive, most of the Seleção will try their best for Japan.

Hmmm so we are now introduced to the new theme of the series: "Young people are the new protagonists of society" as Saki says. I understand how Kamiyama would want to put this theme at the center of the anime since it's a fundamental problem of our time, especially in Japan where birth rates are falling and the Japanese youth must now save a country that has been heavily mismanaged for almost twenty five years now and in crisis for approximately as much. And it seems like that is what Akira was trying to solve until his "revival", by helping NEETs (the symbol of Japanese youth) to become adults and true members of society. Must be a very talked about theme at Production IG right now since this was also the main theme of Oshii's masterpiece "The Sky Crawlers".

Fantastic episode overall, incredibly deep and well-thought as well as directed. It flowed perfectly from beginning to end with spectacular graphics and animation as usual. A masterpiece, just like the first four episodes. The only issues I see here are the absence of clear cinema reference (I thought we'd had one per episode, I feel betrayed :'() and also, I don't really see how this series can become better from now one, it seems to have reached the top of what japanese animation can offer us...

Hm, I was surprised to see a female Selecao. Not that I'm a sexist or anything, I mean, I'm female myself, but it's definitely not something I'd expected. At first I thought she was some kind of hooker, lol. After seeing her approaching Satoshi while he was drunk, I'm getting the feeling she thinks she can rinse Japan by murdering 'in her eyes useless' men she sees as scum?

Oh, and 'babyface' can die, I don't care, hehe.

I wonder how Akira could have missed the name dropping of 'Selecao', when the ministers etc. were debating..

It was nice to see Saki in a suit. She looked so mature all of a sudden. Have I missed something, but is she really 'in love' with her sisters fiancé?

The kiss was such a sweet gesture from Akira. I don't think he already 'likes' her, probably just to comfort her a bit.

Okay, I gotta say, I just loved this scene. A still doesn't do it justice..

The hints were incredibly obvious. When Akira and Saki were in Akira's cinema, Akira asked Saki which movie she'd like to see, and she name dropped 'The Deep Blue'. The reason for this was, "that someone (she) liked, liked that movie, too". When Saki gets back home, the sister's fiancée welcomes her, and we see a poster of said movie in the hall after the greeting. That says it all, really. And of course, at the start of this episode, when Saki says that his kindness is painful to her.

i'm in the "i really liked this episode" camp. great character exploration, blue girl is attractive, we get shadows of dealings with the selecao to come, and most importantly we learn that the neets were, in fact, not killed, but rather dropped in dubai (rehabilitation?).

i'm happy to see akira and saki's relationship progress. it's obvious that they're interested in each other, and i was glad to see her go with akira over ohsugi.

No really, Akari was especially amazing in this episode. That scene was intense, he was in deep thought. Thinking of his future, thinking of Saki as well. Should he accept her into his life, and risking bla bla bla. Obviously so, that kissed sealed the deal. <3

You act like that first scenario is a rarity or doesn't make sense. It's rather common and makes perfect, human sense.

Heart-broken girl making a confession? Check.
Sympathetic, open guy drawn into her weakness because of his own feeling of responsibility? Check.
Good environment / atmosphere? Check.

I do agree that a lot of Akira's actions are a bit unrealistic (like opening his closet to find a full collection of terrorist gear... and then just shrugging it off), but I don't think this situation was detached from reality.

But I think a lot of things make sense now... not so much in a way I had hoped for (since the romance between Akira and Saki isn't so pure and innocent anymore, it's potentially rather dishonest, flawed, and the result of Saki's predisposition)... but still they make sense in a rather human way.

I think this episode did a fantastic job of establishing Morimi as a very human character and finally put what occurred in the first few episodes within a more detailed context we can associate with.

Before, Morimi's behavior in the first few episodes was justified by her entry into a transition phase in life and the fact that she didn't know who she was or what to do with herself.

Now, they've added two more layers of depth and explanation on to those events and have made them much more believable. The first is her alienation from the working class (which was just made completely apparent now... but obviously was something that built up over time as she had described to Akira). The second is her problematic and unfortunately unrealized emotions for her sister's husband (of the which adds justification to how open she was to Akira).

But now that I bring up the second point, I might as well go back to what I said earlier about how Akira and Saki's relationship isn't so pure and innocent anymore. Now, it seems as if Saki latched onto Akira as a means of needing someone to comfort her and help her forget about her sister's husband. She obviously still prioritizes him over Akira.

I don't really know what's going on there anymore when before, it was pretty straight-forward. Doesn't help that Akira has seemingly found his way in life while she's still lost. Before, she didn't really care about who Akira really was... it was much simpler. Now, she has to ask. This is kind of what I feared would happen when they separated at the start of episode 3. I kind of liked the previous dynamic where they were walking together in the path to discover who they were. Now, it seems like Akira is going to be pulling her along like in the ED animation.

And yea, Akira has found himself in this episode. Ironically, it's the same goal he had before he wiped his memories out. Maybe he eventually finds himself pressed against the same situation that made him wipe out his memories and realizes the truth of everything? Kind of like an Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind moment.

But a ton happened this episode. It was just a bit more subtle. You really had to read into things.
