A live action movie of "Kaiji" will be premiered on October 10th. The biggest alternation in the setting is that Endou Yuuji was switched with a lady Endou Rinko played by Amami Yuki (official website). Fujiwara Tatsuya (official website) plays the main character Itou Kaiji. Fujiwara played Yagami Light in the live action movie of Death Note.

Fujiwara's ok, does the best he can with shitty scripts he's given, and I've never seen Kaiji, but he doesnt look the gamblish type. Kaiji watchers, what do you think?

What the... there shouldn't be any women in an adaptation of Kaiji.

ummm, no, this isn't right.. *sob*

but i can see why they're doing this. they don't want the movie to be directed towards the same specific demographic that the manga/anime was. by changing endou to a woman and adding an extremely popular actor among women, the original demographic is now stretched out to include women. they'll get a bigger audience = more money.

Depends. Will he be wearing a chin prosthetic?

He looks kind of loserish though, just like Kaiji.

@RetroRainbow: Doesn't look like a woman to me.
...All right, but there obviously shouldn't be any women in the main cast.

Wow, this sounds more awful than live action adaptations of manga/anime usually sound. Fujiwara is a decent actor, but I simply can't picture him as Kaiji.

I know. He looks too bishounen for a role like Kaiji (pathetic thug -> elite gambler).

As soon as I saw that scene, I kinda felt wrong about it somehow. I never put my finger on why until now.

As for the movie, I'd like to see it regardless but it'd be more fun with pointy/gigantic noses and chins.

WHAT.

Fujiwara's unfit for Kaiji's role. I'd rather have his seiyuu doing it than him.

Agreed. Regardless, the idea is at least mildly intriguing, and unlike the series, hopefully the live action film won't be a commercial failure despite its tremendous degree of quality.

That and there was a girl working at the convenience store that Kaiji and Sahara used to work at before they did the human derby.

Either way it does tone down one of the manliest series ever. Though it could have been worse if like say Tonegawa was played by a woman. But still, this is one heavy blow to the Kaiji fanbase.
