Nah, I wouldn't say "Shinji x Rei" was a given here. I think Shinji just cares for Rei, it's not quite romantic yet, I think. I do love this episode, a lot. The first 6 episodes of Evangelion are absolutely fantastic, actually! Sure, Asuka is a great addition to the cast, but I think the episodes that precede her entrance and among the best anime episodes ever! |

Shinji is opening up Rei's emotion ^_^ I guess he started to adapt to his military enviroment as well^_^... or is it because it's a do or die situation? Funny that Shinji open the hatch like his father did, I think that thing burnt Shinji's hands as well.  |
