Well after being called retarded for the x amount times because of my hobby choices, I was just wondering what is your take on collecting anime figures and anime related items.

I obviously enjoy it. But I don't understand why others find it so rediculous. There's sports enthusists car enthusists and such that requires much more in investments. But no matter who I turn to tha isn't an anime figure collector pretty much have strong opinions against it.

Can anyone help me understand why something I enjoy is such a fallacy?

I heard that golf clubs are good stress relievers in more than one way.

I also collect figurines and I don't really see anything wrong with it.

No more different from collecting anything else, just a bit pricier sometimes. It's not like collecting coins or whatever is much more useful either.

a fallacy is a flaw in reasoning, this is about emotions. if it's something that you derive pleasure from, then it is something worthwhile for you. the problem is caring too much about what other people think. you will find people who criticize you to no end, but also those who outright share your passions. it's really about people and their differences. sometimes people criticize what the do not understand.

This. If you enjoy it, then it's not a waste of money.

For me, kind of a waste. I'd rather buy manga/anime/books/video games. Figmas are fun for five minutes, but they just kinda sit there the rest of the time. You can't really do much with them.

Then again, I find no enjoyment from collecting crap to clutter up my house. This applies to any sort of collectibles, not just anime figures.

Its a waste of money unless it gives you enjoyment. If your happy with the figures and enjoy the hobby then for you, it probably isint a waste of money. For me, it is. i just dont see the point. Im much more into collecting anime rather than collecting figures.

I think its a cool hobby. *Wants to buy a few*
Northern wind take my song up high
To the hall of glory in the sky
So it's gates shall greet me open wide
When my time has come to die

I bought a few to decorate my room, far too expensive for me to collect large amounts of them.

As has been said before, if you enjoy it then its not a waste of money.

a misconception resulting from incorrect reasoning, I thought maybe i was wrong in collecting these figures considering noone i know (save but a handful of people on the net) are as passionate as i am about it.

I think its a waste of space and money. I only collect manga. I'll get some wallscrolls and posters.

Action figurines are just a waste to me.

I used to buy anime figurines and action figures in middle school but that was to play with them. (I had some Sailor Moon dolls in elementary school too) But now, that would be a waste of money for me.

But if it's something you like doing, it's not really a waste.

I have tons of Pokemon figures... But besides those, I don't remember spending any money on other anime figurines. As a kid, those pokemon toys were used to make recess less boring and we battled them. >>

It's a collection as any other. I collect postcards, pens, Littlest Petshop phone-straps and used pencils, it's more retarded than figures.

If I could, I'd buy all the merchandise I desire, you're lucky if you have enough money to make a hobby of collecting figures. I only have a couple.

If you like it, it's good. Nobody has the right to judge you.
