Meh, plot looks dumb at first sight, art is bad, characters even worse. I guess it's better to drop it now than later.

Not as good as I first thought it would be, but it was still entertaining.
Oh, and did my ears deceived me, or did Nakata Jouji voiced that transvestite? If so, then T_T

They're hiding this information. :) But you could be right I think.

Hmm... promising. I'm hoping they'll explain what "the disaster" was. Is the earth running out of air/overloaded with carbon dioxide, thus the carbon tax?

I'm liking it. I don't know why, but its giving me the same vibes Ergo Proxy gave me. And I love Ergo Proxy. It's probably the after the almost end of the world kind of thing.

I thought the mains weapon seemed to change size from time to time, but I liked the fact she realistically isnt completely pro with it.

I also like the girl with the bear. Smart nutty kids are always so fun.

It was the same throughout the entire history of humanity...you won't get any profit from helping each other, that's the reason.

Kind of a meh episode for myself. So far I really don't care for any of the characters other than Kuniko. Definitely different from most things so I guess I'll give it another episode or two to see where it goes.

Profit....back to the element of greed. I see.

It's a different kind of story....i'm kind of excited to where it will go. The only thing I don't like about it is 8 year girls with to much power. it's kind of hard to releate to that.
Like any of us can relate to being the successor of a country, either. I had similar feelings at first, but I've chalked it up to removing myself from the story and enjoying the unfolding of the plot.

The animation's not quite where I was hoping it would be, but it's still pretty decent, all things considered. The boomerang is as stylish as I thought it was going to be, so it's a plus.

The plot wasn't that hard to follow, people: in the future, the atmosphere is screwed because of CO2. A worldwide tax is placed on countries producing carbon dioxide as a deterrent. Japan reclaims most of it's urbanized sectors with trees to reduce the carbon tax. The Metal-age faction is opposed to this, which is why they're targets of the government. Atlus, the knives, and why there's a loli princess will all be explained later. A good story doesn't tell you everything at once.

*sighs* Well, now that I sound like a dick... looking forward to the next episode!

Formally speaking, Shangri-La is close to perfection with fantastic chara-design (yes, I'm a Range Murata fan), awesome animation and 3D integration (for once), great and original BGM and unbelievable art direction, especially when the heroin leaves the prison at the beginning. I don't even speak about the OP/ED, it's too hard to find words for them. Overall the script starts quite well with an enjoyable introductive episode and interesting characters too (I already like Kuniko). Not a fantastic scenario though, and a lot of unneeded scenes, but there are promises, and anyway, it's good to see such a SF/adventure series right now in an industry plagued by moe/otaku-centric shows. Just for that, I'll watch it (and for Murata too obviously).

In every age, in every place, the deeds of men remain the same.

I liked the character designs, but I'm not so sure I like how they look animated. I hate to compare, but Last Exile did a better job with Range Murata's work.

Other than that, this series has lots of interesting ideas, but also a healthy dose of crack (transvestites are one thing, but when they can stop professional soldiers with guns just by hitting on them? Come on). I was a bit confused during the carbon exchange, as I didn't catch what the leader of the country had to give up for the contract.

There's enough good here that I'll keep watching for a few episodes at least.

Loved it. Great art, great bgm, cool characters (lol @ battle transvestites though), and the plot seems to be interesting (I love post-apocalyptic stuff).

Besides the Ergo Proxy vibes others have mentioned, it also reminded me alot of Wonderful Days.

Yes. I thought I was transported to some evil space lord's battleship looking to take over the universe.

I'm intrigued. I hate to say it, but Gonzo does make me wary. However, the animation was pretty good and I think I'd really like to see this series go somewhere.

Anyway, will give it a few more eps till I form a strong opinion. There were some things that I enjoyed a lot and some things that I really didn't like.

Btw, anyone else laughed when the evil music started playing while the blond lady was taking a bath? xD

Also, Momoko = awesome beyond words.

To me I saw fan service to be revealed in DVD.

I couldn't get into it the first half, during all the talking, but the parts with the main character were good. I like the main char and her weapon. The action sequence at the end was awesome. Hated the transsexual dude.

Too rushed in one episode but just maybe things will make sense later.

Love Momoko but the transvestite scared the hell out of me \(@__@)/ "no dont touch me!"

Has good potential, ill continue to see how it goes.

Pretty good first ep.

Momoko was hilarious. At first I was like boy another transgendered character but then came the fight scene at metal-age and I just couldn't stop laughing.

Love how the soldiers completely run away after they see what he does to the first two soldiers and then starts to run after them shouting men!

Kuninko got some good moves with that boomerang too.

I guess heterochromia is a trend this season with the little girl in this show and Asura Cryin.

Ah well lets see what Gonzo has up their sleeve with this show.

Great starting episode!

What happened at the end? It was like a black rain.

Completely ridiculous storytelling, oh silly Gonzo. Why did you make 3 shows in one season, why not just focus all your budget into this one series, but no, you screwed yourselves over yet again.

Looks like this is gonna be failed potential :/

And damn, they could have got some better voice actors, talk about ruining a characters image.

I wasn't sure what to make of this show. The last 5 minutes or so hooked me.

Love the blue-haired tran. She's fabulous and I might watch just to get good doses of her.

I must say though... .the character designs were merged better in Last Exile than they were here. Oh well. It was just the first episode after all.
