THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
This episode wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. :<

The character designs are much better than they were on the staff's blog, some of them are actually cute. Yuuki/tacos especially.

Could have used more mahjong though, maybe a bit less GIGANTIC BREASTS. I didn't like how they rarely showed anyone's hands and only one or two deals. But then this is a moeblob show and not a mahjong show, after all.

edit: crunchyroll subs are out, don't think I have raged this hard at subtitles ever

Nothing less from Pureito. Who else could start the Saki discussion than you.

Finally an Anime about the fun part of Mahjong. The game as it is in the reality.
Not like the usual Yakuza mahjong with triple yakumans and dora 64...
Okay... Maybe the lightning, and that rinshan tsumo is less common...

maybe a bit less GIGANTIC BREASTS

Did you expect anything else from GONZO? ;)

edit: I can not comment anything good about Crunchy, so if you excuse me I would like to refrain from that.

Moe Mah Jong.....DIGG IT!

i should learn how to play mah jong now lol.

Saki looks so much like Miyafuji Yoshika from Strike Witches, the similiarities are scary.

I started this mainly because of the seiyuu cast, so my expectations were pretty much fulfilled:
An enjoyable episode (about a game I have no idea how to play =P).

Can we say that Tacos+ Mahjong + Moe = win?

It was a very interesting 1st episode, I definitely need to pick up Mahjong (been meaning to for a while actually) I'm still expecting Jun to get up and do something fabulous and crazy with the tiles but then again he's a newbie in this story =(.

Will continue watching this for sure!

MAL does have a mahjong club with helpful links to learn the game.
It's easy to learn, but hard to master.

Thread hijack over. the rest can be discussed, when you join that club.

Sorry Plate

Without knowing the rules of Mahjong, I was pretty confused. Yet, the ending was still quite exciting. I don't know if I'm going to be sticking with this anime or not; I'm way more excited for Strike Witches 2. ^^;

After watching Akagi from Triad those CR subs made little sense. The quality was also fabulous; please tell me some decent group is subbing this...

Other than that I really liked it, Mahjong with fanservice and Lelouch and Kallen, what's not to like?

That Mahjong table they were using seemed interesting, it shuffles the tiles automagically or something?

Not a bad start.. One of the other things I liked was the seiyuu cast! Nothing spectacular about the animation but still good.

Those tables are standard equipment.
Yes they shuffle 1 set of tiles, and build the wall during you play with the other set.
some are building the starting hands too, so "throwing" the dice is kinda useless with those tables imho.

A pretty good adaptation so far. I was anticipating that epic moment with Saki at the end from having read the manga. Definitely looking forward to more...it was also great to hear a couple of my favourite seiyuu doing roles and voices that sound different.

As for CR subs, I liked the simplification of some of the hand names, while others simply made me go "What?" Following the terminology in Akagi, while still epic, made my brain hurt at times. Aside from that, I'd prefer a decent sub group.

I gotta say GONZO surprised me in a good sense with the 1st episode. The character designs are at an average level for a manga adaptation, the discard sequences are not as intense but are well animated, and the highlight rinshan kaihou was done quite well, and it was a scene I expected them to flunk(mostly because the manga gets at an awesomeness level too big for television).

Hopefully Shangri-La comes out nicely as well.

Liked it. Good skirt length, pink twintails+zettai ryouki = lovely.
Dont care about mahjong, so as from total amateurs point of view, the games looked interesting enough.

Eh, it was okay. The loli really got on my nerves and if she was ousted from the club I would have given it a 4/5 instead of the 3/5.

I loved the HnG homage with Saki having her own "hand of god" epic tile placement at the end.

Didn't know what the heck was going on, but it was good lol, I pretty much enjoyed the first episode.

Some girls have really long skirts and some have really short, I didn't see in between LOL.

P.S. If anyone's wondering, here's a site which teaches you how to play Mahjong, well the basics anyway:

Lol, I understood a bit >.> Still a bit confused

I too know nothing about mahjong, but I love these type of stories so I'm sticking with it and hopefully I'l pick it up as it goes on.

The best part for me was the lightning at the end, it was HnG-like but I too doubt it was homage. Second best was knowing a Japanese cafeteria sells tacos. I wonder if tacos are good in Japan.

What I really wanted to see was a Yukari-sensei type thing at the end to teach mahjong. That would've been awesome. I was in love with Yukari sensei at the end of HnG episodes. I think I'll check out the other sub group instead of CR next time.

Nodoka's breasts are irritating, apart from that "small" detail the character design is pretty much win, love the colorfulness.

pretty good knowing its from Gonzo and all. I was looking forward to it and in a way it did deliver. Boring episode? not true in my case, episode started relatively good and I cant really see it going any other way unless they show us flashback of Saki's playing. Now my only question left is what so good about not winning or losing in majong? Certainty its hard to do it but what can you do with it? I dont play so I dont know, but depending on how epic this skill will supposingly be it can gain a potentially high score.

well, i have absolutely no idea how to play the game or the rules etc... one of the trouble of anime like this is the need to overemphasize everything which makes it kinda korny. other than that, it looks good so ill watch the rest of it.
