Tsk tsk, what is with MAL.
First it sucessfully changes my avatar, now I try to change it again it refuses.
Then when I change my profile image it reverts to the old one!

Okay, so I uploaded a new profile pic. It shows up when I comment in Clubs, it shows up on my profile on my phone (and my tablet), but not on my laptop. Wth.

[b]Edited:[b] Nevermind, it's only Google Chrome it doesn't show up on.

[b]Edited 2:[b] I had to delete my browsing data for it to work.

I've been trying to change my picture. I have tried twice by changing it and waited 20 minutes between each try I then used the remove tool which seemed to work. But then I tried to upload my new picture. Instead of using my new one it reverted back to my first picture.

Am I doing something wrong?

It's usually just that old picture is still cached. I, for one, already see your new picture. Your browser thinks that the picture is the same, and shows you the one saved on your PC, not the one you uploaded, regardless of whether it changed or not, so if you still see the old one, hard-refresh the page. But the picture users see may vary from user to user, so if you still see the old one even after hard-refresh, then it wasn't updated on your side yet

Change it to a gif or a jpg and it should go through right away.

I tried that in the beginning, but then mistakenly forgot the grey bg color, so after some time i tried again and but the flawed image kept being there, keeping the correct one unloaded. Now i have changed to gif and that finally did it. Remind me to carefully check my profile and avatar pic for mistakes before trying next time D:

Thanks for the advices anyway ^_^

My avatar automatically breaks whenever I try uploading it. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it, and it doesn't exceed the size limit. In fact, it was working fine last night and until a few hours ago it was fine too.

This is the image. Just now I tried changing it to JPG but that did nothing, it still won't budge. MAL absolutely refuses to cooperate and use the avatar.

And considering MAL has no offsite url hosting, only uploads I tried making the background transparent so maybe it wouldn't recognize it..but it didn't work.

EDIT: It works now..somehow

EDIT 2: Image broke again somehow so there ya go

There's something written on that unknown image you struggle with. Something about hot-linking, and that it's not allowed. I suggest you to find out what hot-linking is, why some sites do not allow it, and re-upload your background to different image hosting server

I don't know, I never had a problem with imgur. How does a link that doesn't work for you look, anyway? People also use dropbox

That's why I ended up putting the source link directly

I use onedrive. You have over 10 GB free space to store your files and it works on MAL. You just have to set the confidentiality to public

My profile picture is not changing.
I did everything right. First I removed the old picture. Then I uploaded the new one.
But instead of seeing the new pic, the profile picture changed back to the older one.
What should I do?

Yep, I'm sure, it's quite an obvious difference. Right now I don't have a profile pic because I removed it. I'd rather have no profile picture than having the old one

Oh, I just saw you don't have profile picture and that's why I asked.
Anyway, did you see this: http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=76425&show=700#msg15521929? Basically, it just takes some time, and often what you see is your cached picture, not your current one. Have you hard-refreshed the page?

I'm trying to add my avatar to forums but the requirement is 100x125. Where do people find images that small? Is there a way to resize the picture to fit those dimensions?

You can manually shrink them on several websites. Just Google "Resize Image" or something. Be careful though as the first avatar image you save will likely be your permanent avatar with how MAL is acting right now.

I recently changed my forum avatar twice and it always worked with a day. 1 or 2 years ago I tried to change my avatar for 9 months without success (it kept reverting back) so I'd say it has improved greatly already. Rotating the file type works well for me.
I probably regret this post by now.

Yeah rotating your already saved avatar between jpeg, png, and gif is really the only way for me to change my forum avatar now. I just sacrificed my last gif spot for this bad boy. Waiting a few days didn't work for me at all, nor did clearing the cache or history. No clue when it's going to be really fixed.

I tried that, just because you keep recommending, but it didn't work. If you rename a jpg or a png type image to .gif, it will still be uploaded to it's type slot.

Are you trying to change your forum avatar or profile picture? Because, you see, it only works for the former
If it's the last, maybe you didn't do that properly? Sorry if you did, but can you show the image you uploaded as a .gif?

Why would I try it with a profile picture? I know profile pictures only have a .jpg slot, and it automatically changes any file type to .jpg

My current avatar:
myanimelist.net/images/useravatars/1853032.jpg

My old avatar:

Hey, tsud. Simply renaming the file always works for me. Perhaps what is happening to you is that the file extension name is hidden i.e. instead of naruto.jpg it only appears as naruto. So when you rename it, it becomes naruto.gif, but what it really becomes is naruto.gif.jpg.

I can't say for sure that we have the same situation, but this has happened to me once. (:

If you already have it taken, then you should also know that it will revert to your old gif avatar. Our advice only applies to people who don't have it taken

No, if the method actually works, then my avatar won't change but it will appear on the non-cdn link, which shows the recent uploaded avatar, but it went to the .jpg slot.

Because you don't actually rename its type. You still upload it with the same file extension, so what do you expect?

So the renaming, changes their file type? and does it also change the quality of the picture?

The only reason I'm trying your method, is because when you covert a static image to .gif it quality suffers a lot, and it's noticeable.

yes, it changes the file type, and no, it does not change the quality. you can edit it as jpg and then just rename it as gif.
