Hm... I watched Kanon 2006 first. And I think Kanon 2002 doesn't really look that good compared to the 2006 version. I also don't like the ending song that much.

I agree with you. But it does feel like Kanon, so that's positive!

First watching of Kanon. I'll probably switch tot he 2006 version, and see if that goes over better with me, this seemed pretty boring.

For even it's time period 2002 the art is pretty low budget is not very low quality compared to the other series that came ou that year like Haibane Renmei and GiTS:SAC the art looks very 1997-ish imo

Justifying revival purely because its Kanon.

2006 is obviously better in many, if not all aspects, though 2002 is still enjoyable nonetheless.

I also really LOVE the OP and ED for 2002.
Will I fall in love someday? I wonder?

Nice start of this Anime, I'm planning on first viewing this 2002 version and than later the 2006 so I won't get the ruined feeling of going from good to bad quality!

This first episode had some nice events gathered from their childhoods and the present! Can defiantly be a nice story buildup so let's get started with this Anime :D

After absolutely loving the first Kanon about 5 months ago. It's time to watch the inferior version.
It feels like the original though.

Trying my best not to compare the two Kanons but it's nice to see the similarities and differences between the two. It's also nice to take a look at Kanon's roots.

Also have seen the 2006 version, but quite sometime ago so I can't pick out the differences between the two quite so easily. The art is extremely bad, but it felt like Kanon and in the end that's what matters I suppose.

Haven't seen the 2006 version yet, but I want to give this one a shot before.

It was a decent start I guess.

Dem chins, tho xD Had to laugh the first few minutes until I got used to them.

One Piece episode 914 & 915 & 1027 were a mistake and 957 brought the salvation - FMmatron

Whats up with those face?! o_O I saw the image long time ago beforehand and thought those were memes or photoshopped and didn't expected to see for real. At least surprisingly voice actor did delivered the character role well enough.

Honestly about this episode, its fine start. Didn't watched 2006 edition just wanting to experience Key shows in airing wise. I already smelling love triangle settling up for MC.. :(

I'm watching this in the blistering summer heat. Terrible decision? Yes, very. But, it's nice to see snow while my town is a step away from getting extreme heat warnings.

The faces are pretty uguu-like, and I can see the legendary chins in full display. Nonetheless, the core story is still here, and the faces are still passable depending on the scene. I think issues only arise on certain close ups and when a character is looking upwards. While I was fine with the art, the one thing that bothers me is not hearing "Last Regrets" play. I mean, I can hear the instrumental version play at times, but the vocal version hasn't been used yet.

Pretty nice opening episode, coming in from reading the Visual Novel, I was expecting to see Yuichi
Aside from that, looking forward to watching the rest of this and the remake.
Summertime days, passing gently
Sunlight, leading to an encounter;
Dreams that don't want to end
Continue onwards toward the next day
While she waits in the air.

watched the 2006 version first. The animation style of this looks dated, but still it's good to see more of Ayu and the others.

Ayu so beautiful, when she introduced herself. She's so happy to see Yuichi again. :)

As many people here have stated, I too have watched the 2006 version of Kanon first. I did not play the original visual novel and I did hear that this is the inferior version, but I am willing to give this version a try and maybe check out that one OVA that came with it. It's currently winter after all, and I did watch Kanon (2006) last winter, so why not do the same but with this 2002 version? I decided to leave the window wide open as I watched this so that the winter atmosphere works well with my experience.
So anyway, let's give this show a shot. The OP and ED are not songs from the original visual novel as far as I've heard and I believe there are even a few original (as in not from VN or 2006 anime) BGM songs, but they're decent and I will look forward to watching these every episode (I usually don't skip OPs and EDs). I'm aware that this anime's art style is more closer to the VN's art style than the 2006 anime's art style is, but it will take some time before I get truly used to it.

All right, those notes aside, I will try my best to not compare this show to the 2006 anime in these Episode Discussion posts. It's only fair.
Yuichi moves into a new town with his cousin and aunt, finds a mysterious red headband in his room, recalls some memories from the past, and meets Ayu, the taiyaki-loving girl who he can't seem to recall being the same girl from his dreams. The plot thickens..... XD

I've seen the memes around this anime and weird faces, but I've never known anything about it besides that. Just finished the first episode, and I'm really not sure what's happening yet. The series is too short to drop, but I really hope I can figure out what's actually going on without needing to look at the source material. MAL affinity scores better not be lying about this anime being something I'd enjoy.

Opinions are opinions, and differing opinions can co-exist. 🙂 But I don't do debate, life's too short to spend time debating people.

Coming right off of the visual novel. All I can say is it is shocking how faithful this first episode is.

Toei street. Nice.
Like many others, I've seen the 2006 version first, and this looks good too, IMO.
Some interesting difference is that they already revealed some clues about Ayu's well-being from the start.

I'm still disoriented, but we have Yuuichi moving to a new town with his childhood friend, Nayuki. (edit: cousin)

He also met again, though he failed to remember her, Ayu, who is apparently the lead girl.

For all the warning I've read that the 2006 remake is better, I prefer to watch this one first and this doesn't seem so bad.
