Interesting episode about mermaids but it seems like I heard about it all about blood and immortally anyways I'd still enjoyed it.

Yeah that trick was indeed awful, but it was a misunderstanding...misunderstandings can be devestating thats why people should always question every bad thought and think twice before taking things the wrong way..

It turned to be a nice episode. And I'm getting to the end. I don't want it to end. Every episode makes be a bit happier. I hope they make another season.

This episode really touched me since it deals with death. I wonder if Natsume would like to be immortal like Sensei suggested he do. Both of them are getting attached. I wonder if they will ever part.

Sweet episode. Last season and the last two episodes have made me spoiled, since I don't fancy this season. But it's still great.

Yeah, I caught that moment, too - Seemed like Sensei wouldn't be very disappointed if Natsume became immortal so they don't have to part ever. :D But as much as I'd love it, I'm quite sure that Natsume want to age normally with his friends/new family.

But still, one can dream... :))

It was a really sweet episode, though I felt something was slightly off, maybe a little rushed…?
That was a cruel trick; Chizu-san was worried for who knows how many years, burdened with the feeling of guiltiness…
Eh? I didn’t catch when Natsume learned the mermaid’s name…

We always see “immortality” as a matter of power, something that is desired, and do not take into account the impact this could have; see people who we knew aging and be an elder, and after some more years, they eventually die while we are the same as ever, until we are left alone in the world. Centuries would end in the blink of an eye, always alone. That would be truly desolate, right?
I think, then procrastinate.
Therefore, I am.

What a heartwarming episode. I'm glad the obaa-chan was finally able to find peace after all those years. The beginning was also nice, with Natsume spending some time with his two chums. They're nice guys--I kind of hope we get to learn a bit more about them one day...

I also really liked the design for the mermaid in this episode--very different from what I'm used to in other shows and stories.
And she could even fly!!! o_o

Also, ending was heartwarming.

Pretty good episode.

Now, they tackled the life circumstance of being alone due to aging and a pretty mermaid youkai.

The end was certainly heartwarming. :)

Nyanko-sensei suggesting Natsume to be immortal maybe a joke but I guess he just wants to be with him forever. ^^

I think it was more horrible that humans were hunting mermaids for their flesh and blood. My guess is that Sensei was testing Natsume by suggesting eating the mermaid. Once again he just simply watched Natsume's actions at various times in the episode without any visible reaction.

Meh. Stories of mermaids & immortality are told often and I get tired of hearing them sometimes. I can't help thinking this could've been written a little better as well, but...whatever. It's only the second episode I didn't really enjoy out of both seasons so far. Not bad~

Really heartwarming episode. I just wonder how mermaids can be seen by humans in their real form... I thought it's impossible feat for all Youkais. Or mermaids aren't Youkais? Lol. They used to explain everything supernatural with just "Youkai" or "Ayakashi" up to now.

In fact yes. This surprised me a lot. It looks like that Nyanko-sensei is not just an egoistic Ayakashi... I wasn't much sure until now.
Anyways, I love his always-on smile :3 Nyan!

I love mermaids, so I much approved of this episode.

I felt so bad for the old lady, but I'm glad the episode ended on a happy note.

Sasafune played a dirty trick on the grandma. But I would be angry too because Sasafune wanted a friend, and she doesn't want her friend to ask for her blood for immortality. I like how Natsume realized what Nyanko-sensei, or other youkai have to through. Having a longer life is kind of sad, seeing the people you love die yet you have to continue to live on. Although I liked the theme in this episode, it was also the first episode that I almost fell asleep in...it wasn't bad, but it wasn't great like all the other previous episodes.

Can someone, please, explain to me what happen exactly to the mermaid? i mean, why did she disappear like she was never coming back and other youkais, when given their names back, stay pretty much like nothing happen?. I feel like im missing something important here :'c

That has been bugging me since the first season. They always make it seem like the Youkai are dying and passing on whenever he returns their name. IIRC that kid Kirinoha was the only one who didn't disappear after getting back his name. So I think only the Youkai that have got tired of their loneliness choose to die or move on to the afterlife, whichever happens after they disappear. They probably must have waited all this time because their name written in the book of friends was preventing them from moving on.

I found this episode one of the most emotional - when the old lady thought she saw her friend at the station! So heartbreaking.

Episode nor too sad and it really fun, although the latter has the advantage to grow and mature even more the character of Natsume, through the reflections on immortality, and on that of loneliness, proving that even the Youkai, very resemble humans in some ways. I wanted a bit more space for the character of Sasafune, oh well! Quite touching story told during the narration.

That trick comes pretty unexpected. The mermaid lady is so freaking adorable <3

Also I don't really believe that humans actually hunted mermaids for blood and flesh for centuries that it almost made mermaids extinct. First normal humans cannot see youkais (with mermaids being one of the youkai species). Second, if they really did hunt a lot of mermaids, there would be a hell lot of immortal humans walking the earth, which does not seem to be the case.
The Conviction Arc is even better than the Golden Age Arc.

This might be the first time I've seen a mermaid do well on land. And it can turn into a fish. Given it's technically a youkai too, the Japanese mermaid mythos must be a little different.

This episode finally brought into question immortality and the perception of time, which got me thinking. This series has done a great job illustrating the fact that it's not about how much time you spend with someone, it's about what you do with that time. Reiko's life relative to the yokai is incredibly short, but she affected the lives of so many others in that short time she had. Meanwhile the mermaid in this episode, with her immortal lifespan, spent her time doing nothing, and when given the opportunity to affect another she tricked the old woman.
I love this anime so much.
