I like how it ends and it just doesn't feel finished, i'd rather have it that way leading into a second season, than having it climax here then start form a low point again. good stuff, sad to see if gone for a while til we get the spin off and season 2.

Maybe just because she is a tsundere that controls lightning? that's pretty cool in my book.

Yeh it feels incomplete, but that just means that we'll get a seconds season sooner or later. Or maybe it'll somehow continue in Rail Gun.

Anyway, really enjoyed the series. Great animation, funny episodes and awesome music. Also kinda got a Shana vibe from every episode. Biribiri. 9/10

Well she can create and control electromagnetic fields and use this to form a rail gun which is the most coolest thing ever! Plus it's good to see for a change a tsundere that isn't Kugimiya Rie and doesn't fail (*cough* melon *cough*)..

Well, nice ending. Some final farewells and It's shown that life of Index and Touma continues as normal. Many things were left open, though, so I hope for a second season.

I guess I don't understand because it's the first character able to control elsectricity that I don't really care about...I'll also fan flames and say that Felli from Regios and Taiga from Toradora are far better characters than Misaka, if only because there is no depth to her character and that she isn't funny.

I'd agree with this but it isn't surprising. Can anyone name one character in this series that had any sort of depth to them? Even the character the series is named after is barely developed and the main character Touma is the most generic (and thus annoying) male anime hero ever that never changes one bit throughout the series, EVEN AFTER COMPLETELY LOSING HIS MEMORY (maybe he forgot he lost his memory too?).

Misaki is just another member of Touma's harem that after saving, he discarded to fall back in to the shadows with the rest. Like the rest of his harem, it seems her sole purpose in the series is to create situations for Touma to need to rescue her.

I dislike the fact that Touma seems to be able to run at incredible speed some times, yet, sometimes looks like his body is in slowmotion... Specially when he is giving a speech while rushing towards the enemy.

On a side note, that blond bitch plot was hell too stupid.
Like, producers only picked up randomical and overused plot devices, and mixed up with even more over used stuff.

Its already the 10th time i saw a character like Hyouka on a series.
And its always like that.
She is a monster, but she doesn't know, the antagonist throws some brainwash bullshit at her, she goes emo, and tries to sacrifice her self for the ones who become her friends.
then the main character suddenly manages to run his way out of the underground, and miracously arrives at the fight scene to kick the bad guy's ass.

Damn it. Its so overused even power rangers have that.

Needs more seasons to be any good. This one was just a mashup of unrelated or semiunrelated arcs with no true central story. At the end of the episode, there was some sort of bigger picture, but with that, the first season is over.

"To Aru Kagaku no Railgun" will air in Fall 2009. That means that second season of Index will appear in either Summer or Fall 2010.

Bad things about that: long wait for Index, season 2 (of course, Railgun will greately easen the wait for that)

Good things: more novels will be released till the 3rd season ends (there are enough novels to guarantee a 3rd season and enough popularity in Japan to make it worth animating it) so the chances for the 4th season increases, as well as the chances of it being true to the novels.

I never read the novels or anything like that, but I'm curious as to if they ever go further in depth about Touma losing his memory? Perhaps its just the long breaks between each episode that I've seen, but it seems to me that plot served nearly no purpose from the time of occurrence to the end of the season. One would think it would have some sort of significance, but that's pretty much the only thing that bothered me. If anyone knows the answer to this, feel free to post on my page/send me a message. Would greatly appreciate any relief in this regards lol.
Another thing is whatever became of Sherry Cromwell. Probably arrested and all that jazz, but if they could've included a small scene of that taking place, I would also be put at ease... done with complaints.

Yeah, it got a bit repetitive and cheesy. However, the series as a whole overcame that and effectively delivered an interesting story and definitely leaves room to improve on itself. Definitely would catch on however many more season to come.

Somewhat of a biased output here though, I can't wait for the side-story with Misaka. She's my favorite character in the show. A nice, innocent girl who possess great talents. The whole confused romance part was very enjoyable trait about her and I hope there will be more in-depth there. Quite a stereotype character, but great nevertheless. Hyouka is easily my least favorite character with almost the least screentime. Once again a typical "outcast" being that "learns" a life lesson in a short amount of time and then *whoosh*, gone like that.

A few things I would look forward to in a future season(s) would be more resolve about esper vs. magic, perhaps a more defined background story about Touma's memory loss in connection with the rest of the plot, lastly the whole sects and charters and organizational stuff.

I know, I should read the novels... I will when I get around to it. This is pretty much just a rant from a lazy guy >.>

Nothing special in the ending and it will keep me hanging for a long time.

The series is very enjoyable at all aspects. No slight regrets of watching

1. Touma's not an asshole unlike many male protagonists.
2. Action are just fine
3. Harem is enjoyable
4. Comedy okay

I'll be waiting for the continuation of the story. The next season will just be a sidestory so that's different.

Overall I rate it 8.5/10 and closed it to 9/10. I'll put it to a flat 9 or even 9.5 if the ending was more like an ending.

*Sigh* Fukou da...

Such an anti-climactic ending, I'm torn between giving this 7 or 8. The animation was rather nice, while many parts of the story were left unexplained. The soundtrack was memorable even though I take half the year between every few episodes. Second season is pretty much given, considering how they showed Stiyl and the lady. I guess I'll just go with 8, since I'm an high-rater anyway *shrugs*

Are you serious... the actual story emerges in the final episode?! -_____-;;;

meh okay ending,
in the end i'd have to say that the series never reached the same level of epic as episode 02... which is kinda sad. But in the end, the pacing was a lot better in this arc.
I'm pretty sure that if you were to watch this series in order, rather then one at a time, it'd be more enjoyable

That being said, I'm actually excited for the Railgun anime. Not just because of Misaka, but more because the exposition-heavy story would actually fit in that plot. f.y.i. Railgun more follows cases that Kuroko, Misaka, and the rest of Judgement have to deal with. While it's got some cool action scene, its heart is a police/detective story. I personally enjoy the Railgun manga much more than the Index manga.

Your username matches what you say :D
Same opinion here btw, just too lazy to re-word it o.O

Seriously, the next season BETTER just stop introducing and killing off new characters, and focus on the MAIN storyline - Touma losing his memories, Misaka & Teleport girl hunting down criminals, and Accelerator with his impaired power.

Better have less-corny speech too.

I was serious at first until I saw the mini arcs. I was like disappointed after the story went overboard. I didn't expect that the show went on a different direction. I decided to watch this show with my brains out.

The action scenes were a little bit weak too.

The only thing that keeps me from watching this is the characters. Without them, I would have dropped it.

Im not complaining, I liked the series minus the magician/angel mini-arc or whatever that was, but I was wondering, why exactly havent I got bored of Touma with his almighty hand. Its kinda unfair how he owns everyone with a little punch....whatver, hopefully railgun will be better with less fill in characters

Weakest finale boss ever. Almost no character development. We got no answers and it's very open ended. Index had essentially no point and the vampire girl too did nothing. They did nothing with this interesting premise and later fights just feel lackluster. Extremely disappointed with this series. 7/10

Hmm, its a bit hard to say what i actually liked best about it...
its even hard for me to give it a precise rank.

all i can say is that i pretty much enjoyed every episode of it and i think this season is more of a appetizer(/introduction for the world/chars/plot etc.) for the following seasons!

also, i want to add that iam really fired up for the next seasons and side stories to come!

hurry up J.C. Staff!!!

I am seriously disappointed!

The last few episodes felt totally unsubstantial to me.

More Touma falcon punches. More cheesiness.
Well, this is definitely open for a second season.
And the ending bits, to be honest, were the best parts of the episode for me. And Laura Stewart animated is brilliant.

Agree! The ending bits saved the last episode for me. It showed the potential this show has!

Although I would rate some of the episodes with 9/10 (Misaka), overall it is just a 6/10!

It's all in the name. "Biri Biri". Rolls right off the tongue.

Plus, imagine how awesome the sex would be. Electro-gasm?

0_0 .... "Electro-gasm".....you have a point there..... mmh... I think for the sake of Misaka and her sisters I will enhance the rating to 7/10 ^^

There was no final boss and there is no open end. This is just a season end. Nothing more, nothing less.

In fact, the season ending was great if you look at the fact that anime followed novels faihfully. There was no chance for it to get a normal season ending.

It was a decent ending. Everyone is happy at the end after so much conflict.. I was happy with how this series ended up other than the fact that they just keep forgeting about touma losing his memory.. but I guess it was never important than to use for one or two eps..

Not enough MisakaHimegami. Overall the show was a disappointment, I thought it'll be epic after I was impressed by the animation quality of the first few episodes. Then it quickly dropped down to a meaningless ramble of long speeches and "wtf are you doing" moments.
Show should of been called "To Aru Speechu no Touma"

In fact, the season ending was great if you look at the fact that anime followed novels faihfully. There was no chance for it to get a normal season ending.

If by season end you mean just another episode with no significant event happening to signify it being the season ending, then yes.

The source material being shallow does not excuse something based on it from being shallow as well, much less make it good for faithfully following it. They should have taken a heavier hand with the series if the novels are really that bad.

-Take the part after touma lost his memory and until the preview of next season and cut it out as there was no developement in story or characters during that section. make
-Touma actually suffer a bit from losing his memory and have to try harder to hide it from those around him, especially index.
-bring index more in to the story other than being "princess touma needs to rescue so he has some small reason to fight X bad guy" (come on, does the book really view all women like that?).
-The plot the first story arc tried to bring in to the light, don't throw it out and stomp on it for the love of god, instead embrace it.
-Somehow make touma's powers evolve as it gets tiring having the main character do the same thing in fights throughout the series (dodge, hand block, dodge, bam punch in the face, 15 minute speak about how the bad guy is really a good guy doing the wrong things for the right reasons and how he should join touma's side).
-If you're going to introduce a character and have touma go through the trouble of rescuing her, make it be for a reason. actually use them in the series to some degree instead of having them increase his virtual harem count by 1 and then leave the series.

Then maybe the series would be worth of a 7, 8 or maybe even 9.

Im pretty sure that the show is planned to have quite a few seasons....... The show seems to have a lot of complex background and never got to explain any of it........ Nessesarius only appeared a couple of time + The English Purist Church was all but irrelevant, yet there was tiny feeling in my gut when the season ended that told me we have only seen the tip of the iceberg for Toaru....... We shall see.

@Falatorx:
Almost every problem you mentioned is because the anime still didn't progress far enough in the storyline. For a storyline that belongs to "Long Storylines" group, a lot of time is spent on introduction phase. In anime, the introduction episodes last for 20-25 episodes and so does TAMNI.
In novel 7, the first main antagonistic faction* is introduced and a war starts (or is about to start). Almost every antagonist after that either belongs to the antagonistic faction* if they are magicians or one of Esper antagonist factions** (which appear later on).

*spoiler about what faction this is, click on your own risk:

**spoiler about what factions thiese are:

Problems around Touma's memory loss also appear later on and the secret of Imagine Breaker was ALMOST revelaed. While Touma's development still didn't progress a lot, there is still a lot of time for this to happen as the novels don't look like they are ending soon.

While Touma still didn't become more powerful in novels, the other protagonist and the antihero, Accelerator, does lose and gain in powers and develops as a character.

In conclusion, you must keep in mind that TAMNI is a big storyline and that 24 episodes are not enough to start judging the plot itself (the style of the storyline, of course, can be judged), especialy since 20-25 episodes are used for introductions (take Naruto and BLEACH for example... they are both storylines of similiar length (TAMNI still didn't reach that size, but as I said: the end of the storyline is still far, far away) and the plot of thiese shows really started after circa 20 episodes).
Thus, you can't judge the storyline until the story develops further. Style yes, but the plot and its development STILL can't be criticized.

my take on the show is that it was a light hearted, more enjoyable version of shows like fate stay night/s-cryed/busou renkin, no doubt the show was predictable, with the usual monster of the week theme

it was still fun overall but they definitely coulda shortened it, some episodes were pointless, most of these 24 episode types like fate stay night just become dragged on

the only good ones off this genre i can think of is World Destruction, Ashita no Yoichi!, and Amatsuki cause they can keep it short with a balance of comedy, action and good characters

I enjoyed this series a fair bit. Some of the technobabble it spits out just blows my mind. In the bad kind. But then after hearing enough of it, it kind of makes some sort of sense ^^.

Misaka and Index really saved this for me. And Komoe~sensei.

Hyouka at the end though T__T. I kinda guessed that she'd go, I thought maybe at the point on the crane. But no, after the light hearted scene in the hospital with a few laughs, then *bam* BAD END hits you. :(.

I want to see more Accelerator! He looked tasty in the last few eps. Think it was the 2nd ending aswell.

Hmmm... this series started out so good, and then blew it in the middle by focusing on filler characters and plotlines that I couldn't care less about. Sounds like a lot of shounen, except Index and Touma weren't in half the episodes! I gave an 8/10 on average. Hopefully the second season (assuming there is one) will be on target.
