it's good actually to start late, because then you always got something to read and dont have to wait so many weeks for the story to finally move forward

this is true for any manga, in fact i prefer mangas that are finished, but if a manga is good enough and still going then why the hell not?

That's the great thing about One Piece. It looks childish, so it appeals to kid (I watched it with my 9 yo lil bro, though). Despite the fact that actually it has mature and complex issue, anyone, no matter how old, can enjoy it.

Now hurry read it!

The artwork does seem childish, but One Piece deals with alot of realistic and complex issues, like corrupted governaments and the meaning of justice. Thats why I love One Piece so much.

^This. One Piece is something anyone who claims to be a manga/anime enthusiast should at least attempt to read/watch. I actually envy you because now you get to experience 733+ chapters of awesome. I got into One Piece back when the show was on Impel Down. I've been a huge fan of it ever since. I don't think you'll find a better Shonen out there.

Almost every long anime has fillers, One Piece does too. But they are small arcs(it has less than most) and they're interesting.

Agreed, especially the G-8 arc is very good for a filler arc.

But then again, if you really don't like fillers you could just simply skip them.
Here's the filler list I used, which should make that very easy:

its never too late i started watching OP about the time it was on the time skip. well actually i first starting watching it earlier then that but i just couldn't get into it. i made it to the part with buggy the clown and said screw this shit. i honestly hated one piece.

then later i was having trouble finding something i wanted to watch.
so i started forcing myself to watch OP and im glad i did.

went from forcing myself, to meh, to this isnt so bad, to this is actually pretty good, to this show is freaking awesome.

it really grows on you ya know.
then around the punk hazard arc i got bored waiting for each episode so i started reading the manga where the show left off.

so its definitely worth it

If you give it a chance and continue to watch or read, ultimately you will be rewarded. Personally, I like long running series because I get sad when I finish something.

If you read it online then search for decent or good scanlations. Sadly for certain chapters there is none.

This site has most of the good ones from different scanlators.

I wonder if there is anyone other than me who will suggest the OP to watch the Arlong Park, Alabasta arc, Water 7 and the little part before it, and probably even EL?

Because

They just have such amazing scenes that some people must watch animated.

My thoughts exactly !

A friend of mine is a hardcore OP fan and forced me into watch it. I gave up the first time but she pissed me so off about this "OP" stuff that I kept watching the anime (and later reading the manga). And now I thank her every day for keeping talking to me about it ! Best decision ever ! I was a bit depressive back in the day, but OP lighted my mood so much and brought so much joy in my life ! It was so funny, silly and exciting (and so sad near the time-slip :( ). Anyone who really read OP might at least think it's a decent manga. I've never seen anyone tell/write it's a shitty manga after he read at least till Alabasta.

Back to the topic, you should read until Alabasta because, unlike most of OP fans, I really got hooked starting from Alabasta and not Arlong Park.

thanks for answering...

but there are so MANY chapters... what about if this manga never end??? :O
it will, the creator has had an ending planned and confirmed the series had reached its halfway point a few years ago, still a long ways to go but its arguable that one piece is around 60% complete

it will end

Watch it! So you can hear the openings and voice actors. It took me half a year to catch up. And there's no hurry, you don't need to watch 10 episodes everyday.

No, you are absolutely wrong! Believe me, its better to have enjoyed everything now without having to wait for a chapter/ an episode a whole week ... I caught up with the anime when they reached the shore of Punk Hazard, then read the manga from then on and caught up too! But then I couldn't help it and read the manga from the beginning and even rewatched the anime *.*

Of course the current arcs are freaking awesome but the earlier ones when everyone joined are better off watched with no breaks so you would understand every detail about every single character and the meaning behind all of Luffy's adventure :)

I started the series years ago when Thriller was airing. Since then I've rewatched AND reread the series AT LEAST once each year. Great freaking series. Breaks are just AGONIZING, but at least Oda gives us awesome material to make up for it most of the time :P

You have like 10 years to read it so it can't be too late.

I'd highly recommend you to read the manga over watching the anime though, but it sounds like you already want to do that.

Here, this should help: The Story of One Piece in 30 minutes. Sums up everything up to before beginning the New World. Then you just start from the first arc of the New World - Fishman Island. XD

A mere summary that actually misses and leaves out a lot of stuff, I'd add. The part of Skypiea in special, makes this AMV look like it was made by somebody who really, really despised that arc.

well, it's bot too late but i think you won't enjoy it like some one who was reading it from a long time ago.. i think everyone know what i mean
when an important character dies in a series you were watching for a long period of time, you feel so influenced by his/her death (because sentiments were pilled up for a certain character "the character you like") but when you watch/read a series for a short period of time you don't feel anything when a character die, because you didn't take the time to feel what this character felt ... the same goes for anything whether it was a manga, an anime, a normal tv series..etc

it's not too late, but you better start watching or reading one piece from this very moment (btw, i recommend you to watch the anime instead of reading the manga) you can start reading the manga when you finish the anime because the pace is so lame and slow :(

Not too late... Even if it was 1000 chapters you could still catch up to it eventually (especially through manga format, most people read faster as opposed to watching anime episodes that you can't really make them go faster than their actual run-time, although you can skip fillers).

You just have to be patient really. Think of it this way. If you only read 5 chapters a day, it will take you 150 days which is a good bit less than 1/2 a year (183 days). 1/2 a year might sound like a long time, but in context of how long the One Piece story has been going on (17 years about) that's nothing.

Now 5 chapters a day is a slowish pace, as it comes down to less than 100 pages of manga per day, manga is nothing like reading a book and usually reads much faster unless you are just sitting their staring at artwork all day long. I read One Piece chapters individually in like 8 - 10 minutes (30 seconds for every page basically), so 5 chapters approximately is 50 minutes, or less than 1hr of time in your day.

You'll have days where you have much more free time too inevitably. If your on vacation you could be reading 30-40 chapters a day if you spend 6-8 hrs reading One Piece on any given vacation day. 40 x 5 = 200, so you could techincally read 200 chapters (an ungodly amount of manga) in only 5 days worth of time if you are reading all day (and that doesn't even take into account you could read faster than this 10 min per chapter pace, or you might stay up really late and read more that way as well.

If you have a shitton of patience, if you read 1 chapter a day for 3 years, you will have read 1095 chapters in total, which would likely be more than enough to catch you up with One Piece by that time hahaaa. As long as One Piece has been going on, doubtfull it'll end in only a few scant years time.
