So much for SnK selling over 1.5 mil.

Does Kuroko no Baske have more volume releases in a year than other manga? because it sales on the first 2 weeks are 500k or below but it still was above Naruto and Magi on 2013 top manga sales ranking. Or did past volumes sold good and were added to the whole total?

wait were at 10 volumes now?

that means hypothetically the anime got more episodes and went at the same pace as the first season did(6 episodes per volume), theres about close to a 100 episodes worth of content here. fuck white fox get on that, obviously it wont be that high and they will probably adapt at a faster pace for the next season if there is one but still theres so much left to adapt

SnK is a once in a decade hit, like One Piece. Those kinds have the potential to be a classic or guaranteed to be a classic if the authors don't fuck it up.

But from a guy who looks at sales perspective, SnK's sales, popularity globally has proven that it is on par those once in a decade hit series.

I don't think the quality of a specific volume really matter. It's fans will still buy it and will have consistent sales unless it's gone to shit over several volumes over the years making it loss fans by a large or noticeable margin.

Biggest example would be One Piece.

Hmm quite true partially. There are also several other different reason for the drop of sales, especially for the long running manga, you can't say for certain that the quality did indeed dropped. Some people choose to buy specific volumes because it's great or it contains their favorite scenes or whatever. One Piece did hit it's peak in 2011 with 37mil total sales in that year and dropped to only 18mil sales this year, but that's due to all the advertising (from what I heard) done in that year, especially the movie.

One Piece didn't necessarily loses it's fans, just that they choose not to buy the manga, rarely we see people going around saying "I don't want to continue following One Piece" even if the sales did drop, but that's a different case for some other popular manga, especially Fairy Tail.

I do wish that Magi can do better though in the ranking.

Volume 12 came out last October. And there doesn't seem to be any new ones listed for January or February releases so maybe March or April then.

Yes of course there will be other factors. But a manga series won't get a huge jump or drop in sales because of the quality of certain volumes. The most obvious one for bumping sales being anime adaption case in point with SnK. That drop in One Piece sales might also have to do with having competition like SnK, KnB and magi. Which are the recent big hits.

Yeah I know, I didn't mean to imply that since a series like One Piece won't drop it fans unless the mangaka completely destroys the manga and make it so terrible in an unimaginable and absurd way.

I don't know about each volume ranking of Magi but overall it finished at #4 this year beating Naruto and other known names. I think the manga is going strong if anything.

Shingeki being at the top is no surprise. The anime hyped the series so much after all.
It's nice to see Bleach sitting in the top 10. One Punch Man is doing quite well. Nice to see SnS staying in the top list as well!

I know it's a little underwhelming compare to SnK which we would always see most of it's volumes up there on the list, but it sold 2.5mil, outsold everything on the list, so no complain there. I am really eager to look at volume 73's sale, anyone know when it would be published?

In my defense I'll excuse myself saying that hearing countless comments about SnK's sales dropping after anime's end made me a bit too hasty in judgement of question similar to yours.

Anime currently airing would have almost no impact on that. This week's sales are just SnK's current strength and show theoretically still airing wouldn't boost it as much as you seem to think. Remember that volume 11 sold worse despite having anime airing at the time. What matters is, volume 11 came out when anime wasn't over yet so it didn't get the full boost while volume 12 came out well after anime ended so it enjoyed 100% of its boost (and after-anime buzz), therefore having the best week1 sales. Volume 13 and the following will sell similarly to volume 12 despite having no anime as well (unless it gets even more popular).

e2: But well, it ended up selling 1,342,503 first week so it was actually closer to 1.5M, haha, more than I expected. It will surely pass 1.5M next week. (remember I'm counting 327,119 of limited edition)

It's best to see Shingeki as an outlier.

There may be no more tv anime but the limited edition of volume 12 has a new episode.

Not to mention there's a lot of Shingeki-related events in Japan right now. Ichiban Kuji, Lawson Lottery with a Limited Levi Fig as the grand prize. And more.

All that free advertisement is like an anime boost for the manga. That's why volume 1 and 2 got into the top 50. Those are probably new readers curious about what all the December fanfare over Shingeki is.

So yeah, it's becoming more like One Piece as there's usually a One Piece event or promo happening in Japan.

That's the thing with popularity. Once it hits a critical point, it will just keep on going. Shingeki's now so popular that businesses will throw money at Kodansha to hype Shingeki for them.
