Leaning towards rebuild because I heard the series was very complicated and mind-flugging.
Kinda want a simple anime after watching Chaos;head

the series was very good. I hear that the rebuilds were more "rewarding" but the original was good too. The ending episodes and movie were very confusing if you don't understand extreme symbolism.

Im probrably going to watch the movies, i heard 2.0 was a great movie so if I like it enough i'll check out the series.

Don't watch 2.0 before watching the original series. Seriously, don't do. Its greatness is considerably diminished if you haven't watched the previous eva episodes.

You should really watch the series first. Then the rebuilds.

If you want something simple then just don't watch Evangelion. I know that is the last thing I would watch in the mood you are now. Also, I agree that it would be better to watch the series before rebuild.

Both handle things a bit differently. I suggest watching the series first, then the rebuilds. The series has a lot more groundwork, and a lot more character development.
The rebuilds have higher production values, and a few particular characters are fleshed out even more than the series. Problem to that is the other characters weren't given as much development in comparison.
Anyway, watch the series first. There's never too much of a good thing
