Thank you Madhouse for the flawless execution of that final scene. One of my favorite moments from the Chimera Ant Arc.

2 episodes left. Tomorrow there's one and next week we'll finally reach the long-awaited invasion. All my hype.

Wonder how Madhouse will handle all them double-spreads.

Woo Chang-hee better do a good job of animating that episode. Honestly, I have no idea why they didn't put Mori on episode 111.

I'd rather have Mori be put to some of the better events which will happen after that. Woo Chang-hee's definitely been a 'hit' over a 'miss' 9 times out of 10 IMO, as long as the episode has a good pace (not too fast or slow).

One could argue that episode 89 was too fast, with all the dialogue that had to be said.
Plus - there wasn't much they were able to do to disguise the immense lack of animation.
Going by what the team has pulled off in previous episodes, episode 111 shouldn't be problematic.

Fascinating. Some really good character development going on here.

Its pretty sad that Komugi seems to think she has barely any value, but then that's not surprising when you think about her being a blind girl living in a North Korea esq country who's best skill is playing a board game.

I have a bad feeling about what will happen to her during this battle.

I really do think this slow burn that the series has been on up to this point throughout the 100's is as great as the actual invasion. Watching the Hunters slowly but surely piece together their operation whether physically or planning things out and the King's developing relationship with Komugi, and how it's starting to effect the guards (particularly Pouf). Fantastic stuff.

Also, it's interesting how Pitou almost seems supportive of the King here. Telling him to go with his feelings, quite a bit different from Pouf's response.

@ Cresherhsm

I notice you didn't mention episode 91 as part of the "best" episodes up to now. It's a favorite for me in that it kind of sets up the way the King is at this point. As in, who the hell would think the guy who killed other ants and an entire family would care for a human girl? It also makes me appreciate Colt's "They are devils" line. Nothing is quite that simple, Togashi seems to answer.

Dat episode had me rolling for all the good reasons : Pouf's antics straight out of a 70's josei were gold. Can't stop the love, Pouf. Can't stop the love.
Also this,

never seen someone get that tense after being asked their name lmao

Looks like someone is getting developped and there's nothing he can do about it. Just let it happen, Meruem-kun.

PS: Komugi, I get that you're blind and kind of a ditz, but really tho : you definitely could've gotten out of the room or smth.

Yeah, uh... I like Komugi, but she's being a bit overblown. She hasn't done anything but beat Meruem at Gengi. Granted, that's an accomplishment. I don't see how that makes her an amazing character, though. (Actually, I couldn't buy the tears at the end. Is it just me?)

Seeing Meruem get character development is interesting. I actually thought he was going to regret killing that girl too. Such a troll moment. Still, the sudden switch from wanting to kill Komugi to being concerned is a nice depiction of his inner conflict.

Pouf's antics were hilarious. That's melodrama done correctly. xD

Gon & co.'s plan sounds decent. How things will play out is a different story, however.

I've always looked at the little girl scene as a moment of him genuinely doubting himself and then going into a state of denial , trying to convince himself that that is his right as King. Him saving Komugi at the end from the bird, almost as if fate/god or whatever was telling him "no, stop lying to yourself", kind of reaffirms my belief.

Also, Komugi beating him at Gungi isn't just an accomplishment it's pretty freaking huge. Also, her affecting Meruem to the point of him causing self harm is pretty damn allarming. Unless you are talking about why people actually like her character? For me it's more her influence on Meruem that I really appreciate, though I do like her line in episode 105 about betting her life and the Kokoriko scene.

This was easily one of my favorite HxH episodes, btw.

I'm talking about her as a character. I agree that her affect on Meruem is a large contribution to the story, and that her strategic genius is largely the source of said effect. I suppose her fragility has something to do with it too, though.

I really enjoyed the episode too. I just don't get the fanboying/fangirling.

Edit: Fixed a typo.

A lot of people (including me) happen to like her relationship with Meruem, so maybe that has something to do with it. I don't think she's overly popular on her own, though. As in, when she's talked about it's almost invariably either together with Meruem or....well, I can't really mention that just yet.

I wonder if Youpi thinks his two fellow Royal Gurads are losing their minds. LOL!

Especially Pouf, omg that guy is hilariously overdramatic and definitely over thinks as well. Honestly what I like about these episodes is that I actually don't dislike these Royal Guards or Meruem as I did in the beginning. It's interesting to see how these characters are when they're not all intimidating.

I felt bad for the King the moment Komugi asks for his name. It's sad that he doesn't know it. He probably wouldn't care less if he had a name or not, but after meeting Komugi and then being asked about it, it kind of feels important to have a name, an identity, instead of just having the title of "king". I'm really liking his character development. Although a moment just before he was spouting how he's super powerful and who cares if Komugi is great at and only good at Gungi, the next moment he's entirely aware of her fragility. His attitude is already changing, but his mind can't keep up with it.

Decent episode.

Geez Shaiapouf, worry much? I also really like where the match is going to though. VIOLENCE = Power. Just what I had expected from the King. I can't wait to see him fight. I'm surprised he saved Komugi there though.

Decent? Merely Decent? This was probably the best episode in the entire arc so far. Amazing development for the king, and the ending few minutes were some of the most emotional in the whole series - it's like he's almost becoming a father to her.

Wow, i been waiting a while to see this animated. Its been a damn long time since ive read this in the manga.I vaguely remember it.

There was so much build-up as Mereum realized that humans might have the potential to surpass him in some areas and that strength is not necessarily limited to the physical might. Then he suddenly snapped out of it and went on a soapbox about how he was the strongest because he can kill anyone right? It felt like he was lying to himself willingly denying the observations he had just made seconds before. Or in order to preserve his belief in his superiority and right to rule. But then he sees Komugi in trouble and acts automatically. I absolutely love his internal monologues and interactions with the human girl. This is the most complex villain every written.

Take note: Hiro mashima, Masashi Kishimoto, Tite Kubo, and yes even you Eiichiro Oda, this is how you do character building. Fcking brillient only from the minds of that genius tactician Yoshihiro Togashi
