The first volume of German artist Carolin Eckhardt's online comic "Okusama Guten Tag!" was published by Shueisha on Friday. Shueisha serializes Eckhardt's comic in its "Tonari no Young Jump" online magazine. The story follows a newlywed couple, Julia and Takashi. Julia hails from Germany and Takashi is a Japanese bank employee. The volume includes the comic itself, recipes for German food appearing in the series, and Eckhardt's commentaries on German culture. Congratulations I guess. I've seen a couple of german/austrian manga being published here in europe, but I think that's a first for Japan. |
I probably regret this post by now. |

Higashi: I believe this is the first time a German author got a manga volume published in Japan as well. I haven't checked if the series is available here in Germany yet, but I assume the editing should be fairly easy if the author is involved :P Sadly, comic culture in Germany is not as "advanced" as in other European countries like France of Italy. We get lots of different titles translated and I think our market is diverse enough (although it lacks some classics, especially Go Nagai), but our own output can't be compared. PS: Added the manga to the database. |

So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old? I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them? I wonder how long people would put up with this. As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series. |

One thing that perhaps should be mentioned as well is some biography info of the author (as posted in her manga site): 1987年8月28日、ドイツ、ポツダム市生まれ、育つ。 13歳で日本語の勉強を始める。日本で漫画家になることを志す。 ポツダムの高校時代、日本の高校に1年留学し、 卒業後再び日本・札幌に戻り 専門学校札幌マンガ・アニメ学院に入学。 2010年から同学院で職員として勤めながら漫画を描く。 Born on Aug 28 1987 in Potsdam Germany Started to study Japanese at 13. Wanted to become a manga artist in Japan. Went to a Japanese high school as exchange student for one year. After graduating from high school, went back to Sapporo Japan and went into Sapporo Manga/Anime Academy . Started to work as a staff in the academy from 2010 and drew manga outside of work. |

Not bad. I think it's good that they gave her a chance. Shows that even gaijins can make it to become mangaka in Japan if they have enough dedication :) |

There's shoujo manga being sold in Germany by German artists but the art is usually much worse than what's known from Japanese manga. |

That's because German working time per day is restricted to usually 8 hours, which is a lot less than the amount of time Japanese mangaka (have to) put into their manga. Also, the industry framework is completely different. |

I'm just a little south of Germany, and this just gives me more hope of actually releasing my Light Novels (that are still in development) in Japan once. ;) Well, it's also true what they say, though: Money can get you anything, anywhere, anytime. |

Kurogashi said: Read or watch Bakuman and you would get some idea how people get their manga published by Suiseisha. Of course the case with Bakuman is a lot more competitive because the manga magazine in question is Shounen Jump but the process is similar: Take your manga to the publisher or join competition. What was the process like? What made them choose your manga? Or if you refer to "story by" credit, this is really a confusing feature of MAL. I would have preferred "news story provided by" which is much less confusing. Raised about this before, but apparently the matter is considered low priority. |

Well, sadly the manga is only available on japanese, not even on german. As i asked her on her facebooksite, she answered "First my manga has to be sold good in japan, after it can come to germany i think. And i don't think that germans would be interested about reading about german culture." And she gave a few ideas, how she learned japanese^^ |
Trying to watch all available anime series so you won't have to anymore, the list of anime I can recommend is still in progress, tho |

Just checked the official sites, and wow, 27 chapters already. It looks like quite a funny manga. And the art is not that bad, it might be different from our usual manga (especially in the use of screen tones, I think) but that's just all, different. |

Nice to see other people aside from the Japanese working with their manga. I'm not sure about over there, but here German translated manga is really expensive. I am not sure if making their own will make it better, but a really nice sight. Does he make German versions as well though? |

Pretty crazy, grats to her. Would be awesome if this boosts manga/anime popularity here in Germany somehow, so we would get some more stuff from Japan published. Although I highly doubt that. (I always feel like the german anime/manga fandom is made up of 95% yaoi loving fujoshi >_>) |

grandy_UiD said: (I always feel like the german anime/manga fandom is made up of 95% yaoi loving fujoshi >_>) Let me tell you, this is not the case, it just seems this way, because there's a larger quantity of new Yaoi titles in comparison to popular shounen or shoujo titles, but this doesn't mean yaoi adds more volumes in general than other genre. Many yaoi mangas have only one or two volumes, so to keep the fanbase interesed, they need to translate more different titles, because they run out of volumes much faster. We just don't "need" this many new shounen titles, because Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, Conan, Get Backers etc. are still ongoing and deliver new volumes every few months for years now. Example: "Seven Days" is a Boys Love manga with two volumes, this is not uncommon, many BL are very short. This means the publisher needs a "replacement" after just two volumes. "Inu Yasha" has 56 volumes, it took years for this manga to end, actually I think it was over a decade and only after all these years the publisher needs a "replacement". You can rest assured though, there are some manga being published in Germany that don't fall into the category mainstream shounen/shoujo or Boys Love, some I never expected to be published in the first place, but the only reason these manga can be published is thanks to the money the popular titles make and since many girls apparently love BL, the money these manga make also helps publishing manga like Vagabond or Vinland Saga. About the topic: Congratulations! =) Personally, I'd like to read that simply becasue of the reason this manga is about my own culture. I always find it very interesting to see what other people think about the stuff that's completely normal for me, or how other Germans explain to people from other countries how life is like here and what we do. Also, I'd like to apologize that the first thing that came to my mind when I read "Eckhardt's commentaries on German culture" was carneval in Rhineland. That's about the craziest we get. And the most embarrassing. Even other Germans don't understand, I'm... just sorry. |
