| It is a tie between Dorohedoro and Otoyomegatari. I would have added the latter to my favourites section, but I already have another manga by Mori Kaoru up there. Dorohedoro is nearing its completion and it has been a very interesting ride for me - if memory serves, I began following it in 2009. It is a curious creation, being a wild (yet believable) mixture of the grotesque, the humorous and even the humane. Life in the Hole is sometimes hilarious, sometimes brutal, but always interesting. Otoyomegatari, like Emma, is a romanticised vision of life in Central Asia, but how fun it is that the author and I share an interest in Victorian England and the aforementioned region! Long story short, the story is gripping, the characters are quite placid yet likeable enough and the artwork is absolutely godly. |
