So the activity for this week is association football, and I'm afraid most of my complaints from the last episode still stand. However, there was one moment where I did legitimately LOL - a moment in the unscripted club conversation, where one of the VA's forgets another VA's character's name. "Alright, now... which one were you again? You're Koharu!" I also thought the kanji joke preceding it was kinda clever. Yet another 3/5.

It's interesting how the comments are about the ad-lib scripting. It seems that
people are generally happy with the 3DCG animation process. Apparently, the
producer ( Yoshitada Fukuhara / 福原慶匡 ) was correct in saying, (my poor
translation)

"It is certainly difficult to make CG of a human being. However, I actually think
that this time some viewers may not even be aware that it is CG. Our CG
process does not ruin the animation artwork. The result is quite beautiful, so
that even people who approach it with the prejudice that they don't like CG
anime will want to see it. From the visual images in the anime, I think that far
fewer people will dislike it, even though they might have had a bad impression
of 3DCG before now."

Admiring their attempt at this experimentation.

I really liked how the conversation flows nicely, like what you'd find in Triple-A Blockbuster projects, unlike in most anime where you'd face a still for 1-2 seconds and then a stupid ass reaction. CG kinda fixes this problem. My only complain about using CG is that the frame rate is kinda slow, if the models could move faster, I have no complains.

That's my attitude as well. Doing experiments is good. Some experiments yield
results that everybody hates. In this case, the experiment turned out fairly well.

I really like how the conversation flows nicely.

Me too. I think the voice performances are perfect. But I think they should do
some post-processing to adjust the volume since at times the girls are speaking
too softly. It should be easy to do since they have four microphones and four
separate audio tracks to mix.

in most anime where you'd face a still for 1-2 seconds . . . CG kinda
fixes this problem.

Right. Using this method, there are no still frames at all. Also, their body and hair
both keep moving at the same time that their lips move. That's not practical in
conventional anime.

My only complaint about using CG is that the frame rate is kinda slow.

Agreed. Surely it was intentional. I think this time they knew they wouldn't get
a huge audience so they economized on the animation. It was a smart business
decision. For the next series, they should double their animation budget so that
there are a few more "in betweens". Also, girls B, C and D should keep moving a
bit and blinking even while girl A is speaking. After watching the episodes
multiple times, these are the things that I noticed most.

Triple-A Blockbuster projects

Exactly. This past week, Oct 7th to Oct 13th, Volume 7 of the Blu-ray for
Love Live! School Idol Project was at the top of the list for cumulative sales
at 36407 units. Clearly they can spend a lot of money on animation. It would
be ideal to animate the whole series using the animation method of Tesagure
Bukatsumono because of the elaborate dance scenes. At this moment, I am
watching Love Live! and I feel the animation is crude by comparison.

In Love Live!, they already do the dance scenes using 3DCG. But the other parts
are done as conventional 2D anime. As a result, the girls look totally different
and unnatural when they are dancing compared to the other scenes.

Actually I am pretty pleased by the facial expressions and motion animated here. I can tell it is CG and the frame rate can be an issue. Yet I think they really get the expressions vivid enough to catch attention, which is one big reason why I stay with this show.
So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

In an interview in Animate.tv, the producer (福原) said "... I actually think that this
time some viewers may not even be aware that it is CG." The show is so well done
that I can really believe him. I think that this series is a bit of an experiment and I
suspect that their budget was not large. Given the remarkable technical success of
this experiment, I hope that this team will have the chance to make a follow-up
series with a larger budget, allowing a slightly higher frame rate and various other
minor improvements. But I find it hard to put my finger on any single issue that is
a big enough distraction to the point of diminishing the entertainment value.

Not entirely sure about this, some of it is ok but most of it i don't really get the point it's a bit to random at times.
And the set up of the episode was the same as last week more or less.

They should go for a third gdgd Fairies season. I think that was their best work.

I could see your point, but I thought the mixed of 2D and CGI in Love Live was nice.

This anime is like something I never really expected in an anime. It's basically coffee klatsch of four schoolgirls about school clubs. And the third wall is just never there. So weird...
