This was, by far, the best episode of the entire series.
I got so emotional... T^T

I absolutely adore Ushio.

100/5.

*crying again*
Tomoya found himself in the same situation that his father was in when he was a little boy. I guess this will prompt Tomoya to make amends with his father. It would still be VERY hard for me to forgive him.

this was the best episode of the series so far, it could also have made a good ending episode.

everything's so perfect in this episode, i feel they couldn't have done it better. the part where ushio's voice shakes a bit as she says that sanae-san had told her that the only places where she can cry are the bathroom and daddy's arms ... the close of the episode where tomoya starts telling ushio about nagisa, and then breaks off reminiscing of her ... the expression on tomoya's and ushio's faces and their voices are so apt.

I was just rewatching some parts of the show, and damn...this episode is just pure gold.

Bawled my eyes out the first time I saw this, when Ushio breaks down in Tomoya's arms. Actually, everything after where Ushio calls Tomoya "papa" for the first time is so emotionally charged that still I tear up now. The seiyuu and animation really nail the emotions so well. It's cool how I cried a lot harder this episode than during Nagisa's death, despite the fact that episode 16 was a lot more tragic, whereas this one was happy. But holy hell, the catharsis depicted here is just so powerful. As Tomoya and Ushio, who have wanted to talk for years but were unable to, release all their pent up feelings in their tears, my own tears just started flowing like a flood from a burst dam.

This has got to be the best episode of the entire series--and one of my favorites out of all the animes I've seen. The last scenes really are among the most immensely moving scenes ever animated. 5/5 does not do this episode justice.

Now, if only the ED wasn't so freaking upbeat, this would be completely perfect.

Ya know, I can see how some people wouldn't like Clannad - for me, I like it, but it isn't my favorite piece of Key animation. But this episode is so "real," like you said. There's no arm-twisting - the moments in this episode are genuine and evoke genuine emotions. It's about as powerful and moving as any piece of animation I've seen.

Yup, not even Matranga could ruin this episode. I still cried in the same 2 spots even though I could see it coming. However, every time I watch the episode, the flashbacks of Naoyuki continue to impress me more each time.

I was on the verge of tears again throughout the entire episode, but the moment that really got me was when she basically said "It was the first toy you got me... Daddy."

And thus, the dams burst. Talking about Nagisa on the train got me as well.

I spent pretty much the whole episode bawling. What a nice way to start the day... (I watched this at 7:30am) Anyway, it was so happy and sad at the same time. I mean, I just don't know how to describe it but I'm just happy Tomoya realized he does have something worth living for. And what a "something" it is! Ushio is just the cutest thing ever.

Easy way to make a dude cry? Show them this episode of Clannad.

Feelings of a distant dad revealed + love for a cute daughter = make a man weep

It wouldn't have any context, they'd have to watch the whole series.

Best episode of AS by far. Wonderfully scripted.

First I kind of hated how Tomoya was acting towards Ushio, all cold and indifferent.
Even if he still suffered from Nagisa's death, it's not easy to forgive. All harsh feeling kinda melted away though, as he finally realized it himself and opened up to Ushio. That was one of the most heartbreaking scenes I've ever seen and of course that resulted in many wet napkins.

Thank you, Clannad.

Tomoya is a fairly self indulgent, self pitying, good for little twirp through most of Clannad. But in this episode he takes it to such a level that damn near crosses the line of unforgivable. You do NOT treat a 5 year old child like that.

That said... I'm a 46 year old grown man with three grown daughters, three grandchildren... and I was bawling like a baby by the time the train "Let me tell you about mommy" scene came around.

There should be laws against making shows like that! Or at least some sort of warning on the package! "Warning, the surgeon general has determined that Episode 18 of Clannad After Story is dangerous to your emotional state; if you watch this show insure there are plenty of kleenex handy."

But now I started crying at the same moment Ushio did, and couldn't stop since... and we still have 6 episodes to go... this series is just so incredibly touching... Why haven't I watched it earlier?

Yeah indeed...
I thought that the drama ended when Ushio Hugged her dad like that and started crying.
But inside of me i saw that as a happy moment. Like the things will only get better now, no more tears.

But Tomoya crying for Nagisa was heartbreaking...
Its not about the future anymore. It was about a sad past that cant be undone. The person that changed him, made him love, think, act and become the person he is now doesnt exist anymore... I really thought that the tears Tomoya shed there were pretty unique and "true" if you can get what i mean.

By the way dont tell me that Nagisa is living through Ushio or at Tomoya heart or something. A dead person cant be replaced by anyone and Tomoya Will ALWAYS have a huge unfilled gap in his heart that Ushio and all his friends will never manage to fill.

that is sooooo right ..sniff sniff!

There were many eye-watering scenes in this episode but, that train scene where Tomoya finally cried while trying to describe Nagisa, that was overkill. I cried like a little kid. It was refreshing!

Clannad, the shit I talked before I actually watched it. I'm glad I went in with no expectations.

I've never cried more in my life than when I watched this episode, which is really something coming from an asshole like me. If this episode doesn't make you cry, than you have no soul. :P

In all honesty though, it was brilliant. Clannd ~ AS ~ is by far the best anime I've seen, and I don't think that will change any time soon.
