| Decent pilot episode. I don't think it was a slow start considering, they did a complete time jump in one single episode and are half aware of their dire conditions. It's been a while I've seen realistic portrayal of war and facts around war. |

| In 1979, I went to see a movie entitled, THE FINAL COUNTDOWN. It was about the USS Nimitz entering a strange electrical storm in the Pacific, and then time traveling back to the morning of Dec 7, 1941. Zipang so much reminds me of this. It looks like it's going to be one heck of a ride! |
| I don't think I've every seen an anime so clearly layout the the main theme and ideas of the show so well in just one episode. It does help that the ideas involve were pressing questions for Japan in 2004 and even today in 2019. There's still the potential this anime messes everything up, but I would be extremely shocked if that was the case. |
| Character introduction, theme exposition and the main character's motivation, all laid out in this rather well done in the first ep. It's a good introduction to the show, now we'll see how this goes out... The OP and ED are just what you'd expect from an early 2000s anime. The visuals of the OP are just scenes taken from the eps and the ED is just that typical image album kind of outro, but the songs themselves are nice, particularly the OP. |

| Very dry first episode, although taking a whole episode for prolouge isn't bad. The water looks pretty bad, which seem like a big problem for a series about a ship. I looked up for the moon phase for June 4, 1942 and it seems that they got that detail right. |
