Not that I'm complaining or anything--I love Megatokyo to death. But it's an OEL comic strip, so why is it here on MyAnimeList?

Maybe I'm just not familiar enough with MAL's policy of what to include?

Because for some reason we allow OEL, hence the "Type: OEL" on the page.

Well, the rules state that while the site does not accept doujinshi that's fanwork of other published material, the site will accept doujinshi with original material. Technically, this counts under the latter definition. The fact that Megatokyo tries to incorporate the manga comic style sealed the deal.

Wat. It's a webcomic. How can a webcomic be considered an OEL?

OEL means Original English Language. MegaTokyo was originally created in English. Hence, it can be considered as an OEL series.

It's also been published in 5 printed volumes (so far) by CMX and Dark Horse Books.

It's also published in Japanese, in Japan and was one of the top 50 manga (by sales numbers) in the US in 2007.

Yeah. It's publishing that seals the deal, usually. Note that a lot of the manga-styled webcomics out there aren't on here with the exception of the one's that are published by actual graphic novel publishers.
