Also if he say his partner while wearing the eye gadget why would he keep it on. the brain dead sister is still in the house for some reason. im with alice idk wtf is going on. Alice must be pissing her pants. WTF JUST HAPPENED! so is lain real or not? I did like the alice and lain scene though. Truly the only close friends in this show. Also people saying they get it yeaaaa I call BS. This show is not clear at all. Just hints here and there.

At least it got interesting once Arisu went to visit Lain at her house! Then the confrontation with that God guy was pretty cool. I wonder how they'll leave things off in the final episode? ★3/5

Damn, I love this show. It's so creepy at times that it could almost be filed under horror. I was going to save the last episode for tonight after I take care of some things, but I don't know if I can wait.

Oh, re: the alien's red and green sweater -- I thought it was a reference to Freddy Kreuger, who can appear in people's dreams...

Lain has surpassed the self-proclaimed god. He created her but he never thought that she would eclipse and outwit him. He said he no longer had a need for a body, something that Lain had. He had no physical presence or power in the real world, he's limited to the Wired.

I think it's sweet that Lain did everything she could to restore Arisu's reputation in everyone's mind but Arisu still remembers.

Apparently lain is talking to the virtual world that's being represented by the person claiming to be god. Lain however argues that that virtual world is anything but god like as it is also just a creation which first needed to be created. It means the virtual world isn't omnipotent either.

So even God has a God? What if that God also has a God?
What if every God has a God who is the Gods God then? Does the Gods God also has a God? Is God vegan?

hmm i hope they answer all these question in the next episode.

Been watching through this series for the first time. I was really struck by this episode. I thought it was an even stronger conclusion than the actual finale. Arisu traveling into Lain's abandoned and devastated house was a real highlight of the series. Really show cased what they've always been good at, creating an oppressive techno phobic atmosphere. I also thought "God" turning into a Cronenbergian monster when he entered the human world was really cool.

Didn't take a lot to change Lain's mind. All Alice basically said was that she's afraid of losing her body. No discussion or anything, just instantaneous change of heart with Lain. Kinda anti-climactic

Hmm so I'm about to enter this place that looks like has passed through a murder or two, also theres seems to some crazy and heavy thing going on and shit has 100% chance of going down in the next hour or so, not to mention it looks dirtier and messier than any street I had walked till now BUT OH LET ME TAKE MY SHOES OFF FIRST OK

Cough, that aside, ever since they mentioned Lain beign an app, or software, I started to think like what if everyone was a somebody.exe too, I won't dare to doubt anything more of this show tbh, but now I'm not really sure anymore.

Also, since I-dont-know-when Arisu started to seem, to me, that she would have that role of "slapping some common sense into you", with the 'even if you/we are apps/not real, what difference does it makes, we can still keep living' lines, or something like that. But I didn't thougth she would have so little time to do that lmao

Anyway, I'm happy we finally got rid of Eiri/"God"/seminude smug guy
That guy pisses me off for real

Best episode so far :>

"Raise the collective unconscious at a conscious level"?
God dammit... I love how this series manages to transmit certain data.
"All humans were once connected" This is very philosophical and needs a good analysis.
In addition, is now being questioned about the "substitute god" of Eiri Masami.
Finally I understand why many people treat this series as a work worth seeing, complex and one that can be able to think and interpret on his own.
Honestly, I think that seeing it more than once will be necessary. And not because I does not understand it, but to see the series from another point of view.

Even if Arisu saw Lain's house which in a total mess, she still removed her shoes before going inside. I'm glad that Arisu visited her and talked to her even if she doesn't know what's really going on. Will Lain's "sister" still regain her conciousness? RIP to Karl and his partner. Their "client" just used them and maybe pretending to have positive motives.

^ I also noticed the part where Arisu was so polite that she still took off her shoes despite seeing how filthy the place was lmao

That part where Arisu had Lain put her hand on her chest to feel her heartbeat was a defining moment for me in the series. I might be missing the mark in this but for me, that was the moment Lain had realized what it really means to be a human; not in a scientific way like what her creator thinks but rather in an abstract sense. Having a perspective where you believe that everything can be explained rationally using words and equations can take away the beauty from some things like how one's emotions being dismissed as mere brain impulses or you just being a brain piloting a machine made of flesh and bones simply just doesn't give it justice. There are concepts in life that can't be explained but they can still be felt and experienced and that's what makes it meaningful.

Eiri was so sure that he was and omniscient and omnipotent being in his own world that he thought that he could explain everything like how he did with his own creations but it turns out that he couldn't even answer the questions regarding his own existence. His hubris was the cause of his existential crisis and his eventual downfall and that was a pretty amusing turn of events. I wonder how things will go in the last episode.

This episode's beginning gave me an identity crisis...

Other than that, it's nice to have some real answers. It looks like Lain really is a program created by Eiri, but she managed to become her own person.
Apparently, the other versions of her weren't the real Lain but versions of her created by Eiri, as an ideal of some sort. (But if I'm not mistaken, it is quite disappointing... Finding out interesting facets of Lain, both as Wired and Creepy Lain, actually aren't at all parts of the real Lain is taking away lots of her character's layers. I hope the last episode will solve that in some way. Don't get me wrong, I love Lain's character the way it is now ! Some scenes in this episode were very iconic. But I don't know, it feels a bit too easy for the arc with the other versions of her to be just solved by "Oh, actually that wasn't her lol".)
What confuses me though is Lain's smile in the end of last episode. That wasn't her regular smile, but now it isn't brought up ? Weird.
Overall I don't really know what to think. On one hand it looks like we received the most important answers, but on the other hand it confuses me to see them being given to us just like that considering how anyone who completed the show apparently still has issues understanding it.
It seems too easy actually... And there's still one episode left.
Please don't destroy my brain little show, I need it.

It finally makes sense to me.

As I previously said in layer/episode 11, this series has a lot of Gnostic themes.
The fake creator god (called Demiurge in Gnostic thought) is unaware of the real God, the source of all.

Once Lain gives him the truth he loses it, because he's ego personified. He wants to be the only God there is even tho he never was one. He existed just because he made other people worship him.

Can't wait for the final episode.

Oh boy, the series has reached its climax. Well... at cost of Alice's sanity but at least, most of the plot points have been cleared up.

Highly interesting episode. Though it was already hinted before, Masami's motivation finally came to the surface and man, the Evangelion vibes I got couldn't have felt stronger.
So, he basically developed a sense of duty related to make all humanity "evolve" to its next stage and in order to achieve that, he wants all people's consciousness to merge into one and only connected entity by leaving the restrictions of their physical bodies behind. And considering his knowledge about the Wired and the changes made to Protocol 7's code, he started considering himself as a "God" and developed a whole complex around that term.
Well... he can indeed be considered a God in the Wired but he might not be as omnipotent as he thinks and in that regard, I found the argument Lain gave to counter his god complex rather interesting. I mean, Masami was just another human being at the beginning so in a sense, all the things he has done may have been led by a superior force and his sole existence may, as well, just be another tool in this force's schemes. A truly intriguing assumption, all things considered.

Now on the other hand, Lain's earlier explanation about the existence of her other personas being basically the representations of how other people perceive her felt kinda forced if I'm honest. I think it was unnecessary and as someone above me said, this revelation takes away a lot from Lain's character layers and that's kinda disappointing in a sense.

Anyways, there's one more episode left so I'm particularly looking forward to seeing how things will wrap up... if they do, that is.

If I got it right, there is no "original" Lain, she only exists in people's minds, that's why there are multiple different Lains, for how different people see Lain

Well fuck guess all humans except Arisu may die if Lain doesn't do anything. Huh so Eiri's an acting god. Then would they reveal the actual God who existed before the creation of the Wired.
I liked this dialogue where Lain says that there's no other Lain's. She simply exists in everyone's mind.

I sorta get it, the fake God Eiri try to use the theory of human consciousness to create an Evangelion like human connection thingy but then got refuted heavily back Lain that he is nothing without the past theory and past theory cannot be a thing without a real God create that human. Pretty interesting way to refute his God complex ego ass.
