Interestingly enough I was 14 When I first watched the series back in 1999. 15 Years have passed and each time I saw the series (original TV Series) I grew to understand a new layer of it and what it was about. So for me the series was always growing up so to speak as I was.

When I saw the final episode it wasn't for many years till I understood it's meaning and when I saw the information about what Rebuild was aiming to do.. it made me somewhat nervous.

I kept wondering, "Could all the things I once thought be true about this series be wrong or right.." Rebuild along with other goals was to re-tell the plot to the Eva series in a more understandable and accessible manner so I knew that a lot of things I believed I once Knew would either be proven correct or incorrect.

To my delight, all that I believed to be true was confirmed (in the first 2 installments). Cut to the 3rd installment of Rebuild and I find that this is beginning to spread a new web of questions and hidden theology/messages and plots etc.

My only problem with 3.33 is that there is a clear lack of effort to develop the psychological aspect and connection to each character so it is less multi-layered than the original masterpieces and I found that the 2 part series Death n Rebirth + End of Eva were ranked somewhere in between all this.. Not as well developed as in the original but more developed than in the Rebuilds.

So with all this in mind.. regarding 4.44... What I would expect to see as the outcome is a fairly transparent and direct narrative without very much effort to build up that familiar connection to characters as we were groomed to expect from the original series.

I do think it will be good and will wrap up the series bringing us in a full rotation back to where it all began from.. as to what that rebooting of humanity entails and what is included.. we can only wait and see. I would expect that Shinji will still end up with Auska in that classical Adam n Eve situation OR we would cut to Shinji in a perfect world without the Angles or Eva with his Mother and Father both still Alive and friends at school etc.. I mean the concept being that it would be bent to some variation of a "perfect" world through the eyes of Shinji.

Skipping ahead 14 years as 3.33 did makes it difficult to feel I was watching the same film as even the attitudes of the characters towards one another had changed, nothing was the same aside from his relationship with his Father and Auska.

One thing can be certain and that is .. we will see an attempt at a 5th impact successful or not idk..based on the title and mentioned katakana meanings referenced in a previous reply.. we will likely see mankind reboot.

I anticipate it will be good to watch.. but not as good as the previous works and will be far less dense in terms of the quality of characters and sub plots it will be a direct narrative and entertaining with a strong sense of closure at the end.

Just my thoughts :)

3.3 was indeed quite the disappointment while 1.1. and 2.2 seemed to excite me quite decently. Enough other anime and movies to fill my time with in the meantime.

And imo, EoE was not the masterpiece but it did a better job than epi's 25-26, hehe..

But the wind... is ever so softly weeping.

Been living in Japan the past year and a half or so, the longer it gets delayed the better for me as I'm trying to get my Japanese as good as possible to fully enjoy it at a midnight theater screening! Realistically I think we're looking at the end of the year, perhaps a late December release.

It seems to be a poster. I found it from twitter so if its confirmed is debatable, but it seems genuine to me.

Whoa, so it's still gonna take months for the final movie to come out? I've just finished the tv series + EoE, so I wanted to watch the movies now. I'll probably put it on hold until the movie is about to be released so that I don't have to watch it all again just to recall what happened exactly.

The first 2 movies are really recaps of the series, with way better animation, so i would really advice watching them. the 3rd sucked, and had a lot of information, so i guess you can wait on that one.

The hold up is that Anno is directing Shin Gojira (Godzilla Resurgence), which will be released July 29, 2016. So Eva will likely be released the end of this year or next year.

Edit: The 2015 hold up was for the live action Attack on Titan films. AoT had and Godzilla is having Sagisu and Higuchi working on them as well. They keep getting sidetracked by tokusatsu movies!
