I'm completely new to this one, so have nothing to compare it to in regard to previous versions.

So far, I like it.
To me, the art fits the story and characters.
The VAs all seem appropriate.

So, a girl came out to his town and stayed awhile, got all involved with him, and then suddenly moved back to Tokyo and Dear Johned him with a letter and no explanation, and refuses all attempts at contact since?

Hmm.
I can understand those who think he should forget about her.
Because that's a crappy way to treat someone, and does not speak well of her; it makes it look like she just used him as a diversion, played with his affections for the enjoyment during her stay there.

I can also understand his wanting to hear her say it to his face, that she doesn't want any further involvement, given no sign that she was displeased with him while she was in his hometown.

Of course, I could be totally wrong about some of this, because it was never said straight out that this is what occurred. But... it sure seemed like this is what went down to me.

He needs closure, one way or another, so he can get on with his life.
Because he was totally serious about his involvement with her, and his impression seems to be that she was too.

For what it's worth, the audiovisuals are actually nice. Some of the shading and character designs made me think of either Casshern Sins or Heartcatch Precure, but as it turns out, some of the art and animation staff did work on one or both, so that's interesting. That aside, I'm absolutely dreading the drama later on, if evident from anything made from Kouji Seo, but for now the show is fine.

I still can't believe I'm watching Kimi no Iru Machi...

there's something about this anime that makes me feel so gloomy and melancholy, but in the end I just can't stop watching it
