Damn it was pretty hard watching Miyata take a beating.I think they overexaggerated the "Bloody Cross" though (not showing it the first time it was used), both in the anime and manga.

Good build-up though, however I don't think this fight will last past next episode, at the longest the middle of the fourth episode.

As the other people said, Awesome. Can`t wait for the next episode.
But I think I am the only one that hate the soundtrack for the second season :<
It is good, but it doesn't fit at all to this show. At least that is my opinion:e

Oh well, the fight and the animation was top notch anyway, 5/5

Indeed... I noticed a decrease in animation quality in the beginning but, fortunately, it didn't go on like it.

No, you're not alone on that. I, too, think this soundtrack not only fails, but it's not for this show. Also, considering it doesn't fit in at all, it's a crime to make it stand out so much >.<

BUT, other than that, the episode was awesome! >w<

I don't like the music too much either. As for the episode it was really good, I'm looking forward to the conclusion of this match.

I'm not liking the soundtrack so much, it's much more generic and less energetic than the previous series or the movies.

Is it just me or were the character designs less angular and stylized in the other iterations. I remember the musculature being more defined and much more realistic than they seem to be now. Especially in the fights, where it even looks like the production value isn't as high as it used to be. Maybe they just evened it out so there wouldn't be such a disparity between the training and fighting aspects of the show. Also, it feel like they have really taken cues from Kaiji for the worse. I don't remember the dialogue being so corny.

Overall, predictable, but not bad. 3/5.

The dialog is the same as it's always been. It's all taken from the manga.

Can't really speak for the animation, since I don't pay attention to that kind of thing, but it seemed more like an upgrade. How long has it been since you watched the first season?

Might explain it. The movies had considerably higher production values than the series, iirc.

Perhaps. I'm no expert, but to me, Miyata's whole upper body just seemed like blocks put together (in certain frames). Other times, it wasn't too bad.

Either way, I liked the episode. Not much dilly dallying around like in other sport anime shows.

I'm glad they are jumping right into the action, unlike many other series that the first few episodes are dedicated to 're-introducing' the characters.

I think that Miyata is going to loose though. At the end he was coughing up blood, that is never a good sign. I think that Ippo is going to have to train super hard to be able to finally avenge him.
I'm back.

If they put ANY fillers into this anime ill be upset... I mean they have 0 reason to. season 1-3, The movie, the ova only did roughly 330 or so chapters. The manga is at 839.... so i dont think there will be any fillers :)

I tend to block out shitty music without even knowing it, I honestly have not even noticed or paid attention to it.

As far as the episode itself goes, the fights are still badass and the whole episode kept me on my toes, fuckin' love this series.

True on the music, character design and fight. It's all under the quality of the first series (I just watched the full series plus movie and OVA in three weeks, that is since the beginning of 2009 till today), except for the dialogues that haven't changed one bit since it's taken from the manga as naikou mentionned. Still, I'm pretty sure that I'll come to love the music in some episodes, but the art and animation really hurt, especially since it's weaker than the first series released nine years ago (a bit the same as Gunslinger Girl, but that didn't prevent me from loving the second season too). The direction is strange, I'm still trying to understand how it has evolved but I'm not sure it improved. Still a great episode, even with all the problems that I mentionned.

In every age, in every place, the deeds of men remain the same.

So far so good, it's not the regular at the last minute miracle punch. This is actually a very smart fight. (Sorry Ippo-kun) Can't complain about the animation, I feel this series received a nice upgrade on that department, we also got to see some blood on the mat as well instead of just a dirty swollen face. Can't wait to see how this fight will end. xD

This is a high level, entertaining battle. Nothing simple or easy is gonna come for Miyata in this fight. And he is PISSED! I'm looking forward to the comeback. on this one. By the way, was I the only one terribly embarrassed by Ippo's damn cheering. He's your rival for God's sake! Ippo has no idea how to play anything cool.

Something really does seem odd about Ippo in this season, I knew that he was kind of obsessed with Miyata, but not to these extremes. I hope that get toned down soon.

But regarding the fight, the animation was pretty good, and that Bloody Cross was unexpected, Miyata is having a tough time so far, I hope he picks himself up together.
