That was an epic series, I heard the manga still continues after the Pachinko arc, it would be awesome if there will be a season 3.

Mod Edit: Descriptive title.

There was a season three planned, but after reading this thread the director over at Madhouse decided to cancel it.

Can anyone say how successful Season 2 was in terms of ratings and sales, and if it is reasonable to expect Season 3?

We did get Season 3 of Hajime no Ippo this year.

its not that actually, after Kaiji Pachinko arc it went into that japanese chess game with Ron and stuff...so no more psychological games which makes kaiji special :(

I read somewhere in the internet that it all depends on the live
drama (the movie) if they release a third movie, they may make
the anime... i gotta say, the movies suck, i personally didn't like
them.

There's 4 parts to the Kaiji manga with each season covering one part. 3 parts are finished and the last part is in the works, so yes they could make a sequel. I've read the manga and there's still plenty of psychological games going on, no idea what CMPunk is talking about. Kaiji doesn't really make much money from sales from the anime, they make their money from the live adaptation movies.

considering that the soundtrack composer is in jail for marijuana I doubt we will see anything anytime soon.

I really would like to see a new season of Kaiji. It needs to happen, along with a sequel to One Outs as well.

IIRC, the first and second season have very shitty DVD/BD sales but apparently had some good TV ratings so I guess there is a chance.

A 3rd season would probably be super boring since it would probably be just a long ass mahjong game, so just be happy with what we've got.

Honestly, 17 Steps (the name for the special one-on-one variant of Mahjong that dominates Part 3) is one of my favorite arcs from Kaiji. It *does* last an incredibly long time (about 120 chapters) but thanks to it being split up in multiple rounds & perhaps because I got to consume it at my own pace (rather than the Pachinko arc, which I've only seen animated), it never felt like it drag. Bridge of Life arc is my favorite Kaiji arc but this is up there with E-Cards & Chinchiro. I probably prefer those two but still, I'd love to see it animated.

Regardless, I came in to post that some of part 3 *has* been adapted, just not as an anime. In Japan they apparently have these pachinko machines with tv's in them. So if you do you good enough or something those screen will play videos & they had a few Kaiji-themed ones. One of them is part 3, type in "Kaiji mahjong" into youtube & it should come up as the first video (it'll be labled 17 Steps with English subtitles or something, should be about five minutes long). I will warn you, that video covers the entire arc in snippets, so it'll come with plenty of spoilers for part 3 so I'd probably recommend not watching it if you ever plan to check out the manga. But it does seem like it might be the most we ever see it animated.

so madhouse gave us 2 season of kaiji , if you were a fan of fokamoto manga , then you pretty much have watched it in kaiji season 2 there was many hints for season 3 , the biggest hint ofcourse was sakazaki ugly daughter , who constantly appear , especially in the last episode , where she accedently saw kaiji in his way to his nakama . So what the fuck ? It has been 5 years , we have not heard any news , when i was watching kaiji 2 i was like 100% sure we will get an anime for the rest of the manga not to mention Saikyou Densetsu Kurosawa manga , as kurosawa appears in the OP , the manga need to get an anime adaption ASAP

interestingly enough, season 2 happened right after NTV bought madhouse
i don't think a s3 is completely out of the question..

even between the first and second seasons there was a long break

Probably won't happen. For starters there are no more Kaiji movies? unless I'm mistaken.

How about no? The ending to season 2 was great, if anything their should be an Akagi season 2 before Kaiji season 3.

They'll never adapt that amazing Mahjong arc :(

I would also love if they adapted TEN and Strongest Man Kurosawa aswell, these two are FKMT best manga series in my opinion.

Shaman King got a remake after 19 years.
Bleach got season 2 after 10 years.
Devil is Part-Timer got season 2 after 9 years.

If it's going to come out, it HAS to happen now!! It's lucky 777!

I bet there will be one inevitably. Kaiji is easily among the top-100 best selling manga ever, and the series is still going and is still popular, so it's not like there's no audience for it.
