I've said it before but I really like Hikki's character. He's perceptive, how he reacts to all the situations with Yui. I liked how he knew Yui was going to confess and cut her off and cut of Yukino at the end. His stare at the car was kind of bad ass and he always has those good inner monologue's.

Seriously what's up with the older sister, she knew Hiki got hit with that car and she offers him a lift in it. She clearly knows what she's doing and is fake, which Hiki noticed when he first saw her at the shopping mall.

This episode had so much Yui in it and that's why I loved it so much;D Komachi is such a handy sister.

How could the older yukinoshita forget her name? It is so easy,Yuihagama Yui...I love how smartly Hikigaya handles situations and he likes himself too...I am not alone.

The older sister actually didn't even really care for Yui. She seems to be completely serious about Hikigaya matching up with Yukino, so as far as she was concerned(I suppose until Yui told her how she felt about Yukino) she was her sister's love rival. Thus, the reason why she never seems to have a problem remembering the names of everybody, except for Yui.

good thing he can cut off yuki like that.. phone was a lifesaver.. it would've been the end of hikki if that confession came out :D just after saying "80% of boys spend their lifes thinking of wether she likes me, but then saying.. why would she?" hikki would've have to take back that line and reconsider his lifestyle. whooah! that would be bad!! :p

You were deceived. Much like how Hachiman deluded himself.

I was feeling sorry for Yukino in this episode. Her absence throughout this episode makes it seem like she is completely alone while Yui and Hachiman was talking to her sister.

This. However as someone pointed out, Hachiman actually cared (which is definitely nice to see) and bought Panda thing for her - then sadly made obsolete as he shuns her for not fulfilling his ideal once they see each other again.
Also Yukino was living in her sister's shadow just as I had suspected several episodes ago.

Regarding why he didn't let Yui finish her confession, I think it was more to do with him being a nice guy and maybe a little bit out of self interest.
If I were him, I would never be able to like Yui, in fact I would probably loathe people like her - Drifters, the so called Sheep - the ones that don't really like themselves and the ones that change themselves/wear a new skin each time they move between groups. Yui in particular seems desperate, and somewhat dependant on Hachiman IMO. So from what I can see, Hachiman does not particularly like Yui. However, being the observant nice guy he is, he treats her kindly but distantly (though granted he does end up pampering her a bit), never wanting their relationship to progress. On the other hand, the self interest part, he doesn't really want their relationship to change - because it's nice knowing that there's someone that likes you and also depending on you.
I don't think people realise the difference between someone saying that they like you and someone acting like they like you. With the latter you can ignore it, but with the former there must be a response, and any response you give will change the relationship, which was what Hachiman was trying to avoid.

The fall of Hachiman - refers to how he is slowly realising how much of a hypocrite he is becoming and therefore despises himself for that. That's what human relations do to people who once had very strong, and unique perspectives, though of course the realisation only happens if they actually care.

You're right! But I#m still confuse, because Yui said "That brings back memories" when they came looking the store at the festival.. Why would it bring back memories back for her..?
Well.. the fackt that 8man bought it, is a hint.. I guess :D

No, he would have still saved this situation: he would have pretended that Yui's confession is a "good joke" and just laugh. Then all would depend on her decision: play along or cry?

Hachiman seeing Yukino at the top of the stairs for the first time after summer was great (meaning: sad).

No, Yui's line wasn't significant in the least, she was referring to the Power Rangers thing. It was basically saying 'How nostalgic!' to seeing a Dragon Ball Z merchandise.
But yes, Hachiman bought the Panda one, hinting at his relationship with Yukino.

I don't think Hachiman gets disappointed in other people.

He is supremely self-centric. He internalizes everything; his "I hate nice girls" speech was less about how he actually hates nice girls and more about how he hates the effect they can have on him. His biggest concern with Yui was that she was being friendly towards him out of a sense of obligation, and his internal monologues make it clear that he feels he acted in her best interest by releasing her from that obligation.

I'm reminded of the mall episode, when Hachiman talks about ideals. Ideals are ideals, they aren't reality. He could spot Haruno's facade because it was the sort of thing he'd be suspicious of, but he completely overlooks Yukino's facade because it is the sort of thing that he would want to trust. The ideal of a person who will always tell you the truth without regard to your feelings appeals to Hachiman because there is zero chance of misunderstanding such a person.

But even a glance, objectively, at that kind of ideal wouldn't hold up to reality; it's obvious that everyone lies. And this time, the misunderstanding doesn't stem from something beyond his control (with Yui, he didn't know it was her dog) but rather from an ideal that he created and then accepted blindly. He didn't get the wrong idea from someone else, he got the wrong idea from himself--and that's why the self-loathing has entered the picture for the first time.

The only thing I don't quite get is why he bought it in the first place. If he didn't actually know that Yukino was inside the car back then, would he have given it as a gift of some sort? Or...he actually likes those kind of stuff, and he's going to keep it. lol

I doubt it was a confession it's obvious she loves him but for the moment she is to shy to tell him that and it didn't seem like the right moment for a confession.
The Hikki should have noticed by now that Yui has feelings for him he might be a loner and not care much about others he does seem like the type that has a little understanding about love and the feelings of others.
I think the main reason why he tries to avoid a confession is because of his past wasn't he rejected in junior high?

Hachiman is the epitome of self-reliability.

Throughout the entire series so far, we learned of Hikigaya's background and his vision on social dynamics and life in general. He's a outcast, a guy that doesn't need others but only himself - "I like myself. I've never once for a single second hated myself. My base stats are quite good and I'm not ugly either" - Hikigaya

I completely understand and relate why Hachiman is so harsh against Yukino. Not only having wrong expectations of her, but also intentionally not being honest with him. If it was me, she would be flying diagonal thanks to my uppercut. (Joking ofc)

And I do honestly believe, that if this series get popular, they might make a season 2 out of this.

Was he really that harsh to her, though? By his own words, he's the guy who lets things go and has never taken revenge. That whole ending was mostly him being harsh with himself, because he knows that everyone lies and yet he convinced himself that Yukino doesn't. He pushed his unreasonable expectations onto her, and considers himself despicable for it. I don't see anything that indicates he blames her for not being honest. He cut her off, but it seems like that was to stop her from saying something she felt obligated to say once she found out that her sister told him it was their car in the accident (or possibly once that car came to pick her up after the training camp). I don't see any meanness in his character; one of his truly admirable traits is that despite being intelligent, he seems to be above pettiness and spite.

I just realized that the book at the end of the opening has the same panda as the one Yukino bought at the mall, and on the thing Hikigaya bought at the festival. I wonder if there is any particular significance to it.

Another great episode! Although Haruno pissed me off as to how blasé she was about the accident. Even though they covered an entire volume in one episode, I'm glad they'll be covering the next one with three episodes. This is of course assuming they end with volume 6.

Yui looked great and the episode was excellant. Yukinon's sister definitely has something against her and the way she basically told him that she was in the car when he was hit just screams that she's out to get her or something. I could be wrong but they seem to have family issues.

Another wonderful episode.
Not even 30 seconds in, Hachiman already made me LOL by falling off the couch.

I never knew the Hikigayas had a cat. But that dog translator app on Hachiman's phone is pretty cool.

For not letting Komachi go to the fireworks, Hachiman got slapped by karma, thus making him go out with Yui.
Oh Komachi, you and your evil schemes of setting up your brother.

To be honest, Hachiman and Yui (who is cute herself) do look sort of cute together.
But too bad he cut her off during her confession and returned to his original path.
And also, he cut Yukino off. But his reasons are understandable.

What will happen next?
I’m always searching for something, for someone. This feeling has possessed me I think, from that day… That day when the stars came falling.

I feel like this show needs to focus more on the comedy. Still, decent episode. Might have to re-rate the show soon though. I think it's nice that they've developed the characters so well, but I really think the strength is in it's comedy, not in it's drama.

Also, wtf, Hachiman? How does her not telling you about the accident make her a liar? SMH

And another thing, am I really supposed to feel bad for this guy? He gets hit by a car being driven by (pretty much driven by) the hottest girl in school WHILE saving the dog of another hot girl... both of whom now hang out with him pretty exclusively. Are you fucking kidding me? I spent most of high-school wishing something like that would happen to me. Talk about a bad attitude...

I'm not sure if we are supposed to feel bad for this guy. Well other than the fact that he got hit by a car I really don't feel bad for the guy. So what if you got rejected by the other girls in your middle/other school, you are going to be rejected by plenty of women in your lifetime. Its no reason to be salty towards people.

But then again if his attitude wasn't like that, I don't think this show would be as popular. So I totally understand why the authors made him like this. (He is a lot different than other MC in other types of animes like this)

Stake pleasant, the relationship between Yui and Hachiman became even more closely, though he with his usual bluntness crushes every emotional impulse, I wonder if this will be the end of the possible relationship between the two, I would see a good eye on their union instead of an almost predictable relationship YukinoXHachiman! D: Yukino in this episode loses more points with hachiman, even though he hates most in himself for having unconditional trust in her, something about him is changing. I like how the story without outputs unlikely carries on the school life of the protagonist. The only flaw the drawings below average. Ah, this time the teacher can not see! XD

Yu is very cute, the best anime for sure <3 expected that Hikki that he bought for her, but it seems he will never give up her virginity-q
