I want to see this movie. Should i see it in English or Japanese?
Just curious about what everyone thinks ^^

It depends if you like dubs or subs. Watch the beginning of both and see which version you like better.

I watched it dubbed and it was pretty good. Most Ghibli dubs are quality.

The usual preference for people is the sub but in rare cases the dub can match the quality of the sub if the voice actors are good.

There is nothing wrong with watching Ghibli in English. Disney usually does a great job dubbing the movies. And this is no exception.

That said, there is a bit of a divisive argument over which version is the better of the two. Before Disney's there was a dub distributed by FOX done by the late Carl Macek. That version was arguably Macek's finest hour, and there are plenty, including myself, who hold it very fondly. Perhaps a little too fondly, because most of those same people found the newer version with teh Fannings jarring. But is nostalgia an excuse to dismiss the newer version altogether? No. Just because Dakota and Elle aren't Lisa and Ceryl doesn't mean they do bad jobs. Elle, in particular, is terrific as Mei, blessed with the juiciest role to begin with. Dakota does mostly fine as Satsuki in the beginning and middle, although she does underact a bit towards the end. It's no big deal, though; her performance is good overall. The rest of the cast is fine in both versions.

Arrietty is not my favorite of the Disney Ghibli dubs, but I still liked it a lot. Bridget Mendler was great, and even though Henrie sounded a bit too mature for Shawn, he still did a fine job. Carol Burnett was awesome as usual. However, I DID have issues with some of the line synching and the pop song during the second half of the closing credits. Still, I could find no great fault with it.

It's one thing to prefer the Ghibli movies subbed, but I don't like it when people go around telling others that it is the ONLY way to see the Ghibli movies. After all, Miyazaki once said that his movies are meant to be "seen, not read." If anyone likes them in Japanese and can understand them, great. But does that mean it is unacceptable to see them in English, especially with the care Disney has given them? Of course not. It's all about preferences.

i just hate disney's casting ideals both dub and ther own stuff it stop voice acting becoame a Mainstream carres in te US like it is here

It doesn't matter to me WHO Disney chooses to do the voices of the characters just as long as they do a good job. And while some performances are better than others, I have yet to hear a truly awful VA from a Disney dub, despite what haters claim. And besides, when Miyazaki approves the dubs, then who am I to disagree with him?

Disney butchers scripts and characters for the sake of their innocent American kids(it is truly amazing that they can do it without even changing any visuals). Since I've not watched Totoro dub, so I am not sure about Totoro, but it happened in other Ghibli movies. So, unless you're going to watch the both versions, go for sub.

"Butchered" may be a little too harsh a word. Reinterpreting is better. But I don't think they actually harm the movies' integrity that much at all. The dubs still hold up very well to me. And considering that Ghibli had to approve of the changes to begin with, I don't think that that can ever really count as "butchery". Now "WARRIORS OF THE WIND" can be the exception, as that was truly blasphemous. Frankly, though, even after having seen four Ghibli movies subbed, I feel much more comfortable watching them in English. Regardless of what changes are made, the movies are still great, and the stories are still faithful. Either way is fine to me.

Sorry, but I believe Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Cowboy Bebop, Dragon Ball Z, and Black Lagoon would take issue with that statement, among many others.
