Additional Info: The break -even-point for most of anime DVDs is about 5,000 copies per volume. If the first week sales doesn't reach 3,000 - 3,500 copies, the anime companies fail to make profit from the anime. In other words, if the first week sales are below 2,500 copies, they will have a debt. Modified by dtshyk, 12-24-08, 7:44 AM |

Boo, Itazura na Kiss only at #109. On a lighter note, good to see CG R2 on the Top 10. |

It's an airing block for CM purchased by a company directly from the TV company. There is no financial relationship between the "Spot CM" company and the anime programs. So McDonald has nothing to do with ZetsuKare. Most of the TV ads you see in the anime programs belong to the production committee companies of the anime itself (eg. Kadokawa's anime has CM of Kadokawa's magazines.). The rest of the ads are unrelated "Spot CM". Edit: I think I need to quote this from Shrinking Anime Market: To be or not to be?. Most of the Japanese anime are NOT supported by the intervening TV ads. Anime companies purchase the right of airing from TV companies and put their own DVD release ads or related magazine/manga ads. The airing of anime on TV is considered to be an advertisement of its DVD. DO NOT complain that Japanese fans are enjoying anime for free by the financial support from sponsors. There are no such generous sponsors. Our expenses on DVD directly support the anime industry. Modified by dtshyk, 12-24-08, 7:42 AM |

So what does the "This anime is sponsered by the following companies..." which usually follows the OP mean? Nothing? Seems kind of odd to have something like that if they're not paying for anything. I thought McDonald's in Japan was maybe doing a ZKC tie-in, like having ZKC toys in their happy meals or something like that. TV in Japan is too complicated ;) |

I googled to find McDonard's is one of the committee companies of Zettai Karen Children along with Geneon, Konami, Shougaku-kan. It's quite rare a food company participates in anime production. Zettai Karen Children anime is targeting at kids, so there maybe a tie-up as you think. A "production committee" of an anime is a group of companies which invested money for the production of the anime. The system disperses the risk of the failure of the anime. The debt will be dispersed but the profit will also be divided among the companies. It's a "low risk, low return" business. Modified by dtshyk, 12-24-08, 8:14 AM |

DMC is at number 66? The most brilliant anime comedy ever sells a pathetic 3700 copies, barely breaking even? Wow. Japanese people have truly shitty taste, and that's a horrible sign for the possibility of a second season. |
