THIS IS AN MANGA ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS ANYTHING BEYOND THIS CHAPTER. ---------------------------------------- well.. it had to end somehow..lovers united and became one with the giant spiral. i like the idea of the continuous cycle of the town's history. at least the dad and mom got back together in the end, yes? and lol, wtf. the spiral closed without the little brother? LOL. that sucks :P consistently good stuff overall. 9/10 even, imo. *thumbs up |

I don't get it DDD: Did they mention who or why the spiral was built? Did I miss it or was it never said... lol maybe I'm just too stupid to get it. OTL crowslayer91 said: and lol, wtf. the spiral closed without the little brother? LOL. that sucks :P I guess that means he escaped the spiral? Or he could be found a few years later and be named as a new species of giant snails. Modified by Rainri, 01-22-09, 8:45 PM |

Poor Mitsuo. Kirie said she'd come back for him but she never can. Is she dead or alive? She's "frozen in time" or something, until the spiral awakens again. Or something like that. And I didn't get one part - as they're walking through the row house spiral they have to go through the row house at one point. As they do, Chie suddenly gets caught in the woodwork, which begins to stand up on its own (?). And then she gets trapped in there. I was like "what?" Did the ugly spiral people trap her or what? Then after that suddenly all the row houses are empty. Huh? I guess it's just Uzumaki~ |

You'll probably never read this, but I wanted to share my opinion. Then after that suddenly all the row houses are empty. Huh? From what I understand, the "ugly spiral people" were building the houses from the inside. Meaning it wasn't just standing up on its own. Then after they completed the row houses, the ancient city (or whatever you'd like to call it) sucked everyone in. That's why the row houses were all of a sudden empty. Xinyue said: Did they mention who or why the spiral was built? I'm not really sure. If they did, I missed it. In my mind it's just kind of like, "the spiral has always been here just to curse this town." Ha. Who knows. ![]() |

Xinyue said: Did they mention who or why the spiral was built? I don't believe so. It was something on the line of no one every makes it out alive to tell the world what happened. I'm pretty sure I read in the manga somewhere about the town being sealed off for a century so that the outsiders would forget the incident and move back into town so the whole process could repeat itself. |

It doesn't make sense at all why the town citizens didn't leave at all. All of this happened over a long time. The mangaka didn't explain why the spiral even forms. It made me feel like I wasted my time reading this pointless story. 4/10 |

I really, really, really disliked this ending. I really wanted Shuichi and Kirie to get out together, I loved both characters (especially Shuichi) and to see that they basically give up and die -- no matter how "romantic" the basis of it is -- really bothered me. Sigh. I thought the manga was going somewhere better than this. :< ![]() |

I also liked the way it ended. I thought it was bittersweet that they had to face death, but who better to face it with than the one you love, you know? In mythology as well as my nature-based faith, the spiral symbolizes death. Yet it's easy to forget that it's part of a cycle of death then life (if you believe in reincarnation). The entire city went back to the Earth from which they came and the cycle will begin again in umpty-hundred years, which is an interesting thought. A lot of people like clear-cut, explainable endings. I like the fact that the mangaku left it up to the reader to feel the ending as they wish. Although this was definitely a horror manga, it seems that the ending wasn't nearly as horrific as it could have been, especially considering that whole bit with the babies and the "mushrooms". *shivers in disgust* So that's my take on it. I liked it and thought it was somewhat sweet that the lovers die within the spirals. |
