So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

As expected for Gundam UC and Nanoha Movie 2.

That longer restock date (Mar 22 release, restock on Apr 12 compared to Feb 22 release, restock on Feb 28) for GaruPan v3 might be showing its toll here compared to v2.

Love Live! v1 was within my expectations of 15~20k, on the high end though which I am happy about!

Chu2koi v4 still quite consistent.

Ai Mai Mii does end up selling less than Shirokuma Cafe, and on the lower end as predicted since Shirokuma Cafe only sold ~900 as usual.

Tamako Market v1 did fulfil people's expectations during the season. It has sold less than 4682, which is a just ouch for an anime predicted to sell 10k+ preseason...

7k for Precure - nice to see this :)

Also Love Live selling really well, now it's just a matter of time for second season.

Tamako Market and Maoyuu Maou Yuusha seem to sell really badly.

Just asking... how many editions of Nanoha movie (which did great and that's also good thing to see) are there? 2 BD and 3 DVD? you are crazy Japan or add some neat stuff to that deluxe versions.

How is Psycho Pass volume 4 doing compared to the last volume?
Decent sales, but I really want to know. I love the show and want a sequel...a movie, second season, string of OVAs, anything!

Seeing KamiHaji 4's sales are really saddening. The only thing I can say for it is that it had low production costs. Ah, but the latest manga volume also sold more than twice as much as the manga was selling pre-anime. It only used to sell about 40k or so and then after the anime the next volume sold 70k and now the latest volume sold more than 100k, I believe. I really want a second season...:/

Ouch........
Hakkenden was OVERestimated. Ouch...those are REALLY poor sales. Poor Kadokawa. They try and make a good bishie show and this what happens...

Love Live! sells extremely well, no surprise there. Wonder if it'll drop at all for volume 2.

1st week sales were a tad lower for v4 compared to v3... so it's doing okay for its 1st week.

Key observations:

- A BUNCH of BD titles fail to rank because of the high cut-off line. Most significant absence is Tamako Market and MaoYuu, but also Total Eclipse v7, Saki Achiga-hen v8, Da Capo III v1, The Unlimited v1, Busou Shinki v4, and Overman King Gainer BD Box

- MaoYuu is projected by Amazon Stalker to have 3.7k in sales. If the projection is on-spot, it will mean it just lost out in making into this week's ranking, but there is also the possibility that the Stalker overestimated.

- Since Tamako is projected by Amazon Stalker to have 3k in sales. It is always uncertain if it can rank, but what we clearly know is that there is no underestimation on a big scale like what we previously saw in some KyoAni works or works like Dog Days.

- LOVE LIVE is really really strong. Its sales is >70% higher than Amazon Stalker projection. It not only will lead among this season's shows by a large margin, but also unambiguously beats Horizon2 v7 in sales. And it is unlikely to be a vol.1 only phenomenon - subsequent volumes are showing robust strength too.

- Nanoha movie: The BD regular edition does not rank in this list, meaning it sold <4k, but it should rank in the fuller list coming out later this week. At the moment, its total BD/DVD sales comes to around 76k - the first week sales for the first movie is around 83k so we are certain there is a small drop.

- Gundam UC is showing very consistent performance. There is virtually no change in sales (at around 136k) from the last volume

- Chu2byo has only a slight drop in sales from v3 to v4 (13k to 12k). So the shift in mood in the series at the mid-point of the series turned out to have no significant impact after all.

- The grand package of K-On music, one that contains every music the show has made and sold for a princely sum of almost 20k Yen, sold astonishingly well.

Mogami-kun, but Psycho-Pass is the weakest out of those five with Horizon being the best.

Poor Tamako. I really liked last episodes, I hoped it would pick up a bit. On the other hand, they can blame only themselves for not hyping/advertising the show.

The last episode has more than sufficient power to boost every GirlPan volume and although v1 is out of stock I am seeing the Standard Edition rising in rank. I won't be surprised to see the GirlPan v1 sales number revised upwards again come late May when GirlPan v1 RE is released.

Yeah, I forgot to include the DVDs. So, it's doing well then. It feels kinda weird to see Chuu2 above it, but it's understandable.

Nothing unexpected here, although I would've preferred Horizon2 to sell 20,000+ but that might still change over the course of the next week. PP is doing fairly well considering its length. And GuP dominating shouldn't surprise anyone anymore anyway.
On a different note- I wonder how well Vividred Operation will sell and if it will make it into the charts next week (which it undoubtedly will in my opinion).

Amazon Stalker projection puts it at around 5.5k but that was after a storefront sales campaign shifted a lot of orders from Amazon to retail shops, so substantial Stalker underestimation is expected, but we do not know by how much. If the final sales goes 50% higher, it would mean 8k, still much much lower than Love Live's 18k, and considering it was once viewed as the most likely candidate to be the top-seller of the winter season with >10k sales, it is a disappointment. But then it will still probably be the second bestselling title this season. Just goes to show how weak this winter season is.

Also, thanks for your kind words, GuiltyKing!

So happy for Kotoura - san ED CD! I love that disc, good value too, 44 minutes with bonus ESP RESEARCH MEETING track and the DVD.

Glad for LoveLive! 1, with its tail 20K should be a lock. I want season two and lots more CDs!!! Good to see Start : Dash ranking again and breaking 20K.

And great time for Girls Und Panzer 3 even with stock issues... Again. Bandai Visual does both GaruPan and LoveLive! Burning duplication machines, I can smell it from here!

As I predicted Tamako Market needs to wait for Thursday. So do the rest of my purchases last week... Da Capo III, maybe makes Thursday? Shinsekai Yori and BTOOOM maybe not? Asura? Hmm.

One suggestion: keep making these threads.
I think cut-off line is the most useful addition, it should also help in avoiding much of confusion, just look at this thread (last posts) for extreme example. It's much better on MAL but these small lines are certainly helpful for constant flow of newcomers.
OP/ED info is also nice to see.

I never really cared about music but one thing made me curious - why weren't albums posted earlier? I suppose their data is released together with singles, right?

Interestingly, from this week's sales alone, SSY volume 1 has been outselling vol 5 on Amazon. Of course, there's all the pre-orders to consider as well but still...

Maybe this increase in people buying volume 1 could increase the sales of later volumes slightly. Or then again maybe I am just being overoptimistic. But 6 has a BR sales prediction of about 60 higher than 5's final figure, which in turn was about 80 (almost 10%) higher than 4's final figure.

Yes, that Asura. I saw it in the theatre last fall and wanted to own it and now I do. Enjoyed it even more the second and third times through! Sounds great with 5.1 DTS, good use of the rear channels. Decent extra bonus features, interviews, making of, et al.

Was it BD only? Hope it at least ranks on Thursday but obviously it is no Ookami... It is QUITE violent, not for everyone but very powerful and moving. Shame it went pretty much unnoticed.

It would be a huge week again next week, the rest of winter season plus SAO, TLR, LB etc..
The ones (BD) to watch include (ranked in descending order of Stalker projection)

- SAO v6
- Gintama Enchousen v2
- ToLoveRu Darkness v4
- Little Busters! v4
- Vivired Operation v1
- Haganai2 v1
- Hidamari4 v4
- Minamike4 v1
- Jormungand2 v4
- Sakuraso v3
- OniAi v4
- Senran Kagura v1
- Magi 4 (DVD)
- Amnesia v1 (DVD)
- AKB0048 2nd v1
- OreShura v2
- Sasami-san v1

First volume of Sakurasou sold around 2500 or 2900 so 2nd volume Oreshura maybe below 2000? That's like half of the first volume.

As I predicted Tamako Market needs to wait for Thursday. So do the rest of my purchases last week... Da Capo III, maybe makes Thursday? Shinsekai Yori and BTOOOM maybe not? Asura? Hmm.

Could volume one of Shinsekai Yori rank (again? I didn't think it ranked originally since we had no top one hundred back then) at last, this week of all weeks? That would be quite something. It would be a miracle but I hope the last episode makes some people decide to buy the whole series, it deserves some payback as it is a great show, even though some animation issues were present.

I doubt that will happen - it's been hovering around the high 200s and low 300s in ranking for anime blu rays over the course of the past week. A lot of the things above it haven't come out yet, sure, but given the big week this was and the fact that amazon stalker (and thus amazon's ranking) seems to overestimate SSY's sales probably mean that it won't get on there.

Still, it would be funny if it did make its first appearance almost 4 months after it came out.
There is no such thing as shit taste. Only idiots who think everyone should have the same taste as they do.

I think cut-off line is the most useful addition, it should also help in avoiding much of confusion, just look at this thread (last posts) for extreme example. It's much better on MAL but these small lines are certainly helpful for constant flow of newcomers.
Happy to see that you love the new cut-off line information! It seems that the sales data posted on MAL are quoted by quite a number of sites, so your observation that it will help the relative newcomers is really valid, particularly since in those sites there may not be people like myself answering their questions. And in the site you quoted, apparently they even removed the preliminary vol.1 ranking lest it causes unnecessary confusion (like someone jumping in to comment about Tamako only having sold 617 copies).

Proguesz said:
I never really cared about music but one thing made me curious - why weren't albums posted earlier? I suppose their data is released together with singles, right?
This actually has been on my mind for some while. Yes, the data are released together with the singles. Anyway, I can't comment on why it was not there but since I would like it to be included so I added it in.

Congrats on your debut :) One question, will you be posting these rankings from now on? Does that means you're taking over dtshyk? The OP/ED info is a great addition, keep up the good work :D
Thank you, Natsu12345. Both dtshyk and I will post on this board and you should see me posting more on this BD/DVD/CD sales threads in future.

I've been wanting to ask this for a while now, why did they skipped in numbers? Does this mean that the one that ranked 5 is not an anime? Or.. what?
This is because the list is a BD Top 10 for all genres, so it can contain BD that is a movie, music concert or TV drama etc. It is just that anime buyers are THE early-adopters of the BD format so you usually see anime titles dominating the BD Top 10 list even though it covers every kind of BDs. In this week, no.5 of BD is a music concert BD by a very popular band L'Arc-en-Ciel. And naturally this will not make it into our list ;-)

There are two lists for Tuesday BDs: Top 10 animation BDs, and Top 20 all-genre BDs. Since there are generally more than 10 anime BDs in the Top 20 all-genre on heavy weeks, we get the ranking numbers from the Top 20.
You are right. I should have remembered the Anime BD top 10 as well. I guess I am just so used to seeing >10 anime BDs in the BD top 20 all-genre list that I just mixed things up in my post earlier.

4 completely different anime produced by Sunrise in the top 20. They really seem to know how to get their stuff off the shelves regardless of genre lately. As for Tamako Market I guess I have to totally eat crow for my suggestion that it would see a surprise turn around and that Kyoani could never experience another Nichijou.

I never would have thought I'd see the day where a moeish idol show by a studio famed for it's mecha anime and one by an upstart that's about tanks would so vastly outperform the big moeish slice of life show by Kyoani in a season. You really have to wonder if there's some brain storm going on at Kyoani and they're maybesecond guessing their decision to strip Tamako Market of the plot they'd supposedly come up with for it in the wake of Love Live and Girls Und Panzer which showed to perform strongly and are both noted specifically for their surprisingly well-considered plot by fans as a reason they follow them so closely

Anyway that's Winter season for you, if there're going to be surprises this is the season for it happen.

The Temporal Blu-ray + DVD Sales Rankings. It made it really easy to see who the sellers of the season were without having to count up all the specific releases and check different sites just to find out all the numbers.

That's the same thing: Temporal BD+DVD Sales Ranking == Preliminary vol.1 Sales Ranking.

One reason I hesitated to put it for this week is the glaring omission of Tamako and MaoYuu. This indeed makes any Temporal Ranking misleading as we know full well that Tamako has not sold just 600 or so discs the past week. I am thinking of putting it only after the full list is out -- particularly in a week where there are tons of titles released. What do you think?

A funny one on that list is Nakaimo OVA. I added Mondaiji at the last minute and considered Nakaimo OVA as well but amazon said they would notify when when a shipping date would be available. I came to my senses and just ordered volume 10 of the LN instead but it seemed odd to me that I would get a message like that which usually means their preorders are exhausted. I did order Mondaiji BD1 and the new LN for it as well...
