So the consensus is that GJ-bu underperformed.

What are the chances this show gets licensed? Will these unimpressive sales numbers even further dampen the chances that someone picks this show up?

Licensors will grab literally anything if it's cheap enough - and an underperforming show may be cheaper to license because it isn't as in demand. I don't pay attention to the R1 industry anymore but what news I do inadvertantly read makes it clear to me that there's no real correlation between sales and likelihood of getting licensed.

I mean, didn't Kill Me Baby get licensed?
It also matters who holds international rights. In the case of Kill Me Baby, it was TBS, whom Sentai has a VERY CLOSE relationship with and it was a cheap license/package deal/whatever for it. GJ-bu is held by NTV, who haven't had a lot of NA titles released lately, so I wouldn't count on it being released in North America. They've done well for streaming through Crunchy though.

Why da fu is Oreshura selling so well

If you really want to fit in, just put Legend of the Galactic Heroes in your top 5 and have it be the only 10-rated anime in your list.

So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

That said, I doubt the 2nd season will reach 50k at all. Did a 2-cour anime averaged 50k showed up excluding Eva??

The only 2+ cour anime over 40k since 2000 are:
68,735 - Kidou Senshi Gundam SEED Destiny
58,589 - Kidou Senshi Gundam SEED
46,147 - Macross Frontier
45,366 - Code Geass: Hangyaku no Lelouch
42,690 - Code Geass: Hangyaku no Lelouch R2

If you combine the two parts of Fate/Zero it would average about 49k.
.

Fate/Zero did 52,133 in first season and 45,804 for second season... so i dont understand the logic here, lol.

He was talking about 2-cour anime averaging over 40k. Fate/Zero by itself was only 13eps or 1-cour. That is the reason why he stated the average of the 1st and 2nd season combined. Technically it wasn't 2-cour since there was a 3 month gap in airing but you can consider them as one for the purpose of the discussion.

It's more like split 2-cour. I won't really separate them apart since that 3 month gap was just for marketing + quality management, still the same project on the same line.

With the floodgate of new title release, including first vol of some of the most talked-about series in this season, starting to open from next week, I think it is time to share some data I have gathered for Amazon Stalker BD+DVD vol.1 sales projection.

So far Stalker is spot-on for GJ-bu (2.9k projection, 2.4k actual sales) but underestimates a fair bit for OreShura (4.2k projection, 5.8k first week sales -- accumulated sales is 7.1k now).

For the remaining titles, here are the ranking sorted by projected first-week sales.

I have included the number of days left so for those with sales date that is further ahead, expect to see variation of the projection number over time so the final number when it is near the release date may be different. Also I add up the number of BD and DVD if the number is at least >300 (too low and it will not show up in Oricon and the sales won't get counted).

So here you go:

1. 10.1k Love Live (6 days)
2. 6.2k ViviPan (11 days)
3. 5.9k Haganai2 (11 days)
4. 5.8k OreShura - first week only
5. 5.1k Chihayafuru2 (67 days)
6. 4.7k Yama no Susume (69 days)
7. 4.3k MaoYuu (3 days)
8. 3.9k The Unlimited (4 days)
9. 3.7k Minamike4 (11 days)
9. 3.7k Tamako Market (4 days)
11. 3.6k Senyuu (40 days)
12. 3.4k PuchiMasu (10 days)
13. 3.0k Senran Kagura (11 days)
14. 2.8k Amnesia (11 days)
15. 2.5k Hakkenden (5 days)
16. 2.4k GJ-bu
17. 2.3k AKB0048 2nd (11 days)
18. 2.0k Mondaiji (13 days)
19. 1.7k Kotoura-san (11 days)
19. 1.7k D.C.III (4 days)
19. 1.7k Sasami-san (11 days)
19. 1.7k gdgd Fairies 2nd (12 days)
23. 1.6k Cuticle Tantei Inaba (11 days)
24. 1.3k Osaka Okan (35 days)
25. 1.1k Aimaimi (6 days)
26. 0.7k Mangirl (69 days)

One thing to note is that Tamako Market, Love Live and ViviPan are expected to be particularly skewed towards storefront sales model so Stalker is expected to underestimate the sales of these titles by larger margin than other titles.

GJ-bu.
They just made Yuru Yuri again, only with a male lead and a lack of Yuri. I am not all that suprised that it underperformed.

Cause Japanese Otaku have different tastes than White Otaku, and Japanese Otaku spend more money....its been that way for a very long time. Don't know why people are STILL surprised shows like GJ-bu, K-ON, A-Channel, are popular in Japan. Slice of Life and Moe anime are the safest sells... and white folks dont really buy into that.
