I enjoyed watching it but I feel like the characters acted a bit OUT of character. Good to see the new animation. X) I wish they would remake DB and DBZ with animation like this. |

I enjoyed this ONA. It wasn't anything special, it was just fun seeing all the characters. Also, I am glad that they chose to have this take place before GT. |

Really missed the old gang, it was nice seeing all of the characters again especially Krillin, Yamcha, Piccolo, C18 and the rest. The updated old intro gave that warm nostalgic feeling as well. And as funny as the episode was, it pained me that we saw only Goten and Trunks fighting with others only having smaller role. Somehow expected more but eh, maybe next time. So this takes place just after the mayin boo saga, trunks and goten should have been alble to beat these enemies in 1 kick since they should be as strong as frieza, and even future trunks kills frieza in one hit, BEFORE the android saga so... But whatever, nice animation, nice to see every notible DBZ character. Had a fun watch. |

I honestly didn't care for it, since the majority of screen time went to, of all people, Goten and Trunks. I don't understand the appeal of those two characters; I know Dragon Ball was, and still is mainly aimed at children, but the series did just fine for years without giving child characters an over abundance of screen time at the cost of the adults (what it WAS guilty of was being overly reliant on Saiyans, but that's a whole other issue). Maybe my perception was colored because I watched Broly: Second Coming and Bio-Broly before I watched this, but I was set to overload on those two kids, and to see a new special focus mainly on THEM fighting, it was too much. I also DESPISED how they left Tenshinhan and Chiaotzu out of the special. I totally understand that they didn't want to replace his VA out of respect for his death some years prior, but to just leave out two character who were, at one point, considered to be MAIN CHARACTERS of the series feels like an insult. Especially when characters like Launch and Gregory were in there, and neither one had any actual dialogue. They could have, at the very least, tossed in a line explaining how they couldn't find the duo because they're so reclusive; but even if they did, it wouldn't have made it any easier when Gotenks uses one of Tien's attacks. It almost felt like they were rubbing his absence into the face of the fans. Tarble... I don't care. He was barely in the thing and made no real impression. The only saving graces about this whole thing was the fact that Goku had become a radish farmer (loved that reference to his brother) and, even after all this time, Goku and Vegeta still provided some amusing banter. |
