the most hardcore never leave their rooms. I sometimes wander around the house if I need to get something, bathroom or if I'm hungry (but my mom usually brings me something to my room). Rarely do I go outside (except if I'm forced into yard work or the occasional 'hey wanna LAN')

For me,
The parts that sucked:
Parents sweating me to find a job/activity
When my friends ask me "What are you doing?"

The parts that I counted:
No sun contact (I hate sunshine)
I got free internet from a college hotspot next to my house
I can chase all the anime, games, & manga that I missed during college times
I can maintain my 10 hour sleep without a problem

The best part:
You could die and nobody would give a damn about it, lol

"Haruhi stood in front of a sign that says "Don't feed the pigeons," she then began to openly throw bread crumbs around like a gardener determined to make the wilting flowers blossom again. All I could say about this is that she's probably illiterate." - Kyon 2:3

Being alone, don't have to put up with retarded shit and people every day, and I can spend the entire day doing what I want.

Dropped out of school. Don't know what I'm going to do with my future but I guess you can say I'm screwed. I'll enjoy how things are now, I guess.

a hikikomori/neet lifestyle isn't really that great when you're only 16 years old...

why not? thats the glory age, you stay in your room. the parents pay the elektrik + internet. and when it gets dark you sneak out to buy something to eat.

I enjoy isolation and solitude more than anything for the past 15 years of my life. This description sums my personality up fairly well

Self-reliant, each loner swims alone through a social world—a world of teams, troops and groups—that scorns and misunderstands those who stand apart

Loners know better than anyone how to entertain themselves—and how to contemplate and to create. They have a knack for imagination, concentration, inner discipline, and invention—a talent for not being bored.

I only need money and to be far from that loathsome family...

i'm not living it, but i wish i did. instead i'm forced to go out into the outside world that scares the hell out of me and i have to work and make money cuz i live on my own. if i won the lottery, i'd stay inside all the time and only go out if i absolutely have to.

I've been living as a hikikomori for 8 years, successfully... no parental support (I got cut off a long time ago). I only drag myself out to get food across the street late at night when nobody is there.. I live in a room, with a bathroom.. I watch anime, read yaoi, drama, romance manga.. the thought of being around people sends me in a panic.. I do however make my own living, from home.

If you are a young hikikomori or see yourself going that way, I suggest learning web programming. LAMP (although Im more LLMP in preference) can get you a fair bit of money.. I make all my money through advertising and Google AdSense which at it's height has paid me $350 and lowest $125 per month. It's not a lot, but I make about $600-$800/mo.. It's enough to pay for my $400 lifestyle and be able to eat, buy anime and manga online and sit in my world all alone.

Just a thought.. I know it's rough, seriously, there are so many ups and downs its probably at least partially what's driving me so nuts..

Too bad we couldn't all buy out a building and live in our separate rooms while contributing to the mortgage lol.. epic idea... 45 hikikomori's in one building, all minding their own business, 100/mo would cover everything... ah dreams.. good to have them.. although we'll never crawl out of our collective holes to do them. :)
Life is anime, manga, ramen, programming, doing everything to the minimum so you can fit in the maximum of everything you love.

I only like the sleeping part when I like to just switch off and hope I don't wake up. I wish I could be that independent go getter type...
