Another possible idea might lie right in the company's own name; there's probably a reason why they're called Dresden Pictures. Alternately, they could try setting it in the Eastern Front, at which point it'd essentially be a remake of Come and See (another World War II film that Roger Ebert admires, incidentally enough). Or maybe, I dunno, they might actually film it in Japan, using Japanese actors? What exactly precludes a British company from making a film in Japan? |

| So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old? I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them? I wonder how long people would put up with this. As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series. |
| It's possible to do this right. I hope they can but I'm not overly optimistic. Not because it is Western, but because so many of these attempts have been half hearted in recent year. If done well, it could be an award winning drama that would bring attention to the original film. kusushi said: wat setsuko will be a british girl in this movie? They'd be crazy to do that. As that would be changing the story to remove all significance. The whole point of the movie was to show the toll of war on innocent children. Even in "total" war, on the axis side, even outside of the nukes and just with firebombs, and even without direct actions. The cost of the lives of innocent people like children is disturbing. There's a lot of people who hold so much contempt to the axis powers because of the atrocities of Germany and Japan, that they push that scorn on innocent lives. The innocent little girls of Nazi German and Imperial Japan were not Nazis or anything like it. And deserve sympathy no matter what their warring governments did. There is no such thing as true Total War. For every nation has innocent children who are orphaned and suffer for it. Making the characters of a different nation removed the point and impact altogether. |
| there is a reason why it was an animation in the first place. it depicts reality but at some spots it needs to be creative. im just hoping that it'll still give the heart-warming n sympathetic effect from face expressions etc like the animation did. or whatever CG they'll use for the red-themed Seita n Setsuko. im curious how this is gonna turn out though. i love the animated film. |
