It's obvious that we're all metal fans! But which band(s) do you like the most?
For me it'll be:
Sonata Arctica, Disturbed and Rhapsody!
Perhaps I'll add some more to my list, when they come to my mind!

What about YOU?

Definitively Children of Bodom!

I really love the vocals and the guitar. The guitar parts are very influenced by Dark Classic music, like Bach, Wagner, Mozart etc.. As for the Passage to the Reaper guitar lesson, which is based on Vivaldis Summer.

Great band, shame if you haven't listened to them!

Others that should be mentioned; Cradle of Filth, Soilwork and Slipknot :3

bands I like that I'm not sure are metal:

Gordian Knot (prog metal? prog rock? both?)
Platypus (see above)
Dysrhythmia (see above)
King's X (I think they're a combo of heavy metal, prog metal and prog rock, but I'm not sure)

Ulver is also one of my favorite bands, but I only like their later non-metal work.

favorite metal subgenres:

avant-garde
progressive
doom
folk

bands I noticed mentioned in this thread (probably missed a couple) that are not metal:

various people said:

Disturbed
Slipknot
Ill Niño
Rammstein
Bullet For My Valentine
Atreyu
Dry Kill Logic
As I Lay Dying
Rise Against
36 Crazyfists
Soulfly
Rob Zombie

I repeat, NOT metal.

And I believe that Clutch is not metal. I think they're just stoner rock. I haven't listened to them, but I might like them since I like some stoner doom metal bands and such.

Also, as awesome as Tool is, I'd say they're more progressive rock than progressive metal.

random statement:

Buzz Osborne scares me....

Clutch pretty much has 3 stages
Old: Alternative Metal
Middle: Funk Metal
New: Stoner Rock

they progressed with each album, becoming more technical and slower.

you get points for knowing who King Buzzo is though XD

Well, that may be harsh, but they sure need to learn about metal. It's a shame so many people don't know what metal is.

Thrash: Slayer, Anthrax
Power: Rhapsody (Of Fire), Stratovarius
Death: Children Of Bodom
Industrial: Rammstein, Ministry (though I haven't heard very many of their songs)
Other: Machinae Supremacy

I have plenty of other metal sitting around that I have not listened to yet (stupid homework...), so this list is certain to grow over time. Also, I'm not sure if I can be called a true metalhead, since I listen to electronic music a lot more then metal (though I do listen to a significant amount of metal).

P.S. The opening to Murder Princess is a pretty cool metal/rap/metalcore song, come to think of it.

Well, Power/Speed Metal is like how it says. At first, when people talked about it I never did care much about it until I decided to hear them out. I guess that the sheer speed of their playing is what captivated me, not to mention that some songs really sound awesome.

But like you said, different points of view. While I may like them, there are people that will hate/not like them because of their way of playing.
