I don't get it, sequel or prequel? It says prequel as the relation, it says sequel in the synopsis.

Thank Goodness. Better hope this will be better than the catastrophe known as Achiga-hen.

Judging from th title I don't think so. Even Achiga-hen stopped before finals.

The preview thing certainlymade it seem like it will just show to the end of the quarterfinals, which would make sense I guess. Each of the rounds will probably need at least 1 cour of anime, and we're nowhere near finished yet with the manga.

Nice, but if it is by the same studio as Achiga-hen, then my expectations are extra low.

@Solkiskey

-_\\. Achiga-hen was made by the same people as the first season and on the same production values. Just that manga itself is really rushed. In the anime they even add some more content. So it's really stupid to blame the studio here.

So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

I didn't like the first season, so I won't watch this. But it's about time for a second season since the first had no real ending.

Okay Saki, I'll forgive you the shitty distribution schedule and high cost of the bonus episodes now. Hell yes!

I have no idea how they plan to do this unless Kobayashi speeds up like crazy though.

The quarterfinals are finished. The PV shows almost (but not quite) exclusively quarterfinals stuff (and mostly first round QF at that). And it could well be split even if they do count it as one series. And there's other material besides the matches (of which there is marginally more than the finals of the regionals) to cover. Plus there's no date yet. PLUS both achiga-hen and the main series has shown stuff in the anime before it appears in the manga, so I don't see timing problems.

There would only be issues if they covered the finals, which looks very unlikely indeed.

Yeah, in that case I definitely hope they don't try. They can stretch Saki out as far as they want, and I'll love every second.

The only potential downside to covering just the quarterfinals is that if sales drop off, we might not get the rest animated (or get it rushed in an OVA). Saki has a modest but robust fanbase though, so hopefully they'll stick around. I imported the BD box of the first season and the Achiga-hen singles, so I'm sure I'll be sticking around at least.

Sweet! I was looking forward to more Saki!

The Achiga-hen one just didn't feel the same to me. I much prefer the other characters.

Same. I want to say I hated achiga-hen but I liked Toki and Subara so I guess it was average.

It's both actually.

The first Saki season ended up with Kiyosumi being qualified to go to the national and finished up with the national entrance ceremony.

From that point on the story was divided into two side: Side A and Side B.
You can see it as two smaller tournament where the 2 best school of each side will fight each other in the final.

Achiga-hen episode of side A was about the side A and is adapted from the manga with the same name.
We weren't shown Kiyosumi's progression in the tournament and they solely focused on Achiga getting to final (obviously with Shiraitodai).
This new season will continue to animate the Saki manga from where it left it. This will focus on side B and will focus on Saki trying to make it to final.

So it's after the first season of Saki but it'll start at the start of the national while Achiga-hen is already close to the final. So it's a sequel to the first season and a parent-story Achiga-hen.

I'm really really really happy about that news.
Achiga got it really easy so far. Toki was strong but apart from Shiraitodai, side B is where the real monster are participating.

It's very likely that we won't, not this season at least. The manga is actually too far from it, the season will probably finish with the semi final match.
The final and the individual tournament will probably be in another season.
