This looks really interesting. The Psycho-Pass system seems really absurd. I'm hoping for more blood and violence in the future, although there are some aspects I would consider as moe...but whatever. Good episode~

I'm finding it difficult to accept the fact that they're supposed to detain (and if necessary even eliminate?) anyone who poses potential threat. It was harsh to paralyze the rape victim because she was a 'latent criminal' and could be a danger to the society. Judging a person solely on the basis of their crime coefficient... just doesn't seem right. At the same time, I'm wondering why did Akane seem like she had no clue about this entire thing, that you're supposed to take into custody anyone who the gun says has the probability of turning into a criminal? Is she stupid enough to enter the CID having no prior knowledge of the system? Or do they deliberately keep all the rookies in the dark until they come in contact with a practical situation? Or could it be that she was aware of it all but she assumed that since the young woman was a victim, they'd let her off the hook?

Anyway, those guns look cool and I'm glad at the way that asshole met his end xD The ED is pretty good. The OP? Didn't catch my attention.

I'm in the cycle where I watch the first episode of all the new fall '12 animes and then decide what I will continue with....this DEFINITELY made it to the list !

Such great action, and such great trauma within the characters (yes, I'm talking about that raped girl)! There were so many good things going on with the plot that made me eager for the next episode!!

My favorite part would be towards the end, when Akane stood for what she believes in (as tacky as that sounds) and wanting to help the girl...she has GUTS!!!! To attack Shinya like that, whom I really don't know what's his role in the show yet...but he's the main character ! It'll take sometime till I wrap my head around the storyline...for now....the action is what got me !

At the first thing i think that it is a dystopia so it isn't a fair system, they will explain later how they become that, i suppose. They could fail on explaining that, will see.

About the second, Akane is introduced as a rookie with an explanation about they being understaffed. The reason because she is so ignorant is because she is a tool of the plot, one rule in anime is that you can't stop the action for explaining things, you explain things while it is happening. Moreover she says that she used the gun in training, so they are explaining that for the audience mainly.

This was pure garbage. I like my dark sci-fi police stories but this was so ridden with clichés and poorly done it became a joke about five minutes in.

Like some people already pointed out, what was up with Akane needed to be explained everything. She arrived on the scene as the top student of the academy and next you're watching people explain everything to her for ten minutes, from how the police works (using latent criminals as hunt dogs) to even explaining how her gun works (to the very basics of it). Even if she's just book smart you can't ignore she'd at least have to know something. This was like a person becoming a firefighter and on the first day of his job needing to be told "This is a hose. Water is pumped through it so if you aim it at the fire, it will put it out."

Then we have super creepy knife rapist who's killed in a scene of overblown gore and of course a dark twist, because now they're going to shoot the victim also, because we haven't emphasized enough in the last fifteen minutes how ridiculously stupid the entire psycho-pass concept would be.

When the show was announced there was some hype around the promise the show would feature no 'moe', but apparently nobody got the message that keeping the moe out doesn't mean you have to exaggerate the grim and dark.

It's a common theme in sci-fi. Read the novel "Minority Report" by K. Dick for an exemple

The idea is to question the idea of predetermination and free-will.

Now, I don't know if the anime will treat this well or not ;)

The anime was clearly influenced by both Blade Runner and Minority Report, two movies adapted from Philip K. Dick's novel.
So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

Wow, this series could not be more sexists.
It is like trying to answer the question why female should not be in authorial position.
It like watching FOX new production....
-Female not fit for tough violent work
-Female are not mentally fit as male
-This is what happen if we don't give more funding to police.
-Everyone should be monitor for potential danger to society. (put nanobot in everyone)
-Emotionless judgement with instant Death penalty FTW!

They better fixed her character and give some major improvement soon or I will be too sick to my stomach trying to watch another episode.

They aren't being sexist. There was another female member ,Yayoi Kunizuka, and she doesn't even remotely look weak and emotional.

^ Exactly, you've met like three female characters while you've met a bunch of guys.

Anyway, episode was OK. I'm not a fan of the characterizations yet, but I'm sure they've done it so there's room for development (though I don't really agree that characters have to start off unlikable to end up awesome a la Twelve Kingdoms). Not liking any of the characters at the moment except for the orange-head. Decent animation with gorgeous backgrounds as usual thanks to IG, while the script was pretty bleh. I have a feeling the main guy isn't gonna be fun to watch at all.

Hmm, seems pretty interesting, I love the vibe of this anime though the characters didn't impress me yet. Specially the MC didn't really catch my interest, even though she's acting actually very naturally considering the events and circumstances.

The beginning was a useless and pathetic try at making the viewers think "what happened there and I want to see more"... it didn't, and it had absolutely zero connection to what happened in the episode whatsoever. Often that tactic works, but not now.

This anime is still quite blank in my mind, except for the awesome theme. Looking forward to the next episodes

I think the episode is pretty good, even though I am not that much of a fan of gritty hardboiled stuff, and yet the above is my biggest gripe of the episode. I just wonder there is a better way to tell the audience how things operate in that world.

Similar to Judge Dredd's theme. A bunch of law enforcers acted as the judge, jury and executioner running around the city chasing criminals and pass judgement to them.

I feel like I'm going to be so annoyed at times with this series because I can't agree with how the laws of that world work xD

If you go around pointing guns at a woman who's already emotionally unbalanced from being raped of course she's going to be prone to light your ass on fire xD If you give her some time to just catch her freaking breath and talk her down like Akane did you'd realize she wasn't a real threat to anyone.

They shouldn't judge people based on their emotions when said emotions are heightened due to extraordinary situations. It's the ones who go around harming people because they just felt like it that should be hunted like that.

But good episode LOL xD

Still, in Minority Report specific crimes would be prevented and it wasn't like a 'criminal' disposition would already be enough, especially not for killing them. That's a lot harder to swallow than the Minority Report reasoning in my opinion.
Plus I hope they broach the issue of the contradiction that the mental disposition they measure in f.e. the team members must be something different than when they measure someone in the middle of a very traumatic experience. Can't only time tell how it would influence her long-term psychological profile? If the measurements wouldn't be so fickle it would be more reasonable to use them to justify anything.
I probably regret this post by now.

Decent opener, easy to see where the inspiration for this anime is coming from with it's concept being so similar to the minority report and on the anime side i guess it would be GITS and Darker than Black. I really hope Gen can manage to break out of his safety zone with this one. After one episode, the parallels to his previous works are already present here in terms of character archetypes, series tone and writing style.

I'd imagine like police units in real life, many of them operate differently. Even the hounds mentioned that they had their own way of doing things but she was ultimately responsible for what they did.

To be honest, I'm very skeptical as to where this will go as well, hopefully the later episodes clear up some of the issues people are having.

So it seems teh "wanting to mindfuck/scar children viewers for life" was really a joke. Seriously, there ought to have been more actual torture/rape scene than a mentally and emotionally unprepared police girl who clearly has no place being on the field! And if one sick mofo being blown to bits (gore for short) is their definition of cruel, I'm so gonna be disappointed.

Makes me wonder what the mc exactly said to the girl before getting shot. Must be something along the lines of "just doing my job, missy. (So if you don't shut yer trap soon, perhaps I should shootshut it fer ya!)" XD

I was thinking more of "I don't care of this person, stop me if you can." Along those lines but I guess I was not far off.

It's not about shooting, it's about your mental state and soul that determines if the system makes you live or kills you.

I don't usually watch Sci-Fi but this is really good also I don't know if it was intended by the creators but this episode made me have a conflict between my morals and logic. I don't know how I feel about people being judge before they have committed the crime. For one I thought that the girl should of have shot the hostage since you know the law/gun required her to but my morals told me that she still had not committed a crime and she was just "infected" by the actual criminal, looks like they can be calmed down since the hostage changed from a threat to someone who could be treated.
