Well, I watched the 6pm L.A. showing. I thought it was really cool. I brought my friend who doesn't watch anime at all and he liked it a lot as well. Got some free stuff. Very happy. |

Just got back from the Chicago showing and I can't even put into words how cool this was. The theater experience was great. This was my first time watching anime in a theater and I'm really glad it was Madoka. They did a really good job putting this together and making it look so damn amazing. |

Kalafina's Credens Justitiam Kalafina's Sagitta Luminis A great effort, but still doesn't quite capture the same essence as the original versions. The original credens justitam had much more energy in it and sagitta luminis had a much larger buildup. Music purists like myself might also cringe that they don't quite hit the right notes in Sagitta Luminis, but this is probably an early take of this song. I just want new Yuki Kajuira music! |

I went to the first Houston showing at Alamo Draft House. Got there two hours early and was 6th in line. Which granted me good seats and a movie poster. A few people dressed up though the common thing were ribbons. Lots of scruffy looking college aged guys wearing red ribbons in their hair xD. The movies themselves were good. I liked the new animations and the songs were pretty well done also. The only thing that disappointed me a little was the build up to Mami's shocking scene. Leaving out her backstory made the events a little less shocking in my opinion. Though I brought a friend who knew nothing about Madoka and it turns out that he really liked Mami and was quite shocked at the event. So maybe it had the same affect for those who had not seen it before. |

Went to the second San Francisco showing today. It was glorious. While "Mirai" doesn't have quite the same level of intensity as "Credens justitiam", I thought the lighter arrangement worked really well. And those lyrics ;_; Also, Sayaka's new transformation sequence had some nice details. |

Seen the movies in Chicago and I really enjoyed them. I felt bad for some people because they left the theater during the credits of the second movie so they missed the trailer for the third movie that played afterwards. Still, can't wait for the third movie! |

I was at Chicago screening also. My friends came back from college out of state solely just to watch these movies together. We forgot parking is terrible in Chicago and spent a hour looking for a place to park. We missed the VA interview, but at least we made it before the movie started. The scene of Madoka and Homura snuggling in the opening credits was pretty much all i wanted. Everyone in the theater was cheering for that scene. The whole thing didn't feel like a rehash of the series, more like a polishing and refinement of the series. Improved visuals and animation, improved sound quality, remixed soundtrack, etc... To me, it reminded me of my feelings watching the series for the first time and now on the big screen. The experience was well worth it. We were sitting in the center back row and noticed it was like about 30 people that left before the post credits trailer for movie 3. I somewhat feel bad for them for missing such an awesome teaser, but not too much. They should have expected there might be a extra scene or trailer for the third movie. |

Watched the movie at Singapore's Anime Festival Asia. Can't say it's really epic like in the TV series, since I've already known the plot and all the twists, but still the new animation, music and the free goodies made the 25 dollars worth it. |

Oh. My. God. I cannot believe that this is a recap movie. Okay, I'm exaggerating, but c'mon, you know this movie deserves the praise. Everything looks colourful and alive, so much so that even with the normal-sized screen that the movie was played on at the Anime Festival Asia 2012 Singapore, the animation was good enough that I could immense myself so much more than I could with the TV series. Story-wise and character-wise, however, they are pretty much the same. That is, it isn't a bad point, either. It's nice to revisit the world again, and the consolidation of eight episodes into a single movie was very nicely done, with little to no details or characterization left out, at all. If anything, there was only a single part that was left out - Mami advising Sayaka to not choose her wish recklessly. Instead, the movie made it that Sayaka realize that without any advising from Mami. And with the Mermaid Shoujo being my favorite gal outta the quintet, it was nice to see that the cancelation of that scene (intentional or not) actually developed Sayaka a little further. Aside from that, there was also one thing that made the movie experience much more different than the TV series. That is, it's a movie. What I meant is, it's a movie where you sit around with a group of audience and experience Madoka's tragic tale together. It's a total experience from watching the anime on your own, TBH. I never had a much more fun time watching a movie. When Mami's death came along, we beheld the horror in silence. Our silence said so much. When Kyuubey was blasted with a shotgun by Homura, we cheered. And when Sayaka was slowly falling into despair, I believe I could hear several gulps of sniffing and snuffling all throughout the theater. Finally, I want to address one more thing. The first movie is comprised of the first eight episode of the series. There are 12 episodes altogether. That means, the second movie will be comprised of the final four episodes of the series, and then some new content, which will ultimately lead up to the (holy mother of god) extension story we've all been dying and craving for. Hopefully, my theory is correct, 'coz I'll be watching the second movie tomorrow. Who said it's not great to be an anime fan in these times? |

I watched both movies in 2 days at AFA Singapore, and honestly it was simply a great experience. It might have been a mere recap of the anime series as a whole, but it didn't fail to grip my emotions, it didn't fail to captivate. Sayaka's painful change into a witch, Mami's head biting experience, Kyoko's last sacrifice. These are all moments that we know and have watched, but it still evokes all those emotions despite that fact. Before the first movie, there was a special segment of the Seiyuus sharing their thoughts about the movie. They mentioned about how they could voice act the characters better after knowing them well this time round. How true. The voice acting was one notch higher than in the anime (not saying that the anime one was bad, it was already good), and we could empathise with the characters that much better. Visuals were stunning, and the new theme song was simply impactful. Besides, its sang by ClariS. Enough said. After the second movie, there was a trailer for the third movie, which features new content (most likely an extension). Best part of the trailer was seeing Kyoko in school uniform, which implies that she would be another transfer student! All in all, the movie experience was stunning and amazing, plus it comes with a bunch of nice premiums such as a poster and movie information booklets containing art. Well worth the money spent, and easily the best part of AFA for me =D |

It's just that one of the main reasons I watched it was to see the trailer in a non-cam-ripped form. I also sat through the credits waiting for it. Neither of which was too bad, but whatever. |

Got back from the screening in DC a couple of hours ago; fun times. Our theatre also did not get to see the third movie trailer; most of the audience remained seated expecting it and a big "AWWWW" was let out when the screen went black. While I felt like some things were improved upon from the TV series, I also felt like certain bits took a step backwards. The complex and detailed backgrounds were amazing, oh my goodness, but with a movie budget, obviously, Madoka was only going to become even more eye candy than it already contained. Maybe because I've watched the TV series so many times that I feel like I have it memorized, but some of the music was switched up and I felt like at some points it was less effective. I'd have to rewatch them again to confirm my initial reactions, though. Also, I was surprised that the first movie was able to squeeze in, essentially, episodes 1-8 (with the second movie containing just 9-12 by comparison); I just thought it would have been split up a just little more evenly, but where they cut it off makes sense and the length isn't too large of a difference (first movie clocking in at 2hr 10min and second movie clocking in at 1hr 50min). Regardless, I still think it is a successful set of recaps and still great for introducing newcomers. Madoka Magica is amazing and I still try to spread the word to get people interested/watching the series to those that have not seen it/heard of it yet. |

I recently had the opportunity to see the first and second movies in succession at a showing in Cambridge, Mass. Aside from not getting a poster (They had 30, myself and my friend were numbers 31 and 32 in line, respectively), I was pleasantly surprised to find they had taken what is an absolute masterpiece and made it even better. The pacing in the movies is spot on, keeping every essential scene from the show and cutting out everything unnecessary. The animation, soundtrack, and story are all top notch of course. Now I just wish Aniplex would announce a release date for a possible BD release of the movies stateside! |

Nope, that will only happen when the DVDs and Blu-rays come out, which should hopefully be sometime in the next 6 months. Once the DVDs and Blu-rays come out, then people can post them on either Anime Streaming Sites or Torrent Places online so people who want to watch them can for free. |

So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old? I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them? I wonder how long people would put up with this. As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series. |

Finally getting around to watching this.... ...I forgot how epic Madoka was on various levels. Those feels I felt years ago hit me HARD. It also reminded me why I was such a big Madoka fan (and Mami-sama lover). If this is how the movies are going to look, then I sincerely hope that my expectations of the Walpurgisnacht scenes being epically orgasmic will be met. #hypehype |

Mami's house seems so...lively. Kyouko seems to have gotten herself a lot of new snacks as well. Also, Sayaka and dat fortissimo. Anyways, movie did not disappoint. Especially DAT OPENING. Homuhomuhomuhomu- In addition, I just have to add that everyone in the theatre was laughing when Hitomi went postal. Can't wait for next Wednesday. I'll be getting myself a poster, hopefully. |
