Alright, this is the preview of the next episode:

But more importantly, it might also be the finale according to TV Arashi. I haven't seen this series since episode 20 or something but it looks like next week might be the finale, at least I think.

What do you guys think of this series by this point now btw? Excited for it to end, a bit weary, or just another title to finish like any typical series?

I won't know if it's suppose to end until I hear/see an official announcement saying so.
I like it a lot, though at times it can be boring.
While I have known a few shows to end at episode 37, I think that doesn't happen often, and usually I hear about a series ending about 4-2 weeks before it does, and I have yet to hear about it ending officially(usually something would be said in the news section of the anime's forums).
Also, as far as where they are in the story, I think it would be a strange place to end it....... but that's just my opinion. Of course, I might have missed seeing something about it.

Unfortunately I can't read Japanese characters, I can only read romaji and understand the spoken word enough to watch some raws.... but that wouldn't help me if I tried to read a Japanese news site- so I rely on English anime news sources to tell me....

Does feel like odd timing in the storyline to end it, in the middle of a tournament, unless they rush it I guess. Seems like its time is up for now but we did get 3 seasons worth which is not bad.

It's had its ups and downs, most annoying bits being episodes dragged out for no good reason but that's relatively typical for this genre I guess. It did get quite boring halfway through but it did pick up and I starting looking forward to episodes again - now it's ending. xD

As for the anime as a whole, it'll be somewhat memorable but it was never anything special. Nice to go back to week in week out and I will miss it a bit.

While I still hope Giant Killing returns I wouldn't mind if this does too someday. Ginga e Kickoff better not be going any time soon.

Yes, Next episode will be the finale.
Why is it always an anime that is stated nice and smoothly and then it will hang up the story and ends it without a proper ending. It is frustrating..

Area no Kishi is one of the great animes in 2012. Though sometimes boring because the protagonist of the story is too weak to play soccer unlike his brother Suguru. Maybe the mangaka of this anime wants us to feel that way. He may also wants to teach us a lesson to be "always act as a Challenger even you've accomplished something".

I hope there's another season for this anime. Too bad to end it here..

well ANN did post that saying TV Asashi says its is the final episode next week, and the preview for the episode even says next week for the final episode, so Im confused why one doubts it

I felt like they just weren't making money on it so they are dumping it.

Which honestly is surprising considering that with how many volumes the manga has it didn't have a dedicated fanbase for the anime.

I guess I have to be the honest bad guy here when it comes to Knight In The Area and voice my opinion. (Don't want to make people mad, it's just personal opinion, just wanted to see if anyone else feels the same way)

They really have to further annoy me by ending the tournament on the next episode? That's very strange but understandable if they couldn't get the funds to go on for another season.

Basically my opinion on Knight In The Area can be sumed up with one controversial word - 'abysmal'

I could probably go on, like how the Enoshima commentator constantly narrates & shouts in the matches, it can be soooo unbearable at times.

This all affected my enjoyment, when the series focuses on tournaments, Knight In The Area can be interesting from a tactical standpoint but that can't save how frustrated this anime has left me.

Probably if I was a teenager then most of this issues might not affect me, however, I love football and as an adult I really, really, REALLY dislike this series. /rant

Because I haven't found the info on it ending yet from ANN.... that's why >_>
Also, as I stated it's a strange place to stop it in the story... but it's not unheard of for an anime to stop suddenly.
Though, if they'd been planning on stopping, they should have done it when Araki went on his trip as a rep.

And as for it saying so on the preview, I stream episodes most of the time and the episode I streamed didn't have the announcement for it ending.

It's really strange to finish the anime in the middle of a tournament but I saw http://countdown.mandragon.info/ that it is going to end with 37 episodes...

It makes no sense to end it here!

-They are in the middle of the tournament
-Its not even the final match
-What about Araki in his match?
-That whole thing with nana saying they will make a new phi-trick?
-The other guys wanting to go up against Kakeru again and stop his feint

etc...

i completely agree with everything you said in the spoiler. it's like you knew exactly my thoughts on Area no Kishi. this has been the worst sports anime i've watched. the anime is mediocre with poor directing, low budget animation/artwork, boring characters, and a pretty average story.

the series is likely ending so abruptly because as Rastamepas said, they are probably not making a profit. if it's not selling, why continue the mess?

It is so sudden, it is just the beginning of the tournament. Plus, I'm expecting Kakeru to develop new skills other than Phi Trick, and there are plenty of space for development for Enoshima. It is odd to end now. The quality is not up to Giant Killing but it is atleast better than Hungry Heart Wild Striker, which had 52 eps.

Maybe it is suffering sales? Or other reasons they needed to end this.

Whut? That was quick.
I guess I'll wait till tomorrow to watch both 36 and 37. :/ The ending's going to suck because it'll either be rushed or be an open ending. Probs not going to get a season 2, unfortunately. I actually do like this anime you know.

Well there's another thread on here about the anime being ahead of the manga, that sounds like a good reason to stop it(hopefully just for a little while). I personally think the anime is okay not great, having Shinpachi as a commentator is kind of weird though. Weird place to end it, it has some potential not just being the only sports anime airing.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they're stopping it to allow the manga to catch up/surpass the anime, since it looks like the anime is very far ahead at this point. I've really enjoyed watching Area no Kishi and I'd like some closure on the series! (Since the "final" episode literally closed nothing....)

I really enjoyed Area no Kishi but it's a little sad that ep 37 is the Final. Although ep 37 is not an really closed ending, I think and I hoop the will that there will come a second season. What do you think about that guys?

With 32 volumes of the manga released, I doubt that the anime is ahead of the manga...

It is not ahead, it covered the first 18 volumes out of 32+
