I see absolutely no reason they shouldn't make a season 2, from what i hear sales are crazy good; and there is more than enough material left; so i really don't see a problem; these people revolve around the idea of making money, another season would make them exactly that, so get it done lol.

I'd say it's pretty much a preview, they wouldn't have bothered with the small clips otherwise. I mean, a sequel for it is extremely likely to happen anyway, this not just being optimism. Infact, I kinda wish there isn't going to be one, the show isn't bad enough to stop watching, but not good enough to really want to continue either.

I would have to agree with what Lanf said about the preview. If it wasn't going to happen, then why bother showing the clip in the first place? The sales are also pretty good for this, so there's no reason the producers would stop now.

Anyhow, the reason I came here in the first place was to comment on the "preview" itself. The animation for Kirisaki Daiichi/Hanamiya definitely came as a surprise for me. I always thought that the uniform was purple, same with Hanamiya's evidentially black hair. Idk, just something that struck me as odd and comment worthy. Rofl. (Seriously though; sea green uniform. Does this not bother anyone else? XD - derp I'm forever a dork.)

Akashi looked kind of awkward in the preview as well. Hm. I could ramble forever.

OTOH, some series like Kamisama Dolls all but announce a second season, and then can't deliver. I take the ending of this season to be fairly open: they're hinting at one, but if season 2 doesn't pan out it's still wrapped up pretty well anyway.

from what i heard maybe first of all an original anime plot with this character as antagonist? (Ginjo Takeshi or so) http://saru-pulver.tumblr.com/post/30643409319/simply-shine-sapphylicious

I screamed when I saw Hanamiya (even though I thought his uniform was purple? This color is weird) and then that scene with the GoM reunited before the Winter Cup. Damn teasers. They gave too much teasers already.
Now I just hope they aren't teasing us for nothing and Season 2 is in the planning. Best of the luck for Production I.G. with their two new shows this fall season!

Awful animating, generic character designs, extremely dialogue heavy scenes in the middle of games, terrible pacing, consistent use of shounen clichés and poor humour. Whilst it does create good tension and the music is good, I really don't see why everyone has been hyping this one through the roof.

I'd love to know just what it is people see in this. The show has some merits yes, but by no means does it break new ground.

Then don't watch it; trust me you aren't doing anyone favors; we can enjoy the season 2 coming perfectly fine regardless.

Am I supposed to be doing favours? I was merely stating my stance on a show after someone disagreed with me taking a balancedl one. If stating some criticism is going to be doing harm to people, then clearly they're agreeing with what I'm saying but denying it to themselves, otherwise they could easily disregard my opinion or refute it completely. I think you may have mistaken what I've said for me telling people that they shouldn't enjoy the show or a sequel, but to expect people to only see the good in it and not the bad? That's fanboyism.

Season 2 is confirmed for me too.
Why bother animating those stuffs just for a preview?
And with KnB's sales, it's really inevitable...

I'm simply saying i doubt that anyone cares about your internal issues on whether you want to watch it or not, if you do then fine; if not then like i said you aren't doing anyone favors, nobody will care either way is my point. People enjoy this series without being fanboys; you can tell that simply by reading the forums, and unlike you they don't bash it; so are you gonna call everyone a fanboy now?

I thought Akashi looked awesome... (compared with his character design in the manga, the design here had more swag....Musakibara strangely looked weird for me though...for no apparent reason...

If shit like Phi Brain is getting another season then I really hope something actually worthy of a second season like Basket will get one. This has been one of the most fun series I've come across in a while. It's pretty cliched but it uses the cliches in an interesting way because the dialogue and writing are better than your average shounen. The show isn't perfect but I have so much fun when watching that I overlook all the rather minor flaws.

I don't really care about Basketball as a sport so it doesn't bother me that the games aren't that realistic and I enjoy the silly over the top shit some of the characters can do. I also think the pacing of the show is perfect. I enjoy the dialogue and interludes throughout the game as they add to the tension and make things more exciting. The animation is good enough to get the job done and the comedy is well timed and well placed.

Overall this has become my second favorite sports anime. It's not quite as good as Hajime no Ippo but given more time it could get there.

I agree. Second season is just a must-be. It ended like Chihayafuru (for those who watched it)... ended just before another challenge came to face to.
Btw. I'm looking forward to Akashi :D The voice actor is the same as Orihara Izaya's :OOO

Clichés:
Yes it has some clichés, but the clichés are used pretty well in this anime. The mangaka didn't put it in just for fanservice's sake. There are many mangakas out there who, for example, puts in a Tsundere character just because they sells, nothing more. In KnB, those shonen clichés are given many, many differentiations. Take Midorima as an example, he's a male tsundere who believes horoscope to extreme degrees, carries weird items everywhere, does well on test and is a megane chara, plays the piano and do three pointers in-game just for recreation, adds nanodayo to his sentences, loves red bean soup to the point that he could eat it at summer. Those anime clichés may have been used more than once in many occasions in other animes, but it doesn't mean that Midorima is clichéd. When combined, it's what makes Midorima a whole new character. His interactions with other characters is unique to him and adds a whole new flavor to his already established personality. So even when you put him in a clichéd scene (like losing and crying), it still feels different than other typical characters doing it.

Animations:
It depends on the budget and studio, really. You can't expect I.G to do much better than KyoAni and Ufotable if we're talking about raw animation quality. But recently, the animations have improved by a lot, I guess good sales brings out the good animations. After all, anime is still a business. They won't use their money for something unprofitable.

So we can say the terrible animations in the middle (esp eps 16) is because of their initial budget going down, but the increase in episode 19 and upwards is because of the good sales. Thus they decided to put more money in.

Terrible Pacing:
Good tension means that the pacing is also good. Bad pacing can't bring out good tension.

Poor Humour:
While it can't compare to animes like Gintama, it's still acceptable. The comedy isn't made for people to laugh their asses off, but as a tension-reliever. Too much tension and seriousness could make a series tedious to watch, so the author have no other choices but to add some comedies. For me it's quite funny, especially the locker cleaning chapter in the manga.

Yes it deserves 2nd season. More than any animes out there.

chihayafuru is a good series and it gets a 2nd season despite its poor sales, so this one definitely gets one.

I normally don't watch sports or shounen stuff, but KnB is one of a few shounen anime which makes me wait every week.
@Lanf: doesn't matter if you don't like the show, I don't care, I pretty much enjoy it and it will get 2nd season whether you like it or not.

Oh, someone who actually is willing to debate about the show, rather than take the 'I only care about comments I agree with' approach, one which I find pretty baffling, as it is implying because I have criticism with the show, I have no right to post.

To reaffirm my position on the show, I don't hate it, I did enjoy it somewhat. However I do think there are considerably better shows out there, that too would be deserving (at least in terms of quality, perhaps not necessarily suited to) a second season.

Take One Outs for example, it's another sports anime, but not only do I feel it builds the tension much better than KnB - which is KnB's strongest point IMO, but the script in general is much smarter and the dialogue feels much more appropriate to the situation. If fans of KnB haven't seen it already, though it is about baseball, I defintely feel they should check it out.

As for the point about animation, KnB does feel low budget, lower than average infact, but Production I.G. aren't exactly a small, up and coming studio, if they're not taking things seriously, and delivering the best adaptation possible, then surely this is something we should hold against them, not defend them for?

Also, for those saying you don't care about what I am writing, that is just a foolish and rude approach. Ultimately, do you think anyone cares for what you are writing, positive or negative? Should we point this out to you all the time? If the forums were full of a comment, then a reply of' I don't care', it would be a pretty awful place. This is a forum, not a fanclub, I don't see why these things are closed to debate.

There are many conditions for a series to be allowed a 2nd season, but it all comes down to the manga, DVD, BD and merchandise sales. KnB certainly sells. 40k total at DVD and BD sales, 400k sales per manga volume, even the novel and character songs sells like hotcakes.

While I agree that there are also other animes that deserves second or third season, this series has the highest appeal to anime fans right now thus will be the best choice to animate. On the animation side, I.G has shown to us their maximum animation potential in episode 24, where the animation is undoubtedly top-notch. The result is, 94.72% have voted 5 for episode 24 (at the moment) in the episode thread.

Now, if we take into account its sales and profit, its popularity and its upcoming storyline (winter cup is even better than inter-high IMO), the potential of season 2 is very bright. Not its probability to be animated, but its potential to have higher quality.

I.G will surely put higher budget into season 2, at least higher than season one. At the very best, we could expect the epic-ness of episode 24 repeated twice or thrice throughout season 2! And that's the best part about this series getting a season 2, we could expect greater standards than season 1. Kuroko S2 will have better animation quality, better directions, and better voice acting than its S1.

That's why IMO this series deserves a 2nd season. Yes, other series also deserves 2nd season, but what about the budget? Will it be as high as Kuroko season 2? I think it wouldn't if it didn't sell well. With Kuroko, I can expect even better experience than S1. With some other random series, I could only expect same, if not slightly improved quality, at most.

On a side note, I think this is what they call synergy in anime. Fanservice => better sales => better quality 2nd season => everyone's happy => ? => Profit.

TL;DR version : One Outs may have better storyline and writing, but even if it gets its 2nd season, there won't be any guarantee that it will be better than its 1st season. Kuroko on the other hand, will have greater budget thus guaranteed better animation and overall quality than S1.

Lastly, about the animation drop in the middle of the series, I ranted and ranted for weeks back then. I wasn't defending it. But because the first and second BD and DVD sold well, I think they'll fix these scenes into shape.

^BD/DVD combined sales averages 20k-24k, not 40k. Still, it's the highest among the Spring titles(even if you discard the DVD sales which is higher than the BD sales) and second only to F/Z 2 which was projected to sell 40-50k(results on Tuesday).

It's popular because it CAN attract more than one audience as a shounen show. Same reason why Prince of Tennis was successful. I'm glad that it also has the support of Yaoi fangirls as well as it's general audience.

That plus your post is seriously pointless because of the second sentence.
Nascar is only popular because of beer drinking rednecks

Take that however you will, but I could care less about people driving in a circle so i'm not watching it. Cwutididthar?

To get people hyped in the manga? Preview for an OVA? I mean theres several other things the "preview" could be used for than just an S2...

I really hope these little "previews" really are hinting at a second season, which I would like to be in winter (Winter Cup, winter season).

My winter has already been made by the Chihayafuru 2 announcement; if KnB pans out, too, this winter will certainly be lovely ~

I'm so happy that a second season has been confirmed! But... April is so far away. ;_; It would be lovely if season 2 is longer than 2 cours!
