Fascinating video, but not completely right. Copyright law is limited in the United States by the fair use doctrine, which is a 4-point analysis:
1-the purpose and character of your use
2-the nature of the copyrighted work
3-what amount and proportion of the whole work was taken, and
4-the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work.

This is what protects most fanfictions from money hungry copyright holders, so long as they don't try to publish them because that would effect the potential market or value of the copyrighted work. Or something.

Well my opinion is that today's intellectual property laws are severely outdated.
Here are guidelines how to fix it:
a)they need to become more liberal,or more open source
b)they must prevent patent wars
