Tari Tari selling well. It's an okay anime but it defiently isn't a top selling anime imo so there has to be a reason for the high sales. |

I wouldn't consider 8.7k after two weeks for a first volume with an event ticket top selling. Figure it'll average a bit lower than HanaIro's 8.5k (maybe 7.5k). That's a solid hit, but a far cry from the Horizons or SAOs or Kurokos of late. Seems about right for a well-received show from a popular studio aiming at the fanbase of their previous popular show that sold about the same. BUY YUYUSHIKI BDS ALL DAY EVERY DAY |

And jmal, I don't agree with saying that everything is subjective. There are great, good, fine, average and bad things. Personal taste can change private rankings completely for some individuals but nonetheless we can say that x is overall better than y. I guess Another's results made me think too highly of PA Works' fanbase. Also, jmal and symbv, thanks for all the info! dtshyk too, for weekly rankings! >Rates Sword Art Online a 9 >Complains about quality. |

Progeusz said: As I thought, many people (who don't follow Stalker - it should obvious) are really surprised with TT's success. That tells something about its quality... Actually I beg to differ. It is common practice for fans in Japan (those who cared about sales figure) to make guess of how well an anime would sell before the season started or at the beginning of the series, usually before the Stalker's figure is available. I still remember even then the guesses were near 10,000. So your theory that people who don't follow Stalker should find TT's success surprising does not really stand on firm ground. Progeusz said: I guess Another's results made me think too highly of PA Works' fanbase. "Another" was hurt by a few things: 1. As someone mentioned before, the horror genre already makes it a niche market to begin with. 2. The novel itself is popular enough to get a real-life movie treatment. However many fans of the original novel disagreed strongly on the adaptation (particularly the ending) and considered it had been changed too much or the focus was wrongly placed. 3. The way it deals with character's death, particularly in its second half, was not viewed favorably by many anime fans, regardless of whether they have read the original novel. It did receive high praises from fans on its character design and background art though, which are considered the best strengths of PA Works' products. Hikarusuke said: Tari Tari selling well. The rule of thumb in anime industry is that 10,000 represents the level where a "big hit" is. And it should not be just the vol.1 sales, but the overall average for the whole series. Tari Tari has not reached that level yet. At 8000-9000 it is clearly a hit though. As for the reasons why it has good sales and is popular, I mentioned what they might be in previous week's BD sales thread. http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=489721&pages=7&show=120#msg17224219 Modified by symbv, 09-22-12, 9:55 AM |

I hate how animation studios tend to insert an anime-original ending, while the work itself is already a masterpiece. Plus, Another is a very niche anime and not all people could cope with such bloody horror. ![]() ~ IA- Aria on the Planetes ~ Vocaloid V3 voiced by LiA (Clannad Afterstory, Angel Beats! theme song singer) |

jmal said: Downgrade355 said: and if the sales keep going strong as they are right now, i wouldn't be surprised if it outsold bakemono Well that's going too far... I'm not setting expectations an inch above 40k max until within two weeks of release. I'll take another look at it then. I happened to be looking at the SAO Stalker page and remembered this exchange, and thought it provided a good example of something I've mentioned before. I assume you happened to look at Stalker and see that, at the time when you posted, the estimate was over 87,000 for Vol. 1. Now, just four days later, it's 47,000 because the first volume has dropped from the top to about ~15 at the moment. This is what I meant when I said that estimates fluctuate wildly when you're more than a month (or a couple weeks) from release like we are now. Just a nice clear example of why using the estimates can be messy. BUY YUYUSHIKI BDS ALL DAY EVERY DAY |

Stalker hugely underestimates DD (since it was popular at physical stores) so if the percentage of underestimation is the same thing time, we should be fine. But if a lot of the storefront customers switched to Amazon, not so much.... Real sales were: 3226 DVD, 6401 BD first week. DVD points are significantly below the first season, but will still rank and this has a chance of selling as well as Tari Tari if the underestimation from season one holds. In any case it shouldn't be a flop, unless buyers have moved completely over to Amazon in which case 5k or less Vol. 1. BUY YUYUSHIKI BDS ALL DAY EVERY DAY |

Continuation, new chapter, focus shift, expanded worldview are all descriptions I have seen for DD 2nd season, but not a filler. If you say it is a filler, you are saying that this 2nd season is not really necessary and the story can just continue from 1st season to a 3rd season without much problem, but that would ignore a whole new country, two new Yusha, two important ancestor characters and a few other new characters introduced in the 2nd season. Perhaps you are thinking of the grand battle in the 1st season that is very much lay dormant in the 2nd season. Since the anime staff made it clear that they intentionally shifted the focus away from hard fighting against powerful monster, I doubt any kind of grand scale adventure type of story will make it to 3rd season if one is ever made. Dog Days will sell (in terms of passing the breakeven line), but the key question is how much drop in sales will it suffer compared to 1st season. The bad jokes going around among some fans in Japan are the "Ika Milky course", a reference to the huge drop in sales for the 2nd season of Ika-musume and Milky Holmes. Both Yuru Yuri and Dog Days are identified by some fans to be the prime candidates to be a successor to the "Ika Milky course" The answer would hinge on how much of the sales of DD or YY happen on storefront because the figures as shown on Amazon are not too encouraging so far.
