This must be maybe the oldest anime I've watched in the recent years for sure. But in oldest anime while excluding Dragon Ball and Love Hina.

I must say, this anime is totally different then what I normally watch because it's old school classic anime style back in the day. In some day at least. '98. And well, it still works. It's still very greatly proportioned. But the eye-view of it is ... very new to me, maybe even unique. Its old school.
The voice acting is the natural type but still with some fun-acting because it has comedy. And the ost is also... classy?

A superb opening for a first episode! Every little twists. All the characters, her sisters, her whole character. His character and crush for her. Beautiful, can't wait to enjoy this anime. Next episode!

Anno's fingerprints are all over this show. Whether it's the camera angles, the scenery and the sound effects. Everything looks like NGE which is nice.
Even the premise kind of suits his style, even though he didn't write it.

When I saw the cover art I instantly had a good feeling about this. The constant switch between Yukino's personalities was a riot, this whole thing was hilarious. That ending was coming from a mile away but that long pause had me roaring.

I really like the art and style. Despite all of the bad things I read about it, it gives off a nice one-of-a-kind sense of old school.

Wow. This is the first time an anime romcom has amused me so. Yukino is kind of despicable, but I can't help but find it at least somewhat humorous because of the absurd extreme she's taken it to.

The pace is super fast. Most other anime would have likely taken two or three episodes to deliver that much content. The art is kinda bad at times, and the ED isn't even animated, but it works.

It's charming. I think I'll end up liking this.

I don't know if this will go very far. It looks like a childish/silly sister anime of Evangelion but at least Yukino's less emotional than Asuka.

I enjoyed this though ^^

That review saying this artwork is the worst couldn't be more wrong. I can't really say how wrong it is without writing a lot of stuff and being a pedant so I'll just leave it at that it's incredibly wrong. The energy and visual inventiveness of this episode were incredible.

I thought the same. It's kind of amazing how well Anno and Tsurumaki's talents bleed together here.

This anime is sooo Gainax. I am not sure how much the source material plays part in that but you just see Anno's handwriting in nearly every single frame and it is amazing. Loved that episode.

My god, does this look old, it's freaking Ranma.

Ok, now seriously, this anime looks pretty good. I basically know nothing about it except for the fact that Anno worked on it.

This looks really Gainaxy, it kinda looks like they were low in budget, strangely, that was something I really liked about Evangelion, we'll see how that turns out. Anyway, even with that it manages to be really funny, hope it only gets better.

Good 1st episode. Fast pacing and entertaining. I love the Yukino's character. She isn't your typical character. She's a nasty character and thinks things she'll never say because she wants to appear perfect. I think the male lead is portrayed well. I think they are trying to make it seem like successful students are boring and have no personality.

I'm kind of surprised that episode 1 pretty much tells you everything you need to know about what makes Yukino tick. I am aware that this anime is based on another person's manga, but it's a far cry from how Anno handled the main characters in NGE. I can't imagine Asuka or Misato having the same impact on me if I knew everything about their personality, backstory and motives from the outset.

That subverted the expectations I had, but then again that's probably what this director is most known for. It will be interesting to see how things develop for these characters, especially since Soichiro confessed so early in the story (often in these shows the guys are either oblivious or too timid to make a move). I can already tell there's more of a psychological edge to this compared to most rom-com anime, which does pique my interest.

I'm just hoping that one of the upcoming episodes tell us more about Soichiro. There wasn't really much to go off yet as far as his character is concerned.

This episode blew my expectations out of the water. It has been so long since I have laughed at an Anime episode, but this takes it. The humor is funny and the timing is perfect. As for the visuals, they are shaky, but I still like them aside from this issue. Really hope it stays this strong. I like the OST as well.

And daaamn, they even added the manga scene! So cool! FLCL also has one :3

I know that this will be a drama or even psychological show by look at the genres, but I didn't feel that yet from this first episode. Sure Anno was the director (I didn't expect this) and I could feel Evangelion's vibes here and there, but it is still hard to imagine what kind of drama will come about female lead for at least, she has a nice family and all. Maybe the troubles are not about her background but more about her future in relationship, kind of lke Nana I predict.

That was... CRAZY. Not at all what I was expecting, at least until I saw GAINAX appearing on the screen. Of course it gave me huge FLCL vibes, but it's far from being as chaotic.
Actually, I really liked this first episode, it reminds me of the humor of cartoons I watched as a kid, and I love the art style.
And I think I'm gonna love Yukino, she is a very pretentious and seemingly unlikable person but she is just so fun, I love her facial expressions, and she's also interesting. I'm expecting some good development from her.
However, what confuses me is how fast everything went. Practically everything I expected to happen during the show (Yukino questioning herself, Yukino realizing she's falling in love with Arima, and of course Arima finding out about her real self) occurred in this single episode. It makes me wonder what will actually happen in this show.
I'm quite hyped for now, I hope it won't disappoint me !

I'm going into this series completely blind. I've heard the English title -- His and Her Circumstances -- pop up over the years, but know nothing of it except that it probably involves a man (boy?) and a woman (girl?) and is therefore some form of romance (perhaps romcom?). It seems to have carried some weight as a "classic" so I'm looking forward to seeing what it's about. Anyway, here we go…
* Neat, it's a Gainax series. Didn't know that. Should be good?
* Girl-MC looks like anime Saoirse Ronan from Lady Bird
* Oh shit lol, I love how conceited she is. Reminds me of Teruhashi-san -- OFFU! -- from Saiki Kusuo. For some reason, I really enjoy when protagonists of either gender freely acknowledge (if only to themselves) their own narcissism. I guess I find it…kinda relatable?
* "Of course! Words of praise are my life-energy!"
* Miyazawa seems a very Emma-esque protagonist to me; I feel like I shouldn't like her, but all I want to do is root for her.
* "Watashi no IMAGE!!! "
* Wait what noooo come back, my lovely self-centered Miyazawaaaaa. What is this staggering revelation-of-self doing happening halfway through the first episode?
* WAIT WHAT was that split second confession?!??
* j/k my narcissistic heroine is back phew.
Ok, so I'm having fun with this already. I'm assuming Miyazawa's character becomes less conceited as time goes on, but for now I'm enjoying the kinda "Benign Asshole" quality she brings to the screen. There's something appealing to me about a character who owns their own shortcomings and acknowledges the strengths of others but who still isn't humble or groveling for all that. In continuing with the Emma/Jane Austen vibes I was picking up above, I can definitely see this becoming a comedy of errors. Can't wait to watch how it plays out.

I liked it but it was a little fast paced, I'm still blown away by how much was covered in that single first episode. The way Miyazawa views Arima shares a few similarities to how Asuka sees Rei, it's interesting so far. I'm really hoping Anno doesn't screw this up later on

After rejecting him, she got what she deserves. This is a great episode to start with. (I forgot this series even exist)

The irony lmao

I'm glad Muse Asia still has this in their channel! Sweet!
It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines
and ultimately destroys her character and personality; their purity tarnished because of it,
is the only thing I hope to not happen to them. For that sole purity is my fan service.

After 21 years since its debut on italian television, it was finally time to give it a chance. i was aware back then (when i had the same age of the main characters) that it was aired on Mtv Anime Night but i was tuning in mostly for Ranma 1/2 only, and clearly wasn't into the ideal mindset for a full rom-com especially during 2002... now that i'm as old as her father and appreciate to a undescrivable amount the amazing italian dub cast (especially for this show) even more than before, i can. Too bad Amazon Prime Video deleted the previews as here they were introduced by the italian voice actresses of the two little sisters (both very talented wonderful women, and finally met one of them in person in 2016).

Oooook...

I'm slightly annoyed with the female lead's obsession with popularity, but it does make her very relatable and leaves her open for character development

Yes. As a teen i would have just found her just straight-up annoying, but once again, a introduction like this seems to work fine for a pilot episode, and the rest of her family can turn out to be very entertaining. Direction, artstyle and non-stop dialogues are a very good combination, knowing the involvement of a big name affiliated with NGE was another reason to watch this. It's too soon to see if Soichiro Arima will always be the nice guy introduced for now, but to date, he seems likable. Already somehow (lightheartedly) jealous of him... if a pretty lady could karate kick me in the chest with no intention to harm i would be sooooooo happy.

Yukino is top tier. I love her to pieces. She's one of the few shoujo protags that feels genuinely complex and even a tad flawed but I find that miles relatable (I do love cuties who are pure hearted Yamato on my list).

The dub in my opinion is the best way too watch this. I have nothing against the OG voices but I think they're way too soft and subtle. Veronica Taylor alone carries the series with filling Yukino with all the emotional range that fits the animation to a T.

It's also one of the few animes I can think of that use stuff like the text editing to be funny as all hell "Commoner Food". It feels very manga based but I checked the manga and none of that is in there (neither is the comedic affect either).

Fantastic first episode. One of the few episodes I can say that knocks it out of the park especially with that ending.

This is a true romance!

It’s very psychological I wonder if hideki anno had any thing todo with the story of the anime it has that psychological effect that Neon Genesis had

A very good anime! Not really a rom com

But true romance

About meeting
Changing
Accepting change
And falling in love

I don’t care what others have to say on the animation quality lol it’s 25 years old… 90s anime with drawings and real life end credits lol

But animation is just one part

The story of this anime is very in depth with the characters their relationships and history!

If I had watched this as a teen lol I wouldn’t have liked it

But watching this an adult in my 30s

I appreciate it alot

It’s not maid sama was more comedic…..

This is more adult like… and can be serious and more in-depth of the characters and their backstories and the romance and the way they get to know each other

From wearing fake masks in the beginning…

It’s more psychological complex

Than maid sama…..

In maid sama as I recalled they don’t even go out until the end….
