I've never seen the digimon show personally, but from an outside perspective it seemed really interesting. Seven chosen children sent with their monster partners to save another world sounds pretty damn wicked IMO. However, a friend of mine who watched it said it was rather childish. I just wanted to know, as an adult, is it still worth watching? Or would I just find it kiddy and boring?

Digimon is the epitome of my childhood. The other shows couldn't compare. But I'm not sure what I'd think today, sorry.

It's not any more childish than your average shonen title.
I definitely have superpowers. I can feel it in my balls.

As an adult, I highly doubt you'll get much out of it other than maybe some mindless fun. If you are going to watch it though, I think Tamers is agreed to be the best.

Although Tamers is a better one, I think it's better to begin from the very beginning, Digimon Adventure in other words.

I loved Digimon as a kid, if I were to watch it again now I'd probably still enjoy it for the nostalgia it brings.

Unless you watch the shitty American dub, you should be fine. The show isn't much different than your average shounen title.

I watched like a couple episodes as a kid and didn't remember anything when I got older. But I actually tried watching it as an adult and I didn't like it. There were fights between the kids every episode about how they didn't understand each others feelings, and a new big final boss was introduced every 10 episodes.

Really childish story, and fights.

“Childish” or not, I enjoyed quite a lot when I was 15/16!
I’m talking more particularly about “Digimon adventure 01 & 02” because I didn’t enjoy the other seasons.

I hardly remember the story since it’s passed more than 10 years but I remember that I liked the whole story. It was really worth my time and who knows I’ll see the show one day again. So, I personally don't even care to think if it is “childish” since I enjoyed it myself. Plus, childish doesn’t have to necessarily boring. :)

I'm currently re-watching it myself, this time in Japanese though, and it's like I'm reliving my childhood. It's blatantly obvious by the visuals that it's a '98 anime but its content makes up for that. Simple yet magnificent, so to speak.

It made up my childhood.

It does start out somewhat childish, what with th bright colours and the whole idea of "LOVE CONQUERING ALL" and all that jazz, but it quickly becomes really dark.

I never got the time to watch the sub version but I watched it mornings during my childhood (so damn nostalgic). I guess it is considered childish but was quite enjoyable for me. I think this was actually my favorite series from the franchise compared to some other seasons. The fights were predictable though and not exactly top notch. Still, I got bits of entertainment from it.

It's worth watching, but be warned it is childish as it is geared towards kids. (it's still definitely worth watching)

actually you can say it's childish, based on what the age of those characters at. But if you see the perspective that they're still fresh kids, often doing childish things just bcos of their age for some reasonable thing, then you can't easily say it's childish bcos they show how realistic those characters behave on something they faced on their age. Moreover, by seeing the situation of their family (being adopted, divorced parents, etc), it's something hard to face for kids like their ages, they must face the reality of that situation, and it's not something easy to get adapted. I think it's a childish yet mature show at the same time, human-character based.

It is indeed kid-targeted but it's treatment is not as childish as Pokemon or Doraemon. Plenty of times it tackles many situations and character interactions in a very mature way.

All these years and not one person asked what "childish" is. lol Such a subjective word; is it childish simply because it has kids? Isn't dark or gory or grim? Is bright and colorful? Doesn't have tits or romance or super complex moral situations?

Yet Digimon Adventure (jpn) deals with plenty of mature themes underneath the upbeat, colorful friendship themes. Divorce, feeling of uselessness, feeling of having no freedom to do what you want with your life, trauma, orphan, sense of belonging, wanting to seen less like a baby/to be strong, spoiled attitudes, sense of responsibility, death...

Maybe one can say the dub is childish due to how they dumb down everything and made it silly. But the original... not so much.

Digimon has pretty dark themes for a "children" cartoon. Both the games and anime delve into dark and gritty themes, so I would say it isn't childish. The digimon designs are really cool and interesting and makes watching the show real fun

It's hilarious to see all the mental gymnastics going here, ffs people, Digimon is a kids show, no it's not the same as shounen series, it's literally marketed for kids, not teens, just like Pokemon, but both can be enjoyed by teenagers and even adults due to having a bigger range of themes, there's nothing wrong with saying it's a kids show.
