The only idol anime I watched was, AKB0048, and that was such a let down for me.
I'll give this one a shot.
Hoping to hear some good voices.

All of the main cast will be rookie seiyus selected by audition.

They should do stuff like this more often. Keeps things more interesting.

But why another idol anime? :S

Idol aniome from the director and scriptwriter that brought us the classic of how to eat a chocolate cornet?

Pass. Looking forward to the DRAMA when it flops, though.

So it's an anime with idols, but I don't think expectations should be anything like iM@S.

It takes place in the Tohoku region, it's going to be about the 2011 earthquake. It's going to play up the tragedy really high. Up to 11 maybe.

Why?

It's Yamakan. Whether you love or hate the guy, for good or bad, he's going to try. In his words, he's going to "save anime".

I'm out worst 1st episode in the history of anime couldn't even get through it.

I couldn't even get to the halfway point in that episode.

He also did Black Rock Shooter, which was very unsatisfying.
The only good thing I found out was that he worked for Kyoani, and did the Haruhi dance sequence.

Someone care to explain to me, how exactly this guy is saving anime?

It's sarcasm. He has a very high opinion of himself, which tends to invite ridicule when he fails.

That makes more sense then.

I enjoyed Lucky Star but it looks like most of his shows are failures.

This anime needs some Yui Ogura love and she can bring Kaori with her too.

Now that I think about it 2013 will have a big idol anime rivalry, AKB0048, Love Live, and this

iDOLM@STER started the whole idol thing on anime last year, that's not counting those children anime. iM@S was great, but I didn't even bother watching others because I wasn't expecting much of them.

Director: Yamamoto Yutaka

Yutakan Yamakan? No, don't let him direct anything. Even if I haven't seen any of his shows I can already tell things like Fractale are shit.

Finally we have a key visual for this !!

I wonder how far the audition for "real idols" for the cast has gone by now...

So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

This one got a lot of publicity because 1) it is the first major project by Yamakan after the debacle of Fractale (Seiyuu etc are more like small projects) 2) It promises to find new real life idols by audition and cast them in the anime, and the idol group thus formed will perform in live action concerts as well. So it further blurs the 2D and 3D as well as idol and anime, even more than IdolMaster, Love Live and AKB0048. I am really interested in what could come out of this ambitious project from the (in)famous Yamakan.

Where is he called Savior of Anime?? All I know is his outspokenness about the anime industry and some of his views somehow found its way to some of the western fans who hold a particular critical view of the Japanese industry and its direction, and they found his views (some, not all) useful to support their criticism (even though a lot of his views may not be looked favorably by them). I guess it is those people who come up with this nickname?

All over the internet. In the vast majority of cases, it's a joke about his own highly inflated opinion of himself, not actual praise.
I reckon you meant all over English speaking part of the internet, as I never see such nickname used in Japanese speaking part of the internet, for one, though his "highly inflated opinion of himself" is widely known there too.

Wasn't it around before or during the airing of Fractale that he said that it will be the show that will save the anime industry?
I didn't watch Fractale but I remember people joking about that. I'm also aware it sold very poorly and people(mostly Westerns I guess) were joking that he did save anime with those poor sales and that he's the hero that the industry deserves or some shit like that.

I just went back and checked what he said when he made Fractale. He never said "save the anime industry". He only said that he was losing faith in anime but he still wanted to make anime "this one last time" to prove that the world of anime was not as bad as he thought, and he would "retire" if he failed in this "one last attempt". Of course we know what happened to Fractale and whether he kept his words of retiring if Fractale should fail....

I will forgive so much of Yamakan's history of asshattery if he gives us a half-decent idol anime without CG dancing.

I can see most of the anime itself being at least decent.

But yeah CG is a hit or miss (Love Live had quite a bit of CG quality fluctuation), so it should be good if it ends up like Idolm@ster and having all 2D dancing.
